great article on alex wiegand.  pretty much unheralded, but one of the most solid guys in the sliac over the last four years and the absolute epitome of the D3 experience.

^^^ Yes, that is a great article. Well deserved recognition.

It's Gameday!!!  Best of luck to all the teams as the tournament picture clears.  I'm pulling for a classic between Webster and GU.

But mostly to all of the seniors who will lace 'em up for the last meaningful time today, please know that your soon to be felt deep gnawing anxious pain the comes with the end of your decade plus (often personality defining) basketball career will ultimately subside.  It may take awhile, but it will subside.  Find a few extra moments today to soak in your team, coaches and the overall experience and then leave everything you have on the floor!

The family in front of me has never watched a SLIAC game before. Read about in the Post Dispatch.

Enrique Tankins is having a game and this Webster team has depth.

how about those red devils???  thanks, highlanders!

ec absolutely pummels iowa wes on senior day.  hank thomas looking like steph curry goes off for 37 on 9-12 from 3.  clicking on all cylinders and dangerous going into the sliac tourney.

gu vs. ec?? really??? you won't find a more entertaining game anywhere in the country.

One of the guys in front of me wondered if Greenville would score 150 points today. I assured him they wouldn't. I was right. Webster defense was super -- lots of steals, especially early in the game -- and really took advantage of the weaknesses in The System. Went out to a healthy (+/- 20 point early lead) and up by 14 at the half. Closest GU got in the second half was 8 or 9 I think. Well done Gorloks.

OK, I just have to say, that Webster-Greenville game was incredible.

There was Etienne who finished with 40 points.  The crowd wanted 40 and he gave it to them with a big smile.  Then there was Wilcox who finished with 19 rebounds to go along with 25 points.  Both were brilliant!

For my money though, the player of the game was Tankins who stood tall against those double teams for 27 minutes and finished with a mere three turnovers.  Tankins needed one rebound to get the triple double, finishing with 18 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds.  He is so much fun to watch.

This was certainly a TEAM effort though and if you are a Webster fan, you got to be thrilled by the play of guys like Elijah Macias, Jordan Clay and Ethan Hughes.  Obviously Johnson and Hopp and so on...

I am absolutely sure that I have never seen so many dunks in a Division III game.  I am not sure that I have ever seen so many dunks.

Honestly, both teams put on a show.

^^^ I couldn't agree more with that assessment (+1K), especially the part about Tankins. He also had several amazing "take it to the hoop" efforts zig zagging past defenders for layups.

Also, looks like the SLIAC tournament pairings are set with Webster as the #1 seed, GU #2, EC #3 and BC#4: https://www.sliac.org/sports/mbkb/2018-19/tournament

Anyone of those teams can win it.

I had told Yjack this morning that due to social commitments made for me by my dear sweet wife, I would miss viewing this afternoon's games... waited until home tonight to see results....

Definitely a fun final four... Eureka -Greenville should be incredible, look for 300 points combined, then a chess match between Webster and Blackburn..

Kudos to Mac and Fontbonne for generating the shockwaves through the tiebreaker system... feeling bad for Westmin/Spalding, but what a terrific way to end the regular season... Can't wait for the semis....
And great writeup by Woooooopiffff...I can just picture Tankins RELATIVELY calmly looking down the court and finding the open man consistently... Gville's last two losses have come against a big guard Tankins, Dehm.. who can see over the double teams and get the ball down the court beyond the pressure....

Happy camper tonight....

Hopefan All Conference to be released after Monday night's Webster-Principia game.... and let me tell you, like it or not, although the results of the Webster-Prin game are meaningless to the alignment of the conference tourney, the individual results of this final game are critical to the placement of 6 different players on hopefan's All Conference 1st/2nd/3rd and HM teams.....

I took my son Mitch to the game today, to watch Greenville's System in person.  Very entertaining and interesting game to watch.

I could see where opponents could feel like they were being chased by a snowball rolling downhill, and if they don't have the ability to deal with Greenville's press, that snowball eventually runs you over and swallows you up.

But, if you are Webster and have talented players that can routinely break the press and play tight defense, you have a great chance to have a dunkfest to enjoy.  I can't remember a glaring moment when Webster coughed up the ball to Greenville's press.  If there were some, they could be counted by the fingers of one hand.  The Gorloks were exceptional in defusing the press, and blowing up Greenville's basket with acrobatic dunks.  The Webster defense didn't allow many easy and open looks, forcing Greenville to use up valuable time to re-position themselves for shots.

For much of the first half, Greenville was shooting around 25% overall.  That, plus the flawless handling of Greenville's press, allowed Webster to gain an early cushion that it wouldn't give up.  A virtuoso performance by the Gorloks!

So, she owes you right?  :)

Hey, I do not expect you to drive up from Florida for a weekend of basketball, but if there is any chance, remember that you can get in four games as Washington University hosts Chicago at 3:00 pm.

A correction to my post from yesterday: the recap of the game credits Tankins with 12 rebounds and the second ever Webster triple-double.  Notably, this is the first against an NCAA opponent, so remarkable.

Wilcox also broke the Webster record for double-doubles which is also remarkable.  Dude is a sophomore.
