I was surprised to see that someone in the SLIAC other than Greenville played yesterday... Iowa Wesleyan took the court vs Cornell College..

Bad news is IWU got trounced 75-51

Good news is that the 5 starters for Iowa Wesleyan (Fernandez, Dentlinger,Cresswell, Tjaden, Saintolien) all played significant minutes last year... I was curious as to retainage in the conference for this season...In Iowa Wesleyan's case, only one significant expected to return underclassman did not play last night, Alberto Torres Munico (8.4 ppg)...  Hoping the other SLIAC teams show those kinds of numbers when conference games are expected to start in late February.

My local college down here in Florida, Eckerd, a member of the NCAA D2  Sunshine State Conference, has announced they will not be playing Basketball this season...  It appears that the rest of the conference is going to compete in a similar manner as the SLIAC, with an abbreviated conference schedule and a conference Tourney not leading to a spot in the D2 NCAA Tourney.... I'm still looking forward to SLIAC hoops on the internet, IF the school administrators feel it is safe for all those involved in the programs....   PERSONALLY. I agree with the road Eckerd has chosen.....

I joked about Washington University basketball scheduling home and away games with Greenville, but then noticed recently that both schools have games scheduled in Men's and Women's soccer.

Both home and away.

I have to think that those are a go.  Let the games begin!

GU1999

GU v. WashU and a day night double header.  WashU hosts first game.  Dr. Barber has the guy run home just for fun. Then they play game #2.

Washington University did compete in swimming today, so maybe we do get a few soccer games.  Maybe we get those football games that are on the CCIW schedule.  Maybe we get a basketball game or two against a Fontbonne, Greenville or Webster (and maybe a DePauw, Illinois College, Knox, Rose-Hulman...Finlandia...)

Fontbonne added a home and away against Illinois College beginning next week.

Iowa Wesleyan played Finlandia today and won 94-65.

Westminster Women's Basketball is scheduled to play Illinois College as well.

Schools are looking to play.

WUPHF

The SLIAC coaches poll has been published and lo and behold, Fontbonne was picked No. 1.

I like Fontbonne at No. 1 but in my opinion, this race is wide open.

Fontbonne plays Illinois College tonight, but no broadcast as usual and again at Illinois College on Friday.

Fontbonne
Westminster
Greenville (tied)
Webster (tied)
Blackburn
Eureka
Iowa Wesleyan
Spalding

The release includes a nice breakdown of each team: https://spark.adobe.com/page/icTDoasiNUWSe/

Fontbonne led by as many as 17 including a 10 point lead at the half, but the Blueboys eventually tied the game with 8 minutes left and won the second half and the game.

The Griffins probably would have won had they shot something better than 50% from the line or if they had more possessions go through Elijah Rice who scored 25 points and Anthony Jones.

Amazing how good they looked for the first 15 minutes, and how dreadful they looked the last 25... the words bland, flat, directionless come to mind

Fontbonne needs a new coaching staff.  I am sorry.

Also, call me old fashioned, but coaches should not allow their bench to do the constant get-up, get-up refrain when the opposing team has the ball.

I am all for an engaged bench and even more for an engaged crowd, but, well...

Poor sportsmanship.

WUPFFFF   Exactly what I've been thinking for several years but did not want to say... ( I let my post imply exactly that... especially the word "directionless")... I know the coach is good buddies with other coaches in the conference whom I 100% admire, but his totally negative demeanor on the sidelines is .... ahhhh, I'm far away, I'll stop.... Anyway +karma to you ( I saw you riled up the MIAA room ::)

I was actually coming to this page to post, but got involved with WUPIFFFF's statement

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the Eureka-IWU came yesterday... It brought back a back home comfort to this old guy that I haven't experienced in a year.... good to see the coaches looking healthy, role players from last year stepping up to be leaders this year, and the fun of watching the usual VERY Competitive SLIAC game.... I'll enjoy every day of our very short, but hopefully safe, season....
