I am glad it sounds like Webster recruited well, because their non-con schedule looks tough.  Webster always does a good job testing themselves leading into the SLIAC season.  This schedule will do just that.

11/9 @ Illinois College - Blue boys maybe the easiest game in the non-con
11/12 @ Mo Bap - Webster is 0 and 4 all time v. Mo. Bap.  They lost by 21 in 2018 and had a very good showing in 2019 when they went to OT.
11/16 home v. WashU - all time 3 and 24.  but split the last two.  Winning by 8 in 2018 and losing by 22 in 2019.
11/19 home v. U of Dallas - UofD has struggled the last few years.
11/20 home v. Centre - Centre went 3-5 last year, but was 24-5 in 19/20 and qualified for NCAAs
11/23 @ WashU - a home and home with WashU.
11/27 @ Columbia (Exhibition) - A good NAIA team that was 20-12 in the AMC in 19/20
12/4 @SEMO (Exhibition) - SEMO finished 7th in the OVC last year.  A tough d1 opponent for any d3 school
12/6 Baptist Bible @ Webster - I have not idea.  But, the do play Fontbonne two days earlier so we may know more then.
12/8 @ Missouri S&T - a d2 school which struggles at their level.  Could be a chance for a really nice outcome.
12/18 home v. Carthage - I think that this could be a very good Carthage team.  They split with NC and Elmhurst last year.   Fil Bulatovic has a chance to be the CCIW MOP
12/30 home v. Rose Hulman - RH was 10-2 last year.   This will be a very tough d3 match up.
12/31 home v. Monmouth.

I think we talked about this earlier, but the Webster schedule is very impressive for a number of reasons including the fact that they only leave St. Louis one time to play a Division III opponent.

Also, Webster hosts Westminster in the Webster Classic and Fontbonne in the Big Bend Classic.

Westminster plays in a Fontbonne tournament as well.

Lots of non-conference games involving SLIAC teams being played in St. Louis this season.

I'm completely lost here. You say Webster hosts Westminster in the Webster classic and then Fontbonne in the Big Bend Classic. After that you say there's a lot of NC games involving SLIAC teams being played in the St. Louis area. That leads me to believe they are playing conference opponents as non- conference games as well.

But, as stated by GU1999 and the Webster page, Webster hosts U. of Dallas and Centre in the Webster Classic and then Rose-Hulman and Monmouth in the Big Bend Classic. I'm guessing Westminster and Fontbonne are the 4th teams?

EDIT: checked their schedules. Makes sense now. I was totally confused. LOL

Blackburn's non-con:

Nov 5 vs. Millikin
Nov. 8 at Wis.-Platteville
Nov. 9 at Dubuque
Nov. 12 at Central (Iowa)
Nov. 13 v. IC or Dominican (at Central)
Nov. 17 at Millikin
Nov. 20 vs Washington (Mo.)
Dec. 11 vs. Loras
Dec. 18 vs. Transy
Dec. 19 v. Monmouth
Dec. 22 v. Asbury

This is also a very challenging schedule.  Good for Blackburn.  Also, good for Blackburn to get 6 non-con games at the "World Famous Beaver Dome".  The folks in Carlinville will be treated to  some really nice teams coming into town.

GU has left St. Louis and is on a layover in Denver.  First time flying for a number of the players.  What a great way to start the season with a big teambuilding trip to the west coast.

Greenville's two opponents on the trip are Whitworth and Pacific.

In 2020-1:
Whitworth was 12 - 5
Pacific was 4 - 8

Players I look forward to seeing suit it up for the first time as Panthers:

Cam Irvin (jr.), who played at Morgan Park in Chicago.  Played for Mac Irvin Fire and is the grandson of ... Chicago legend Mac Irvin.
Here is a fun story about Cam leading Morgan Park to the Public League Red-South title against Simeon.  Side note, his Chicago basketball legend in the making teammate Ayo  Dosunmu has the following to say about him.  "I trust Cam so much," Dosunmu said. "I was just trying to kick it out to him. He was hitting big shots."  Needless to say, I am looking forward to seeing Cam play for my panthers. https://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/daily-southtown/sports/ct-sta-boys-basketball-morgan-park-simeon-st-0125-20170124-story.html  film -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz3Qr7NFfGI

Everett Campbell 6'1" (jr.), from California who most recently played for Fulsom Lake JC.  This kid is a rocket.  And he shot 43% from 3 last season on 79 attempts.  Coach Patton may be calling on this guy in the Spring.  film - http://www.hudl.com/video/3/3616299/5e1d7aa8d469351360eeb19d

LJ Lampley, 6' 5"(jr), Lincoln Way East.  Big school. Looks like a big wing, but could slide into the ball cover or back man in the press.  I see him filling a roll on one of the top two shifts.  Great hoops family.  Dad is also a hoop legend in the city who played at DePaul for elder and jr. Meyer and was drafted by the Sonics in the 2nd round.

Skinner bros. - Don't know much about these guys other than they played at Malcom X after having good careers at Willowbrook.  Video below of Diyahvion looks really good.

Darryl, 6'4" (jr)

Diyahvion , 6' 2"  Nice film.  Athletic.  Smooth with the ball.  Big guard.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zgCalObBLg

Dom Redding, 6'1" (fr.) Evansville North
film - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj2qRHasVzk  Looks to me like a young Henry Johnson (sr.).

Should be a very good non conference set of tests for Greenville and I will get to see a pair of them when they come to Georgetown, KY for the Jim Reid Classic November 26th and 27th. Looking forward to it.

SLIAC teams go 0-3 on opening night. GU loses at #19 Whitworth. Blacburn falls at home to Millikin, trailing most of the game but making it really close at the end. Eureka loses to Cornell also at home -- kind of like the Blackburn game, trailing most of the way but getting close before Cornell sttetched its lead late.

Off-topic but Webster finished off the weekend with a PK win over Spaulding in the SLIAC men's soccer tournament to win both the regular season and conference tournament. The Gorloks went 19-1-1 with no losses in league play.

This team is a threat to get a tournament win or two next weekend.

^^^The official record is 18-1-2. The final 2-2 score vs Spalding yesterday after 2 OTs is recorded as a draw in the W/L/D stats. The one loss was to Wash U 3-1 on 9/7 in Webster's 3rd game of the season. Sure hope the NCAA doesn't pair the Bears and Gorloks in the first round of the tournament, though they could be in the same opening pod.

GU1999

GU loses both in Washington by large margins.

Losses were by 36 against #19 Whitworth and by 30 against Pacific.  GU scored 117.5/g and gave up 150.5.  Whitworth went on to beat Redlands and Pacific lost to Redlands later in the Tip Off Classic.  The combined scores of both of those bakes was below the the winning team score from the GU games. :)

Whitworth was methodical in breaking the press and finishing.  Pacific pressed back, took a bunch of threes and seemed very comfortable with the pace.   Two very different approaches which were equally effective.

GU looked to be in the all or nothing press a lot in both games.  With all of the new kids, I sometimes wonder if the first few games Dr. Barber plays that particular press more just to get the new kids acclimated to the effort he wants them to exert.  It is also a huge adjustment to being the back man in this press and learning when to read pass and try to steal and when to rim protect.  The team needs two guys  who adjust to that roll.

Panthers were led in scoring by Kenneth Cooley (sr) 17.5 p/g, Cam Irvin (jr) 20.5 p/g, Everett Campbell (jr) 16.5 p/g, Romello Ball (jr.) 13.5 p/g, Darryl Skinner (jr) 12 p/g lead the way.  Jarred Johnson (jr) and Diyahvion Skinner (jr) also contributed as all above averaged 9 or more shots in the two games.  Henry Johnson and LJ Lampley do not appear to have made the trip.

GU1999

While we are talking about other SLIAC sports on the hoops board, GU's undefeated in the SLIAC volleyball team, who was 24-6 overall, drew sectional host and current AVCA #10 UW-Eau Claire in the NCAAs.  This will be a rematch of the October 2 match in Chicago which went to 5 sets, GU finally succumbing in the 5th (15-11).

Oh right. 18-1-2.  Webster was matched up with UChicago at Otterbein.  I am glad the NCAA committees work to separate cross-town teams.

Very cool to see Greenville going undefeated in SLIAC volleyball.

Also, Blackburn plays Platteville tonight and Dubuque next week.  Not to mention, Washington University in two weeks.  Bravo to the Beavers for scheduling tough.

The league is scheduling like a league that wants to get better in the long run.  Not many STL Christians, or STLCOPs, etc these day.
