I find it so hard not to root for Prin.. they've been down for so long.... I loved going up to Elsah for Prin games....a beautiful ride, a beautiful campus...

You sold me on Principia a long time ago.

Also, here is the last minute of the game and that buzzer beater: https://youtu.be/Yyud8tQ06v8?t=6600

Principia defeated Westminster on one of the more unlikely buzzer beater shots I have seen.  I hope it gets out on Twitter as it was definitely Sports Center worthy...

Just watched that on a lark (actually watched it on internet). Really a great shot. Sometimes it's better to be lucky.

There is definitely a gap on the clock time at 0.0 and the buzzer/light up the backboard.... I hit a perfect freeze frame at 0.0 on the clock and the ball is clearly still in the hands of Jake Kampf  However, the ball is definitely gone prior to the buzzer, and that's what counts.

That shot may get me kicked out of our Florida condo... I let out a shout that could have awakened any number of neighbors... Mrs. hopefan was not pleased... think I'll watch TV for awhile before sneaking into bed....

Something to follow over the season:

Westminster Coach Matt Mitchell has 293 career wins as the head coach of the Jays.... only 7 more needed to hit 300!!!!!
Greenville Coach George Barber has 288 career wins as the head coach of the Panthers.... only 12 more needed to hit 300!!!!!
Webster Coach Chris Bunch has 287 career wins as the head coach of the Gorlocks.... only 13 more needed to hit 300!!!!!

Not inconceivable that all 3 could hit the milestone this season, but it will be very tough...

Well, unfortunately, our 3 veteran coaches are having rough seasons... Reaching 300 wins this season seemed possible, almost probable, for each of the 3, but as the season progresses, all 3 see their teams struggling.

Westminster, coached by Matt Mitchell, has 4 wins this season, bringing his total to 297.... with 10, maybe 11 regular season games remaining, Coach Mitchell appears to be in good shape for No 300... BUT... No wins in the SLIAC are sure things this season.. incredible parody....and I can't think the Westmin coaching staff is pleased with the level of their team's play.

Greenville and Coach George Barber have only one win this season, giving Coach Barber 289 wins to date.... covid, injuries, and anything else aside, there is no way Greenville will get 11 more wins this season... this group simply isn't using the system to panic opponents as they have in the past....they aren't converting turnovers to points, and are giving up a ridiculous amount of uncontested shots to their opponents.

Webster and Coach Chris Bunch have 4 wins this season, pushing Coach to 291 career wins.  This team has been an enigma to me, showing lots of athleticism, but lack of discipline and floor leadership has led to far too many losses... unless they can make a drastic turnaround (and I'd imagine Coach Bunch has already tried anything and everything). I can't see this group coming anywhere near 9 more wins this season.

I appreciate you guys keeping us up on what's happening in the SLIAC. I checked in on Webster at Eureka last night. Wasn't looking promising for the Gorloks early in the 2nd half and I had other things to attend to. Eureka, with Milsteadt and Dorethy, has to be one of the favorites along with Fontbonne. Are we going to get the hopefan standings this season? That was a wild shot at the Westmin/Prin game. Thanks, WUPHF, for posting the clip.

This is a weird and fascinating scenario. Thanks for sharing it, hopefan.

Don't quit on ANY SLIAC game... Fontbonne down 20 at half to Blackburn, and yes I quit watching... I read this morning Fontbonne comes all the way back in a mere 12 minutes to take the lead... back and forth, Blackburn down 1 in last seconds, wins it off a nifty pass that leads to a dunk at the buzzer... the video is out there on D3 hoops....

Had to go check that play out.  Here is the link: https://youtu.be/lkY3FSODy98?t=7261

The student broadcaster who was on the call did a nice job on that.

Deja vous.   Jake Kampf hits another long 3 pointer at the buzzer for Prin...( Kampf made the miracle half court shot to beat Westminster two nights ago) unfortunately this one only served to cut the margin of defeat from 8 to 5

It really was a nice call.

And that Greg Sager compliment may be what he leads with at a job interview.  "Hello sir, here is my tape and have you heard the nice things Greg Sager has been saying about me..."

Well... a story that has to be told.... and it needs to be told.... because you rarely if ever see it happen with a game ending impact....

A grievous error by the Webster Coaching staff... (and I have all the respect in the world for HC Chris Bunch and always will)... cost Webster the game on Saturday afternoon.

The game Webster vs Prin is tied, Webster turns it over under their basket with 4 seconds showing on the clock..  Prin will need to come full court for a winning shot attempt..... a time out is called, and Webster subs in Freshman Johann Bennett, a 6'8" frosh, obviously to guard the ball out of bounds to prevent a long inbound pass...Bennett had not been in the game prior...

BUT... Bennett's name and number was not in the scorebook... I'm assuming the official scorebook, which again I'm assuming is the home team's scorebook....in this case Webster's scorebook...

I was informed that the usual procedure is that the coaches sign off on the scorebook minutes prior to the opening tip... and again assume it is the head coach that signs off.  But I do wonder what the procedure is for getting those names into the book correctly... Is it the head coach, or is he just signing off on someone else's work assuming it was done correctly?   Perhaps an assistant?  Even a student assistant?  (ie.."hey Joey, everyone is dressed tonight, copy last game, dont forget Bennett"...)   who knows?     CCIW readers, how does it work for your team?

Anyway, its a one shot Tech, Prin makes it, then gets fouled immediately, makes 2, and wins by 3.

TOUGH way to lose a game....
