fcnews, I was looking back trying to locate a post you made that mentioned a Fontbonne student who had been Player of the Year in the same year in two sports in the SLIAC. Couldn't find the post. Am I remembering wrong?

Anyway, I learned redently that Jeff Reis of Webster was SLIAC POY in soccer in 1999 and SLIAC POY in basketball in 1999-2000. Those aren't the same calendar year, if you assume the basketball honor was received in 2000, but they are the same academic year. Does that count?

fcnews

Y-Jack - It was Amy Hauschild. She is the only female two sport POY. Volleyball and Basketball same school year.

Yeppers.  Pride is here.  Sorry about tonight.  I am in charge of intramural basketball.  I'm also an official.  So, I was geared up to officiate and didnt have my phone on me.  I seen you'd called.  Sorry.

Maryville may not have shot well from three land, but neither did Greenville.  It was an ugly game tonight.  Let's not think that this is like Bob Sanders coming back for Indy and the defense being a ton better.  We had some bone head mistakes.  Starting five started the game turning the ball over on four straight possessions.  Bench came in and played well for 10 minutes and then the starters came back and played okay.  Greenville's lead was as big as ten.  Not sure Maryville had a lead and if they did, it was small.

Need to strap up becase playing at Prin is no easy task for Greenville.  We'll see what Saturday holds!!!

An ultimate D3fan  -  I just turned down primo tickets for the Billikin George Washington game tomorrow  -  I'm D3 Hoopin'!!!!!!!

I was pretty much decided on going to Eureka - Maryville tomorrow until I saw the Maryville box score from last night  -  4 for 24 from 3's  is just not very fan friendly   -   Fulton, Mo  here I come  -  Godfather, look for me - always fun to meet fellow posters!   FC, Eureka SID, Yjak, let's exchange scores  -  Mac Attack, will see you there!!

The Westmin -  Mac game should be good - wish Davis could maintain intensity level - geez he looks good some times, but obviously gets lost or lets down, because he earns alot of bench time.  If he played as hard as his sub, Keushel (spelling?), he'd be a first team all conf and Westminster would be challenging for the conference lead.
As it is, two quick teams both good shooting perimeter teams- West needs to watch out if Mac puts the pressure defense on- sorry Mac Attack, I'll be quietly pulling for Westmin in hopes that the standings stay tight.
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Mac Attack

hopefan - I hope we can make the trip. Right now all systems are go, but several balls in the air on the home front.

I have a better idea - quiety cheer for both teams! It's still going to be tight, regardless of the outcome.

Looking at the schedule down the stretch, it looks to me like Fontbonne and MacMurray have the most favorable schedules, in terms of who they play and/or where they play. Highlanders certainly have their hands full, but at least most of their remaining games are at home. Westminster has a rough schedule ahead, in terms of tough games on the road. Greenville, Webster, and Eureka is kind of a mixed bag. And Blackburn will pop someone, we all know that. And will LCC strike again?

Should be fun (I hope)....

fcnews, I just found your "two sport POY" post on the women's side. Couldn't remember where I'd seen it. Do you know if any other men have been POY in two sports in the same school year?

y_jack_lok

hopefan, great decision to reject the Billikens tickets. Who wants to see costumed characters racing up an down the court hawking hamburgers and cell phones during media timeouts. D1 teams get a total of 8 more timeouts per game than D3 teams just so the schools can rake in some ad revenue.

fcnews

Y_Jack - As far as I know Jeff is the only one on the mens side.

Good News - Coach McKinney's surgery was successful. Thanks for all the prayers. Looks like the chances are good he'll be on the sidelines for tommorrows BC game. He may not remember it. But, it should give the kids a big lift.

Nothing personal to WC but I'll be rooting for MC. A little seperation would let FU roll the dice and take their chances at a title run. FU has to get by BC first.

With a win tommorrow FU has a chance to go to WC with an oppurtunity to pull down major tiebreakers against WC.

Mac Attack

Some stats from last night's Mac vs. Principa game...

MacMurray
Compton - 24 pts (22 in 1st half), 6 reb, 3 asst, 2 stls (his best game of the year)
Coleman - 13 pts (2-3 3pt)
Greene - 12 pts (6-7 ft), 8 reb, 3 asst
Robertson - 11 pts, 8 reb, 4 asst, 3 stls
Whalum - 6 pts, 2 assts, 3 stls

Compton single-handedly carried Mac the first half - never seen him play better. What a shot in the arm it would be if he were to come on strong down the stretch. He's been battling severe ankle sprains most of the season. If he's 100%, MacMurray will be even tougher. Freshman Adam Polston had 10 points off the bench, including 2-3 3pt. Player to watch down the road.

Johnson had a nice game for Principia with 13 pts, 8 reb, and 8 assts. Principia had 21 turnovers, MacMurray had 10. Panthers were 9-15 from the line, Highlanders 23-31. There's your ballgame.

C-111087

Man, I saw the Maryville-Greenville game, and the same thing came to my mind the last time they played. Why does the Greenville coach keep finding ways to almost blow the game? Last time, he put reserves in who had not played the entire game at crucial moments. He did this once again, and it nearly cost the team the game once again. Thanks to some clutch shots by Antonio Conquest, Christopher Simmons, and La'Phonso Ellis, the panthers were able to pull off a much needed and well-earned victory against the Saints.

pantherpride06

Wow. C-111087 throwing a small punch in the gut at Coach Barber.  I'd say that I am in somewhat of an agreement with the rotating of the guys.  Not to smart to put in cold players late down the stretch, but they won it at Maryville and won it in Greenville.  Groves, one of those bench guys, came in and did hit a clutch shot down the stretch.

KEYS FOR GREENVILLE:  The Panthers scored 72 Thursday night, 5 short of what they are averaging and 11 short of the PPG total of the 6-GM Streak.  They need to either get the scoring back up or play conservative basketball.  Conquest & Ellis are great players and Ellis (freshman) will be a great leader on this team in the future, but those two have carried the team through this rough stretch of 5 losses with 19 and 17 per game.  Simmons, Hensold, and Taylor have been a little too quiet for my liking.  Again, Principia isn't an easy place for us to win but I'm glad Prin is who we are playing.  It'd give us another stepping stone going into Tuesday's matchup w/ Webster.

As for me, no trip to Elsah and "Just My Desserts."  I also won't get updates because there is no cell phone respection in Prin's facilities.  I will be at the Shirk Center for the TITAN OPEN!  YAH!! (blowing rasberries.)  Give me updates!!!

Unfortunately, I will not be going to Saturday's game at Maryville, so I will not be able to provide updates. I hope this will be the last game I miss this season. I realize I'm taking a chance here, since I have a 4-0 record on the road this season and the guys are 0-2 in conference without me. Earlier this season, it looked like Mac and Eureka were going to have a 1st place battle, but EC lost the 2 games before the Mac game and it lost some luster. Hopefully, the same thing does not happen again. Eureka plays Mac, Webster and Westminster next week. That stretch could be a lot of fun to watch if EC is able to get some more breathing room Saturday by beating MU. A loss makes next week very stressful.

The Griffin game was basically a repeat of the earlier game at BC. FU scored whenever they wanted and BC went 4-20 from three's. Zeb Hammond is a great offensive player. But, he does not seem to want to play much defense.

For FU:
Fogerty 23 pts (8-10) and 13 rebs.
White 21 pts and a good defensive outing
Fournie 15 pts, 6 rebs and 3 assists
Branch 14 pts., 6 rebs, 4 assists and 0 to's
Storandt 6 pts, 10 rebs, and 3 blks.
McCoy 9 pts and 4 assists and did a great job on Allen.

FU shot 55% and 44% from 3's

BC:
Hammond 20 pts and 2 rebs.
Allen 12 pts. and played the entire game w/ out a foul
Lamsargis and Smith had good nights 19 and 16 respectively

BC shot 41% and 20% from 3's

FU won the battle of the boards 44-30

Remember FU doesn't have a single Jr. or Sr. (elgibility wise) on the squad.

FU has two chances this coming week to take tiebreakers from teams in contention.

Coach McKinney was released from the hospital at 11:30 am was ready by game time. That's 1286 consecutive games.
