I hope these kids get a well called game tonite. FU's plan is to guard straight up on Hoggatt and not to foul him. If he gets 25 he gets 25, but not another 16 free throws to night.

The kids deserve to determine the out come. With most SLIAC crews this will be the case.

Go Beavers !!!!!!!!

another hopefan observation   -   a four way tie for 4th wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility (sorry commish) if Blackburn got hot  -  If Blackburn beat Mac @ home tonite and won at Westmin too, Westmin beats Geenville, and Greenville beat Eureka  -  Bang, 4 way tie for 4th with 7 losses.   Funny thing is - if that happened and Fontbonne beat Webster, there would also be a 3 way tie for 1st!!!

FC - I guess to equate the big men, I would say The offensive edge of White and Fogarty over Kuhn and Nicholds  (lets say + 20 points), would be offset by the offensive edge of Hoggatt over Storandt  (+ 20 points). Hoggats defense or lack of it really won't play much of a role when guarding Storandt, who hasn't been much of a scorer.
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

FC  Personal opinion - straight up against Hoggett didn't do it first time, I think i'd do something different  ;)

Hopefan - Straight up as in keep the body and hands vertical when he initiates the contact. I'm sure you'll see double, triple, zone or maybe just press and run.

MacMurray game at Blackburn tonight has been called off. Roads are brutal. Good call by both administrations and coaches. No word on when it will be rescheduled. I would think tomorrow night, unless both schools want to go Friday and Saturday - which I think is a horrible idea.

Someone told me the SLIAC used to play its conference games on Wednesdays and Saturdays - no Fridays, no Tuesdays, no Thursdays. Just Wednesdays and Saturdays. Seems simple and easy enough - why did it change?

I'm going to take the Beavers in an upset tonight against Mac.
Go Beavers!

Would love to come down and watch the game - but can't get of the driveway! Will the game be webcast? Any way to get updates? Hopefan will have to burn up minutes calling if the game isn't being carried by either school....

When you get to more than eight teams it's impossible to really schedule just Wednesdays and Saturdays and still get a double round-robin in without starting well before Christmas. Eighteen games with just two games a week takes nine weeks. You have to set one aside for the conference tournament and two for the holidays so you'd be playing conference games on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving or so.

Thanks, Pat. Makes sense. What doesn't make sense is the Friday night, Saturday afternoon games, back-to-back. I'd much rather see a Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday schedule, than anything resembling Friday/Saturday. Not sure why the conference schedule is spread out like a warm supper. Impossible for families to follow. My two cents worth....

y_jack_lok

I'm guessing the Friday/Saturday scheduling is for efficiency of travel in certain situations. When Eureka played at Webster it was on a Friday night. They then went to Westminster for Saturday afternoon games. When Webster went to Eureka it was on a Friday night. They then traveled part way back, spent the night, then played at Blackburn on Saturday afternoon. So the thinking must be that when these circumstancers arise all teams should play on the same schedule to keep things even, regardless of where the other schools are playing.

Hopefan, Blackburn already has 8 losses, not 7. They are not out of the running mathematically as far as I can tell, but I think the only way a 4 team tie for 4th would happen is if Fontbonne and Greenville lose out, Westminster loses both games before beating Greenville and Blackburn wins out. That would put 4 teams at 10-8.

My 2 cents on the Font/Webster game: Webster plays better team defense. As long as they take care of the ball and don't lose Fontbonne shooters in transition, I like their chances.

The game will be broadcast tonight via the web.  Here is the link:

I have been told that you must use either  i tunes or Real Player to get the broadcast.  This is the first time our campus radio station has tried broadcasting a game.  If there any technical difficulties, don't shoot the messenger.

Also, next year the conference will return to a Wednesday/Saturday schedule. And as Pat correctly noted, two or three of those games will be played before the Christmas break.

According to the Blackburn web site, the Mac/BC men's game has been postponed until Thursday. What's interesting is that the women's game is listed for a 6 pm start on Friday, but the men's game is listed at 6 pm Thursday. The schools are close enough I'm sure the teams travel separately anyway, so there's no reason to play on the same day, but I'd rather play on Thursday as opposed to Friday. I'm assuming the start times are that way to stay consistent with the rest of the season: men's Mon-Thu. games at 6 pm, women's Fri. games at 6 pm.
