I will reiterate that I do not condone the use of profanity.  Y_Jack, it seems like if you are that bothered by the use of profanity, logically you would change your seat and thus not subject yourself to the use of vile language.  Yes, it is unfortunate that you have to pick a certain seat mindful of this, but it is the realityof college athletics.  This is unfortunately part of the student sections across the country.  Other than complaining to the proper officials, what are you to do -- Personally monitor the behavior of any unruly faN and then remove him yourself.  What I was getting at is this - unless it is heard by someone of authority nothing can be done, because likely the offending party will deny it, and by doing so, avoid getting the boot!

OK Guys, Come On.

If you would of heard what I heard with 3 mins. to go in the first half from the Gorloks student standing section. You may of blown a gasket!!! Storandt has big block on Hoggatt. Three students from the group of 15-20 by the door, one of which I knew, let go of a well word stream of language in response.

Question for Bunchtime ? Do that many students stand in those doors for every game? Or just v. FU games.

Always been a personal pet peeve at the Webster affairs. Put those two groups in the stands and it's a full house.

Guys let's be real about the fan issue. I know I have seen more games then anyone on here, excluding the Commish. This happens at every level on every night of the week. We here in the SLIAC have been pounding the pavement for student support. You can't lose it over the 1 percent!!!!!!

I'm with these kids 52 weeks a year and I can tell that their vocabulary has changed. That starts at home, but we won't start that discussion.

If you play basketball at Fontbonne you know the number one rule. If you use the "F" word and Coach McKinney can hear it, Whew!!!. Your practice is over. Your game is done. take a seat. No way you start. Coach preaches to these kids that using this particular word shows a lack of intelligence. If you can not express yourself in a cival manner with out these choice of words. You don't have a big enough vocabulary to play for him.

SLIAC regular season games are still free of charge. There is no assigned seating. It is by far more entertaining then SLU.

If you pay admission to the conference tourney and someone offends you that bad. Ask a member of the host schools game management team to have him removed. Enjoy the crowds!!!!!

Well said FC, and particularly the point about the "losing it over the 1%"!

As to your question, I can only speculate that those students in front of the gym door were just popping in between classes or even a break from class.  However, I agree, that if these students were in fron the doors for a substantial amount of time, someone should force them to take a seat, which they probably would do.  I know most gyms do not allow this because it blocks the entrance/exits and can be a fire hazard!

hopefan

Bunch and FC and Yjak- If you guys referred back to my post

The kid said something WAY beyond what is allowed period  -  a Fontbonne yellow shirt student - a group that sat in front of a handful of fans including wives -

Prior to that, I detected no unallowable language
When it happened, a number of adults immediately let the student know, in no uncertain terms, that it would not be tolerated.
The student's body language indicated he was embarrassed and it would not likely happen again

AND, as I said in prior post, it didn't happen again and everyone had a good time.

No matter where YJak or I or FC or anyone else chooses to sit, it doesn't make FOUL language right used like that, and I know (because as was discussed long ago, I have seen more games than FC - at last count, I lead 2,123 to 1,847)
that it is NOT common occurrance the way it was screamed as the noise level was quieting (this was not a HAHA BOWLSHET chant) - And I agree that had Mr McKinney or Mr Hart been located near there, the young man was GONE.

Don't defend the defenseless
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

BunchTime

Moving on...As Mr. Hart has informed us, and I also recieved word, that the webcast will be povided to us fans who don't have the opportunity to get to the games.  Hopefully, things run as smoothly as they did last night!

I know also that the one WU student that I knew shot me a glance with that "Boy that was stupid look". These are good kids. Mac has a similar problem with their student sections. It's the 1% rule. I know the FU group you speak of. It's a bunch of athletes. Have you ever seen a sliac soccer game when the basketball, baseball and other teams are there. I think its an athlete problem. Not the foul language. Just the extreme emotions towards the officals. They can't say it on their field of baddle. So they use it as relief.

Ok Hope, but your figures are questionable ;D.

I guess I'm not attending the right games. Four rivers conference h.s., a lot of the FU h.s. tournament games, heaven for bid you have to go Anderson or SEMO.

It's the 1%.

Let me just say that I am very happy  :D that it isn't the Greenville fans getting the bad rap this time.  I would agree that even at our ball games that it's generally baseball/soccer/track athletes cheering.  We also have a core group of other students at our games.  I would say that there isn't a game where people aren't yelling or jeering at the officials.  It's apart of of the game.

I am proud  8) of my crowd because we do it in a way where people aren't our of control about how we act.  SLIAC Commish has been at a number of our games and has never had an issue with our games.  I'm really happy with that.

I'm not trying to gloat or change the subject either, I just wanted to state this because the hammer really came down on us a few years back (following the 19-8 season).  We had to put the banners up in our gym and the "Greenville" rule was put in place about no fans on the front row.

Pride - That's because the game in mention had it's out come determined by a fan situation. Not an abusive situation just a location issue. GC fans are great.

hopefan

I'm fine with the Greenville crowd except for that huskey guy with glasses that runs up and down waving his arms...... ;D

yes FC, my numbers are right  - we have this big tree in front of our house, and I put in a notch each time i go to a game, and each time you go  -  you get the side facing up the hill, I get the side facing down the hill..... or is it the other way around.... oh no..... ;D
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

If you go back and look, the fact that this whole discussion about language started with an unsolicited apology from FU_Pride ("We had a few kids get a little testy for a bit.  I'll be the first to apoligize.") speaks to the fact that I'm not the only one who thought it was a problem. FU_Pride, thanks for your recognition of the problem. hopefan, thanks for your support.

fcnews

Wow Hope. Let's see 50 games a year times 40 years. No not enough. You must be a lot older then I thought you were.

fcnews

Y_Jack - Sir, I was not condoning or supporting. I didn't no it was that type of discussion. I thought we were talking about fan behaivor in general and FU_Prides comment was the point of fact.

It was a yellow shirted kid called out. I was sitting just to the left of this group. I heard and was embarassed at the moment. I was just saying that I have seen that behavior at everyone of the old SLIAC schools on different occassions over the years. Excluding WC. I think of a basketball game where I saw a profanity issue. It does include PC.

I look at it this way. If it does truly step over the line you have to ask for game management. Simple. The question is what's the line. I've been through riots at a Wellston @ Venice high school game here in St. Louis. Mom and I got a police escort to the leaving bus. Which then got all the windows busted out as we left. I've also been to a game @ Anderson, IN. where the student section got so out of control that Coach's wife got escorted from behind the student section to a chair placed by FC's bench.

The current behavior at SLIAC games have been intense ( because of the way these teams have battled ) and some times "Blue". But in general I have yet to have someone crossover "my" line.

I'm a happy camper.

FU_Pride

moving on...what are everyone's picks for the weekend?

the godfather

i think WU, EC, WC and FU get in, dont know how the scenario will work out, hopes got me covered there.  who won tonight, mac or black?  also do you guys really know how many games youve seen?  id love to be able to know that kind of number.  i wouldnt know where to start.

fc youve never heard an expletive at WC cause churchill wouldnt allow it ;)

sully309

Mac 76, BC 75, Final

I'm assuming there's a good story that goes along with a score like this. I got the score off the Blackburn web site. That's Blackburn's 5th loss by single digits in conference play for those of you keeping track at home.
