Should be a fun 2 nights!  Now that everyone has their picks, I am obviously sticking with Webster!  I hope tonight's game is not such an emotional drain that the team, if they win, would have a lackluster performance tomorrow night!  I don't think that would play in since, after all, the implications of these games are huge and all teams are playing for an NCAA bid!

Best luck to all and I hope it provides a great spectacle of SLIAC basketball!  Go Gorloks!

Notice on Greenville's NCCAA Tournament Bid:

It is my understanding after talking with the players and coach that the team has decided not to accept the bid to the NCCAA Regionals due to budget strain.  The team, along with the women's team, is planning a trip this summer and going to the Regionals would take away from our budget for this.

I would have loved to see the boys in action one more time, but they are preparing for the summer trip and next season.

It appears as if "February Frenzy" has fizzled. I guess we'll cancel the unofficial pre game get together do to lack of interest.

Good Luck to all participants. Bunchtime I will buy you a beer at McClain's and set it on the bar for ya. I still think you might show up.

The #1 seed has not won the tournament since 1994 and the Griffin's have never lost a first round game. My view of the game is the same as the past two, If FU's guards shoot 30% the Griffin's win.

FC  I was coming over   -  will you still be there  - at Mc Clain's?

Sorry to disappoint FC, but there will be no appearance from BunchTime tonight or tomorrow, despite how badly I wish I could be there!

For the seniors, there could be nothing sweeter than to lace 'em up knowing it could be the last meaningful game they ever play against their biggest rival!  This is what its all about!

fcnews

Bunchtime - I'm glad it's not you who will be lacing them up.

Webster has a ton of pressure riding on this game. You have seniors and juniors who know they can't replace their seniors. They are trying to beat a team that they have already went to the wall with twice.
And, they can't lose and host the championship. The biggest thing that they have to worry about is stale start. They haven't played in a week.

Win @MU did wonders for this young Griffin team. They won on the road @ WC, BC and MU for the first time in 12 years. FU has at least two more runs, White and Branch three. FU will be loose.

God bless it, can someone post the score of the Webster - Mac game.

Fontbonne 67 - Webster 62. Congratulations to the Griffins who played great defense on Darin Hoggatt. In spite of that Webster could have won the game were it not for a poor night at the free throw line. A very competitive game. Corey Kuhn helped Webster with great straight-up defense on Fogerty, blocking a number of shot attempts before Fogerty could get off the ground. But that's what Fontbonne did to Hoggatt, and in the end it was Patrick McCoy who rose to the occasion for the Griffins. Should be a good game tomorrow night between Fontbonne and Eureka.

Hmmmm, I guess that's why I don't bet on games....   Eureka beats Mac rather easily - Mac never got any kind of inside game going, and both Whalen and Coleman had poor shooting nights from the perimeter.  All five starters hit double figures for Eureka, led by Tarply with 32.  Fontbonne holds on in the final minute to beat Webster- Webster had both a shot to tie and a shot to go ahead, but missed both, and Patrick McCoy finished off a great night making 4 Free throws in a row in the final seconds to nail down the win.  Fontbonne won it with great defense against Hoggat, and Webster fell too far behind with poor foul shooting until the last several minutes of the game.  The smile on Coach Mckinney's face after the game was brighter than the smiley  figures that get posted on these pages!!!!

And if White isn't a first team all conference player, something is wrong with the system....

who would have thought Eureka and fontbonne in the final  -  a good match up -  both teams have better than average big men and guards who can play great, or not so great.   I really look at the game as a tossup  -  I'll put my crystal ball away after my woeful predictions tonite.  Incidently, no fewer than 8 D3hoops SLIAC posters in attendance tonight - great to see everyone -

Congrats to the winners - looking forward to tomorrow night.

Let's just say that I am very disappointed in the result of this game!  I was hoping that Webster would come out with a liitle more fire than they did!  Like I've said, it is always tough to beat a team 3 times in a season, regardless of who you are!  Hats off to Fontbonne and Coach McKinney who apparently did a great job of shutting down Hoggatt!  Webster never seemed to get in a rhythm and they struggled tremendously from the FT line!  I've been saying all along, this is the SLIAC, where anything could happen and now we have 3 vs. 4 tomorrow!  Should be a good one!

Having said that, 3 individuals from Webster have played their last games!  Scott Spinner had a helluva career and has put his name in the record book at Webster in various categories!  What a career.  He will be missed!  2 other individuals also have had solid careers -- Jeff Messamn and Shawn Nichoalds -- 2 guys who don't score a lot, but come to play every night and help the team in anyway they can!

Though it is tough, Webster finished up 16-10 with one of the toughest schedules in the conference.  They continue to make strides.  Coach Bunch did a great job this year and has a lot returning next year and will expect even more!

hopefan, check your email.

I would rather havehad things work out so that Webster could play MacMurray or Eureka in the semifinal game. I felt that Fontbonne was really the toughest matchup for Webster. No guarantee, of course that Webster would have won against either of the other teams, but my gut told me their chances would be better. Once again, congratulations to Fontbonne.

Just left Webers Grill. Big crowd of FU family and friends. While there Scott Spinner and family and friends were also their. Scott and Coach McKinney had a nice 15 minute conversation. Scott is a class act. FU played as hard as these kids could play. After starting 0-5 in the first half from behind the arc, White and McCoy were 6-10 in the second half. McCoy was 8-12 from the field. White's quick two fouls had him setting for the entire first half.

Webster was confused on offense most of the night. And Bunch set Hoggatt down for a straight 6 mins. in crucial run. FU had the lead to 9 in the first half and then didn't score the final 3:32 of the half.

I was very disappointed in the frustration shown by MC towards the end of their game. They SLIAC Co-Champs and I guess I expected better.

Can EC beat FU for the third time this year. It should be fun.

The question running through my mind is why am I working for track?  What a great night in the Groves of Webster last night.  Two upsets.  3 seed and 4 seed playing for the title.

Good luck to both programs for making it to the finals.  I have to pull for the kids in gold and purple tonight.  Good Luck to both teams though.
