Congrats to Fontbonne.

Good effort, Eureka. You came close enough to the big dance to hear the ice cubes rattling in the punch bowl.

SLIAC Tournament Championship Game was as exciting a game as you would want. EC maturity showed late in regulation. Those seniors did not want their season to end. FU close losses early helped down the stretch. Congrats to the Kids!!!! I never stopped beleiving.....

Could to see a couple of my favorite posters their tonite. And Furbug no appologies are necessary for being a homer. I am known for the same.

Trevor White was just way to tough for EC to guard and Tourney MVP McCoy did what needed to be done. He didn't ask for duties and he did well this weekend. I can't beleive T. Love wasn't all - tourney. He averaged about 1 pt per minute played. He'll be really tough when he's 33.

Well, I went to the SLIAC final, as always, hoping for a close game, with no real wish for who wins.   I've gotten to chat with both coaches, I've enjoyed them both, so what I wanted was exciting down to the end of the game hoops

GOT IT

Fontbonne got great shooting from White and McCoy to take a seemingly insurmountable lead, Eureka had a great comeback and got the shot they wanted to win the game, but it didn't drop.  Tarpley kept Eureka in the game for the first 2 minutes of OT with 2 monster 3's, but Fontbonne pulled away with outstanding free throw shooting particularly from Justin Storandt, to win going away.

McCoy not White got the Tourney MOP - either could have - I've grown to expect White to be the best player on the court, and he was.  McCoy cut down his turnovers and shot better than he has - benefits that made the difference.

The season's MOP was Formally announced as Tarpley - funny, in my vote, which I did not go public with, I had him on my 2nd team - both times I had seen him this year, he had faltered in losses - but I became a believer this weekend.

How White doesn't make first team is beyond silly.   I almost feel that way about Spinner/Whalum (one or the other) too.   If the conference wants to do one thing a little better, mandate the coaches get together to discuss the team, and make sure a point guard is on it.  Having 4 big men and one small forward on the all conference team is not representative.  Having a secret vote too can lead to attempts to sabotage a players vote total in an effort  to improve your own player's position.

Fontbonne goes to the NCAA's - can they be competitive?  - that will be the topic of conversation the next 3 or 4 days.  Unfortunately, unless they play at Wash U, I personally won't be able to see a Thursday night game on the road.   It's an exciting time for the team, and I wish them the best of luck.  One must realize though that the level of competition will be  VERY different.
Let's hope whoever they play might be able to get the game on the internet, or that fontbonne could post minut by minute action on D3Hoops as Eureka SID did last night.

FCnews  -  Amusing  -  check out Pat's projections on front page and whom fontbonne would end up meeting  -  just as I suggested 'could' happen.   Going to Mississippi College last year wasn't much of an experience for Maryville last year  -  I hope Fontbonne draws something other than that.

Pretty amazing that each time the winning team had lost both games in the regular season to the team they beat in the tournament. As usual in sports, it's not always the best team that wins, but the team that plays the best. All 4 teams that made the tourney (and even some that didn't) were fairly evenly matched. If the tournament was played 4 times, it wouldn't surprise me to see 4 different winners.

I probably would have gone with White for tourney MVP, but oh well. He was the difference between the first 2 meetings (he had only 2 points in the 1st game vs. Eureka for example) and the last game. Fogerty was his normal consistent self and McCoy picked up his play.

Great season for the Red Devils. Not many (if any) teams can say they improved their record 12 games from the previous year. It stings to go that far and get so close and not end up finishing it off, but maybe 10 years from now, we'll look back and say this was the year Eureka basketball began to be put back on the map.
