Thanks Sager for your commentary. FU probably knows what Wash U. has as well as anyone. FU has seen more Wash U. home games then any of it's own SLIAC teams.  We do have one head - to - head to go on. Sager's comments are the kind of stuff we need the Bears to be looking at all week long. Go ahead and over look us.

I strongly doubt that Wash U coach Mark Edwards will allow his players to take the SLIAC's historical difficulty in the D3 tournament seriously. Even if the Bears are aware of the SLIAC's record of futility, I can pretty much guarantee that Coach Edwards is going to give them the ol', "Nothing that happened in past years matters, the game earlier this year doesn't matter, on Friday night the scoreboard will read 0-0, you're going to have to take this team seriously and compete hard" speech.

The board is remarkably quiet for such an exciting time of the year.   Hope that the regular posters are silently supporting Fontbonne's quest for the big upset.

Was looking at the Michigan board - I miss a lot of things about the atmosphere of Hope college and their big rivalry with Calvin, but getting tickets for NCAAs is not one of them.  The NCAA in their infinite wisdom has stuck Hope and calvin in the same "pod",playing at Aurora.  350 seats are being made available to the two schools - I imagine over 1000 from each school will be trying to get those seats even with the 4 hour trip.  ugh.

Incidently, if both Calvin and Hope win on Friday, they'll play Saturday - the 5th meeting this season  -  no, I'll stay home to watch Font or Wash on Saturday thanks

The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Hopefan we all appreciate your devotion to the SLIAC. The Hope/Calvin match up (second round) is just one of the head scratchers that the NCAA threw out there.

Sager - I just figured after your lengthy post of the past SLIAC performances that the scoreboard probably wouldn't even be used. They really start off 0-0. Well in that case we might as well play the game then. After reading your post I figured FU might as well take the free NCAA meal and call it a day. So I guess we will need to bring our sneakers and tape measure so Gene Hackman can measure the rim.

These kids are so "Green" that after Wash U. and Univ. of Chicago they really haven't heard of most of these schools. They just feel like who's got next.

Hey guys FU made the front page. We are in the Cinderella Poll. It's an honor to be considered. Pat had FU women's team pegged as a "Cinderella" in 2001. They made him look good that year.

Please! If anybody get's a chance. Take a look into the archives and see the nice coverage D3Hoops did for that team. We claim here in the SLIAC that pub is impossible. We have a better chance here then in our own Post - Dispatch. But, I've always said pub is earned.

Pat Coleman - I just wanted to let you know that we here in the SLIAC do appreciate your work. You've come along way. You need to know that thanks to the 2001 coverage you acquired a large audience of lurkers since then. Thanks

FU_PRIDE - Yes, the Webster University 2001 - 2002 team won the SLIAC conference, then won the first two games in the NCAA, went to the sweet 16 at Stevens Point, WI and lost a close game to the eventual champion, Wisconsin Stevens Point. Wbster led that game for almost three quarters. Halley Spann fouled out and Tara Fortschneider was hurt during the game. The next day the Stevens Point newspaper ran a column on Tara titled, "One Tough Gorlok." it was a grat tribute from the opposition. If you are interested, I can find a link to that article and send it to you. That was a great team that year under Ryan Barke.

As a UWSP fan I remember that well.  Point's smaller, older Berg gym turned into one of the loudest, most intimidating environments on that weekend that I have ever seen.  (They didn't bid for the larger fieldhouse, Quandt because they underestimated the ticket demand.) Plus the weather was unseasonably warm making the gym extremely hot.  Webster hung tough for the whole game even with their emotional leader at less than 100%.

I also recall following Point to the Final Four in Terre Haute the next weekend.  There sitting in the first row was Coach Barke and most of his team, cheering loudly for Point.  I got the chance to talk to Ryan between games and he said he just wanted to show his team how close they were to being a real contender, and they wanted to back Point because they felt they were a classy program who deserved to get a title.  I thought that was a very classy move myself.

Thanks, man, I appreciate the kudos. I can say, more SLIAC coverage to come this week, too.

Hopefully some of the lurkers come out of the woodwork -- we do tend to focus our coverage where we know there are people who are interested.

Again, forgive me for posting women's basketball on this board.  I just know people rarely check the women's side.  I rarely do.  With that being said...

Final in Greenville, Ill.
Greenville 76 - Trinity International 72

Greenville played horrible most of the game.  Turnovers by people who normally don't turn the ball over.  Our starting two guards has 6 and 8 turnovers.  Down the stretch, the Free Throws and competitiveness of the Lady Panther's squad aided in the win.  GC went 18-23 (72.2) from the FT line in the 2nd half.  Big shoutout to my girl Trisha Draege who went 13-15 from the FT line, picked up 11 rebounds and 15 points in her last game at HJ Long Gymnasium.

Tentative scheudle for GC.  The Ladies may have to travel to Bethany Luthern (Minn.) this weekend.  If they don't, then they will accept a At-Large Bid to the NCCAA Nationals in Oakland City, Indiana.  More information on that as it develops tomorrow afternoon.  I will let you know. :)

Thanks fcnews for being very supportative of GC Lady Hoops.  Great text msging going on during the game.  I'm glad people were listning.  I'm hoping to go to the National Tournament and maybe brocast the game myself because we won't send anyone.

Big Congrats Pride!!! Wish GC's men had the same oppurtunity. SLIAC has to support SLIAC and the GC v. FU relationship is special.

Update on the Griffin's practices have went well. Coaches have analyzed film till their eyes are now blurry. FU has a game plan to try and keep close the first 30 and make it a 10 minute game. Ruths plays a lot like Hoggatt, he won't shoot the three like Tarpley. PG Wallis is a very heady player and knows how to win. I don't think he's as explosive offensively as WU grad Stone was. The difference is their wing Nadding a very athletic player that can score. FU will not be totally out sized. Wash U. does run a great offense that will test the young Griffin's new found desire for defense. I think Lovette will play a role in the out come. For one he's added size to the depth and has shown he's capable of scoring. I look for Fogerty and White to play BIG. Brian is a warrior who will not except defeat. He may or should say is the SLIAC's most improved player.

Patrick McCoy can keep to's to a minium and push the ball it will be a huge plus. He has not recieved enough recognition for taking on the duties after Parker's departure. All he did was lead his team to a 14-4 record.

Boy's - I still beleive in these Kids

My only problem with Sager is he comes on here and posts the obvious. Does he think us here in the SLIAC don't already know our conferences record. Every poster is aware of this. We don't need his almighty to come in here and preach the obvious.

We're collecting previews for each team in the tourney on one of the multiregional boards. If I get them by friday I may even be able to stick them in one document for people to peruse. A fun little tourney resource of sorts. Could someone here do one for Fontbonne? Thanks!
