I suspect Hettinga is betting that our government will continue to drag its feet on the problem of global warming and that the northern Michigan winters will be milder than hopefan describes.

hahahaha....

While that is a funny joke, I hate that Al Gore decided to use the popular term "Global Warming"... it just makes the issue simpler than it is.

So I'll I stick that all too often stated reminder that the correct term is "Global Climate Change" and that it characterized by unpredictable severe weather... So, northern Michigan could get warmer, or it could get much, much, colder and snowier... ouch.

I should probably leave this alone, or perhaps we could move it to another venue such as private messages, but I want to make a short response to diehardfan. While "Global Climate Change" may be the more accurate term, and "unpredictable severe weather" the overall result, the fact remains that the earth as a whole is getting warmer. Should it get colder and snowier in northern Michigan, that is a localized result. I don't think we're heading into another ice age. Quite the contrary.
Duh... I majored environmental science and work in an environmental field... at a D3 college, so I obviously understand these things. :P ;) The point is that...

1) We can't accurately predict local weather to be warmer universally, it's going to be quite the opposite in many places....

2) People see a random cold day, or a cold winter, and say "Ahah! I knew global warming was a farce." When it is really more evidence for than against the validity of the issue.

It drives me nuts because people make comments about global climate change in both of these ALL time time on the board (and off of it for that matter)... it's really becoming my pet peeve in the way that Greg's pet peeve is that people refer to the nonconference season as the "preseason."

If you really want to debate the issue of Global Climate Change, feel free to shoot me a PM... but if you are informed on the issue, I really doubt we disagree.

Hopefan - Sliac medical redshirts are submitted to the Commish and are his sole decision.

To clarify, however, a decision can be appealed to an NCAA committee.

hopefan - Rest assured there are extremely capable and qualified people at MacMurray steering its athletic department during this transition period. To suggest, as you have a couple of times now, that only a secretary is handling the day-to-day responsibilities within the college's athletic department is a disservice to the many fine people who work there - including the secretaries. My sense is this issue has already been reported to the NCAA, a ruling was sought, and a decision made. That decision was relayed to the college, and the player, last week. And I would expect the new coach to make an official announcement as soon as he's on board. Hopefully that will be the end of the story, and Seth can enjoy and contribute next season.

I loved the Greenville gym, although it was hotter than blue blazes inside the night we were down there, and the bleachers had a little sway to them. But it was a cool place. Hope nothing changes.

For diehardfan. I'm not sure how to start this private message thing, so if you want to continue the conversation you can take the first step.

Far be it from me to debate global climate change with an environmental sciences major actively working in the field. I get the feeling you thought I was insulting your intelligence with my last post. That wasn't my intention. I just couldn't tell from what you said exactly where you stood on the issue. I think we are on the same page. Certainly hope so. The extent of my knowledge comes from seeing "An Inconvenient Truth" twice and very limited reading of newspaper and magazine articles on the subject. I believe the scienctific community which, from what I read, is virtually unanimous on this matter.

No 1 - far too sensitive regarding my teasing  -  I'm sure the secretary is VERY capable  -   ;D ;D

2  -  the Whalum situation has not passed through the SLIAC office  (this is a first hand fact reported directly to me)  so likely has not been run through the NCAA.  What FC and Pat said agrees directly with what was reported to me by the Commish's office - a question of eligibility is first reported to and decided on by the SLIAC commissioner  -  if there is disagreement from the school, they may then appeal to the NCAA  -  the issue has not yet been brought to the SLIAC Commissioner.

Great comments and feedback about HJ Long Gymnasium.  The biggest complaint I read was the beacher situation.  After 50 years, HJ Long Gymnasium is getting new bleachers!  They are the standard plastic bleachers that you find at most gyms (ie: Webster).  They will be black with an orange "GC".  It may make the gym a little darker, but it can't make it any darker than the wooden wonders that we have had for the last 50 years.   Other things will be minor things.  Fresh Paint job in the gym, updated logo painted on the wall, glass backboards on the side goals, and new windows.

EurekaSID, I have mentioned the banners and it's a work in progress.  We don't have a ton of room to hang banners and my concern is with our heat lamps and the possibility of fire with banners that close to them.  Also, I'm sorry I missed you at the GC/EC basketball game.  I would have love to meet you.  Maybe we'll run into each other at the softball/baseball tourneys or if you happen to travel down to GC for a game this spring.

fcnews, I'll PM you.

As for my future, I'm still looking for jobs and hoping GC can get some money to keep me around next year.  If you guys know of anyone looking for an entergetic guy to head up an athletic program, SID, or any work like that, make sure you drop me an email!! :)

Nice job by Greenville College on the bleacher upgrades. I think that's great. Personally, I think wood bleachers fit nicely with the rest of the gym, but the orange GC will be cool. I'm partial to the orange and black anyway, since those were my high school colors.

Hopefully we'll be getting a new floor and bleachers at Eureka soon. Both are much needed. One thing that will be different for sure will be the entrance to the Reagan Center. Some of you who came late in the year may have gotten a vague idea what was happening, but there will be a new fitness center added on to the front. It will make the whole building not look so "1970s," which is a good thing in my opinion. It should be ready to go early this summer.

Panther, our baseball team already went down for their DH and I'm unlikely to make it for the softball games on the 16th. I doubt we'll both make the softball tourney, but I'll try to go to that if EC makes it. Baseball is probably out of the running already.

AF4, Eureka, Greenville and MacMurray are members of the Illini-Badger Football Conference for the next season, which is located in the North region boards. It's a reasonably active board with Greenville and Mac having active members last season. It is usually dominated by posters from schools that regularly dominate the league, however (Lakeland, Concordia (WI) and Aurora).

Blackburn, Westminster and Principia are members of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) for next season. That board is in the west region. I am not familiar with it, so I don't know what you'll find there.

Everyone at Eureka is very much looking forward to playing SLIAC football starting in 2008. I think it's a good move for all of the current SLIAC members to ditch the UMAC. I don't know much about LaGrange or Huntingdon, but I'd rather go to Birmingham in October than to Minneapolis, if you know what I mean.

Eureka SID, I think that you will enjoy your trip South.

I hope that your coaches take a little time to make one side trip if they can for each trip.

When going to Montgomery, I would take in Selma and study the Selma-Montgomery march in 1965.  There are numerous museums in the Selma and Montgomery area.

When going to LaGrange, I would take in FDR's retreat at Warm Springs, GA.

I now seem to have better contacts at Mizzou U than Maryville   -  for some reason, I haven't gotten a coach's note since January - and with Coach Myers no longer on the staff, I hear nothing.   Coach Rogers, get me back on the list!!!!!!
