Wouldn't mind seeing some SLIAC conference tourney softball assuming it extends into this weekend given the rainy weather  -  yjack, furbug, fcnews - if you're aware of revised schedules, particularly for Saturday, please post here  -  it is not yet up on the SLIAC site.

hopefan,

No replay time had been set as of this morning, but one of the players told me this morning that the site for Webster's first games was being changed to Maryville. If I find out more, I'll let you know.

furbug

hopefan,

Webster plays Blackburn tonight at 5:00 at Maryville. I assume there is another game after that. I can't make it as I am supposed to go to the Cardinals game. I'd rather be at the Webster game, as they play better.

+1 for the bugman!!!!!!

I'm tied for tonite too, but if it clears up tomorrow, I'd like to go whereever - if you think of it, post tomorrow morning......

Given the weather I doubt any games will be played this evening. If there are games tomorrow I might try to go depending on where and when.

Softball games are posted now on the SLIAC site - scheduled Friday through Sunday starting with Fontbonne vs. Maryville at 3:00 today, which can't very well be being played right now.

An excellent Daily Dose "A Plea for the DIII athlete" on the homepage, and a nice response by hopefan. All readers/posters should check it out.

Can't believe they actually played the softball games today. Maryville 3 - Fontbonne 2 and Webster 10 - Blackburn 8.

Webster and Maryville play at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday). Fontbonne/Blackburn at 3:45. Winners of those 2 games play at 1 p.m. on Sunday. I might go tomorrow for the Webster/Maryville game.

The games are at Maryville, but I see graduation at Maryville is also scheduled on campus  -  where is the softball field ?

Checked a map, looks like softball field is right off back entrance to campus -

Hey, as we look to move toward the baseball SLIAC Tourney at Principia & Alton, Ill., anyone here planning on attending that?  I did served as the Announcer/DJ for the Tourney last year at Alton and I'm going to talk to Coach MecFessel about it again pending i can clear my schedule.  Maybe inbetween sessions we can go into Alton and grab some lunch??

1. Webster (15-3)
2. Greenville (13-5) - Tie-Breakers v. Blackburn (2-0)
3. Blackburn (13-5)
4. Fontbonne (10-8)*
5. Westminster (9-9) -- ELIMINATED
6. Maryville (8-8)* - Tie Breaker over Fontbonne (2-0)

* Maryville Plays Lincoln Christian on Monday. A sweep would give Maryville the #4 spot due to a sweep of Fontbonne.  A split gives Fontbonne the #4 Seed.

Mac Attack II

MacMurray College has hired a new president. Hopefully she will be committed to raising the resources to ensure both academic excellence, as well as making sure the athletic programs have the resources necessary to compete, attract and retain quality coaches, and upgrade facilities. A new athletic director should be coming within the next week or so. The person has already been identified, but will need the OK from the new president. This will be another positive step forward. And once this is done, interviews will begin for the new basketball coach. No shortage of applicants for the position. Just need to make sure we not only get the right person, but bring in someone who's committed to the team, program, and school for more than one year. I feel pretty confident in believing that person is out there. Seth Whalum has decided to enroll in the police academy, which has been his lifelong dream. He was told by the school that he had another year of eligibility, if he wanted to return for another season. But as he's already graduated and had been accepted at the academy, it was time to move on. Would have loved to have him back, but he's really looking forward to the future. Farrid Coleman will be back, as will the rest of the non-seniors. None of the recruits have backed out, and the player who was on campus for the second semester who's got two years of eligibility left is ready to go. Terrific athlete who will really help at both ends of the floor. The team had a real nice recognition dinner a couple of weeks ago. Great group of young men. Hettinga was very gracious and you could tell it was hard for him to say good-bye.

That's great news, MacAttack - the top of the pyramid is now there - let's hope everything else falls in place smoothly.   Thanks for the info.

Congrats to Seth Whalum - and best of luck in his future endeavors - I note that a prior post was indeed directly from him (using a pseudonym as most of us do)- he gave strong hints in that post both about his interest in furthering his education beyond Mac, and that Coleman would be returning.

Coleman's return is a crucial piece of the puzzle for Mac, especially with Whalum leaving.  I view him as the best returning guard in the conference along with Fontbonne's Cartez Parker, and with the great group of 6'3" - 6'"4 guard forwards that Mac also has back, along with Robertson in the middle, they look solid.

Talked with Maryville Hoops Coach Rodgers the other day at the SLIAC Softball tourney - while the recruiting picture is a bit hazy, he did make me aware that Tyler Saxton will not be returning next year - St Louis was a little too far from his central Wisconsin home for him to be 100% happy.

While this is not a devastating loss for the Saints, I'll miss Tyler.  Maryville had a tough year last year, but the combination of Tyler's small stature but breakneck attitude made it easy to root for him.  Tyler would have been better off playing JV as a frosh, but Maryville's huge losses to graduation necessitated an abundance of playing time for 4 or 5 freshmen who had alot to learn.   It was a tough season for him, but he was really a 100% kind of kid.  He gained a measure of respect throughout the conference with the way he played the game.

At this point in time, Tyler's plans are to attend D3 St Norbert's, where he hopes to continue to play.

Our SLIAC baseball board could use some commentary, for those of you on this board wanting to talk baseball...

As usual, Webster's non-conference for next season appears to be as tough as any in the league.  Kudos to the staff for going out and playing some good competition and hopefully preparing the Gorloks for what seems to be another competitive year in the SLIAC.

Hanover (home)
Transy (home)
Augustana (home -- Gorlok classic) also includes Wash U.
Wisc. Platteville (home -- Gorlok classic)
Washington U. (away)
Illinois Wesleyan (away)
Milwaukee School of Engineering (away)

As many know, I am a big advocate of this type of scheduling and I believe it will certainly help when the Gorloks enter conference play.

Also, from the recruting side of things, Webster has signed (or has recieved committments) from 9 players... 3 are Juco kids and 6 are very good high school players... and are awaiting from various others.  As I get more information and updates, I will be sure to pass it on!
