Interesting observation, Hoops Fan, about pulliing the ball off the rim. I'll have to ponder that -- and find a way to watch some more international rules hoops. I get tv over the air waves -- don't subscribe to cable tv, don't have a satellite dish, etc -- so my opportunities are limited.

it's closer to the original conception of the game, which took place without a backboard whatsoever.

When the game was conceived we did not have 7-foot tall players. I do not like pulling it off the rim one bit.

I'm all for ripping them off the rims. The more 6'4 - 6'9 athletes you have the better.

Honestly, I think it would be interesting to see what the NBA players would do if they raised the rim a foot or two.  Perhaps the game's gotten too easy for these super athletes.  Making them play with a 12 foot rim might be an interesting experiment.  Can we get an off-season ESPN show about this?

I like that idea.  Or maybe one of those double baskets where it has to get through both hoops to count, like a fifteen footer and a ten footer.

Then maybe we can make the court a giant trampoline so they can jump really.... oh wait, that's been done.

How about a vibrating rim on a backboard that moves back and forth ;D ;D

Dear Hoops Fan:

The trampoline idea is so passé.

I am also for eliminating the goaltenders in hockey and soccer. They ruin the game! And in baseball, I think that if a fan catches the ball in the stands, the batter should be out! ;D

Someone took away the Karma that hopefan gave me. Bummer! I see that Y-Jack's Karma was also taken away. Who needs Karma anyway?

Wow the rare karma complaint that results in positive karma.  It must be an off-season thing.

Small list of recruits that have joined the Griffin Nation.

Ben Rapp -6'0 PG ( Ft. Zumwalt West )

Frank Sheetz -6'4 F ( Vianney )

Mike Riba -6'6 F ( Seckmann )

Jarrett Buford - 6'0 G ( Eureka )

Rantin Aliabadi - 6'3 PG transfer from Mizzou ( Francis Howell Central '06 )

Patrick Ostapowick - 6'4 F transfer from Clemson ( SLUH '03 ) went to Clemson to play golf, will have two years remaining.

There is a short list. Hopefan will likely have his comments on several of these. Rapp was hard recruited by Wash U., Webster, and UMSL.

ok here comes the comments  our fans can draw there own conclusions if they wish  -  BUT, some of FC's comments had me excited, until I did this review.....

The only one I've personally seen play  is Jarret Beauford. Eureka's roster lists him at 5'8", not the 6' that FC has - can he help immediately - no.  will he ever help - well, doubtful, but he's been well coached (Craig Kennedy and I go a long ways back) and is unselfish  -  but at 4 points per game and 2.5 assists, he didn'tt accomplish much at Eureka.

The rest of the guys I'll just spit out the stats...
Ben Rapp, 5' 10"  Zumwalt West   must have been hurt a while his senior year, as he only played 15 games   -Averaged 8 points per game, 3.3 Assists  -  shot extremely well from 3 point range (20 for 37)

Frank Sheets  Vianney 6' 4"  averaged 4 points, 2.3 rbds

Mike Riva  Seckman  6'6" averaged 10.5 points, 6 rebounds - must play strictly in the middle as he had no 3 pt FG attempts  - Seckman was an 8-17 team

Ramtin Akbari played for Howell, not Howell Central, graduating in 2006 - I'll assume this is who FC meant  - listed as 6'0 on Howell's roster in 2006  averaged 3 points per game, less than 1 assist per game, and didn't play last year at Mizzou  (Maybe Quinn recruited him but he couldn't play for Anderson)

Patrick Ostapowicz graduated from SLUH in 2003 - they were 8-19 that year  -   He was far and away their best player averaging  14.6 points and 6.3 rebounds  -  I find no record of him playing golf at Clemson, but if he was there for 4 years, it would seem he's played no organized basketball during that time.  4 YEARS

FC is there more?  what about the major signing you mentioned the other day  -  is that one of these guys??

That's some speedy research by hopefan -- 1 hr and 10 minutes after fcnews made his post. I think some of the height discrepancies may be allowances for the fact that these kids are still growing, so by next Oct/Nov they will have reached "new heights"  :) ;D

Yjack - Maybe we should get blood samples for suspected use of human growth hormone!!!!!
