Yes, no worries that I won't be around the SLIAC Board.  And yes, it will be a major delay on getting a Greenville Scoreboard update because I have done it the past 5 years...  I will do what I can to try to keep updated on what is going on.

Thanks for all your great words of encouragement.

panther, you will be a success in Tacoma. We have faith in you. Now you have less than 8 weeks to train someone at Greenville how to submit scores, etc. But no one can ever fully replace you there.

Mac Attack II

MacMurray College has announced the Ms. Sue Hansen will be the new athletic director. Ms. Hansen comes to MacMurray from Alverno College in Milwaukee. From all that I've heard, she is top-notch.

Hope this post wasn't too lengthy.

Ms Hansen has been the AD at Alverno since 1999 - she took on an incredibly difficult task of introducing an athletic program to a school that serves primarily to educate females to become nuns.

She has been the head basketball coach at Alverno in each of the years that D3Hoops has recorded on their page (back to 2002) with a record that peaked at 6-19, and came to 2-24 this past year.

With the current Alverno site not listing Ms Hansen on their Athletic Page, or in their staff directory, there would be an implication that Alverno and Ms.Hansen had split ways well prior to Friday's announcement, though I can't find a confirmation.

Serving at Alverno since 1999, she has obviously not dealt with men's sports for at least the length of her tenure there.

Be careful what you imply, hopefan. A filly won the Belmont today.

Wydown Blvd.

Before Alverno:
"Sue Hansen – A three-sport letterwinner at the University of Nebraska, Hansen achieved coaching success at both the high school and college levels, and worked as a Bucks camp director while serving as women's basketball coach at Waukesha's Carroll College. The [Milwaukee] Bucks camps would eventually set up their headquarters there."

At Carroll, Hansen was 86-119 as a basketball coach from 1989-1998.

I wonder if Ms Hansen will be coaching the Mac women???  Shell be starting with a pretty bare cupboard there, as Mac generally dressed only 6 or 7 players towards the end of the season....    And YJack, my paragraph was designed to state only facts  so as not to aggravate any other board members  -  any implications were strictly in YOUR interpretation of what I wrote ::) ::)

Reporting from Whoknowswhere, Illinois MAcMurray College has not only been hurt by the departure of Coach Hettinga, but also 3 of 5 starters will not be returning to the team next year.  Obviously Whalum, is graduated, one player ineligible (Ask MAC PT. 2) with possible hopes of returning second semester, and one not registering for classes.  As far as MacMurray Athletics the hire of the female AD is what it is.  The hire is a money thing, so there it is I said it.  Hopefan give your facts but the fact of the matter is the female is gonna do what she has to do, and she is probably more knowledgeable than you is my guess.  I also guess she will be around 2-4 years and take a D-1 job for whatever reason, like Haslem.  MAC hires good people, but lets face it they cant keep them, case in point HETTINGA!!!!!!  The average tenure for MacMurray employees is 1.5 years, but HETTINGA lowered it by .2 to 1.3.  They haven't kept a mens or women's coach in the last 4 years consecutively, they have had 4 VB coaches in 5 years, 5 Softball coaches in 4 years, football and baseball is down.  This is D-3 realize these kids are not going pro.  They need to turn athletics into club sports until they can get the school back in the money.  They treat athletics as a joke there lets be honest.  So why take away from these kids college experience and let them explore other options by closing athletics all together, they did the favor to the wrestlers hopefully other sporrts will follow suit.  Hopefan you are a simpleton following the worst D-3 conference in America, MacAttack part DEUX lets be real here, MAc hasnt made a spectacular hire in 25 years and when they have the individual was smart enough to get out of DOdge and prosper elsewhwere.  The mens team will not win 10 games next year without Hettinga, he is the one that won games for that team, regardless of what his players did.  Ask Denieve.  PantherPride is a donkey if you ever saw him act after or during a game you would know what I am talking about.

Oh yeah Im out and will be back soon.......INSIDE_INFORMATION signing off.

PS cant wait to hear from you guys!!!

Insider, I imagine you are a distressed Mac Athlete or alum -  there was another who wrote last year at some point who was very unhappy - I feel your pain.   As for questioning my being a follower of the SLIAC - when one lives in St. Louis and loves the concept of non scholarship athletics, there is obviously no one else to watch but the SLIAC, and Wash U  -   I watch both.   If you are inside enough to know two others besides Whalum not returning, that's a heck of a revelation, but you leave yourself open to critique if you are simply blowing smoke.....  oh, if I thought I was more knowledgeable than Sue Hansen, I might have applied for the job!! ;D ;D

Wow, again!!! No offense to womens basketball, but that is a waste of a full time position. What kind of Men's coach can they now hope to find.

Ms. Hansen's resume sounds similar to what FU had before their current AD took over as Basketball Coach / AD. Remember 18 years ago FU was basically a womens catholic school that had just gone co-ed. Two women sports with no affiliation. Now NCAA D3 with about 16-17 fulltime men and womens sports.

Did I call it, that Farris Coleman was done at Mac. That would leave them with Robertson, a very talented athlete playing out of position, and nothing else. Unless Robertson is another casulty that was mentioned.

With Mac Attacks vested, or should I say invested, interest in this program it is more then resonable that he would have "rose color classes" take. They are probably trying to sell alot of those glasses in Jacksonville right now.

Pride who know I will stay in touch. You also know, beyond a shadow of a doudt, what the FU family thinks about you. It's a shame you didn't look good in a skirt or had any knowledge of coaching lacrosse. You could of been a Griffin. Maybe we can arrange something when FU is out in Cali. at Christmas.

PantherPride is a ...

Perhaps. But it only took him one try to figure out how to read the registration instructions. I see it took you two to realize we were serious about needing a real e-mail address.

FC's :  "With Mac Attack's vested or should I say invested interest in this program...."
Priceless

Now would be the time I would love to have Mac come on and give us the word that Insider is making up stories  -  If we don't hear from Mac, it just leads the rest of us to wonder if there is truth to what Insider says.......

As for Insider - while the namecalling is silly  (Insider I might remind you that there are rules and a complaint or two would likely get you pushed off the board quickly), I found his thoughts more than interesting.  Would love to moderate a debate between Mac and him.  Yjak, furbug, FC, Eureka SID, and  Panther could be in the audience firing out the questions.... ;D ;D

Wow! Fireworks, and it isn't even the 4th of July. Can there be a better place to be a poster than the SLIAC board? The basketball may not be the best in the country, but the posting is top notch.

hopefan, I should know better than to assume you might question a woman's ability to direct a men's athletic program -- even if you do call women basketball players girls ;D ;D

You did make your one implication quite clear
Quotethere would be an implication that Alverno and Ms.Hansen had split ways well prior to Friday's announcement,
:) ;)

While I would not go as far as insiders_information and suggest closing down Mac's entire athletic program, I will go back to a previous discussion that took place on this board about whether or not some of our conference schools should be playing football. The smaller co-ed schools like Eureka, Blackburn, Principia and MacMurray, might do well to drop football. However, that isn't going to happen (at least not in all cases, although it might be good for MacMurray), since the SLIAC is becoming a football conference in 2008.

hopefan

Iwould think that the numbers of guys coming in each year in order to play football - say 20 - 30 guys, is such a percentage of the freshman class that it is a significant  justification for keeping the programs going.
