I think the good news is central Illinois is loaded with young women who could make the move from high school to D3 basketball. Just a matter of working hard at recruiting. I would imagine Coach Jensen also has contacts in Indiana, another hot spot for women's basketball. Hopefan is right. After the first semester, when several players were lost to grades and injuries, the women's team really struggled. The good news is there's plenty of playing time out there for new players, which is always a good recruiting tool.

On the men's side, I have a feeling Coach Creal is already recruiting Illinois hard for players for this coming season and beyond. Because of his experience at Augustana, Illinois College, and Millikin, he has developed excellent contacts at the many high schools up and down the state. Coleman, Compton, Greene, Robertson, Long, Schmidt, and Polston provide a solid base for MacMurray, but they still need post players, a point guard (or two), and depth. Should know more about who will fill those slots in about a month, maybe sooner.

Congrats to all the recent hires at MacMurray.  Here's hoping that the institution can grow stronger and the athletic dept. will grow as well.

As for Greenville, I am looking over the refurbished HJ Long and things are looking well.  The beachers are almost in and the gym is about 85% complete.  It will be a new place, sadly I will not be able to see it packed with GC Fans & D3Hoops posters next season!  :(

Alverno must have made her an offer she couldn't refuse.....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Alverno already replaced her. Real head scratcher. Not sure how that works. If you have a signed contract, is it that easy to bail out? The good news is we're filling our coaching vacancies with young, qualified people who want to be there. Wish pantherpride06 would have gotten the SID job. At least we'd be hitting on all engines in the spot.

I doubt there's much of a buyout for a d3 AD.  Regardless, no school wants their athletic program run by someone who doesn't want to be there.

I've never had a signed contract in 15 years of employment.

I have to believe an athletic director at the college level, D3 or otherwise, would have to sign a contract. Maybe not, but I would certainly want one.

The Observation Deck

Perhaps Sue Hanson just wanted to work at a school that wasn't going under.

y_jack_lok

Interesting comment by someone who has obviously been reading this board but never posted on it before. I don't think Mac Murray is going under. I think the turn around is about to happen. Unless The Observation Deck knows something the rest of us don't know, in which case, please share.

pantherpride06

As much as i want this place to do well, it's unbelieveable what is going on. She has a little Billy D. in her.  I think the interim AD Shelley Whitaker is going to be the next that may go given the workload.  She won't be fired, she may quit.  She's the AD, Volleyball, and Softball Coach.  Unbelieveable!

I lean more towards "The Observation Deck" with this one.  They are just falling apart

I know I've criticized for having a "half full" instead of a "half empty" view of things at MacMurray, but I don't think the hiring of a men's basketball coach, a new women's basketball coach, a new football coach, and a new head trainer as a sign of things falling apart. My guess is what happened with the AD is, for whatever reason, she changed her mind. It happens, probably more often than we know. From my conversations with a member of the Board of Trustees, as well as the new president, the college is moving full speed ahead. Dorms are being updated, parking lots paved, faculty being hired, admissions office working around the clock, etc. Would like to hear the specifics on Observation Deck's comments. So would President Hester.

Another subject - any update on Foggerty's knee injury?

hopefan

Evidently FC is just having too much fun  (or working to hard - HAHAHA) down at the lake to have the time to recognize the concerns of his basketball buddies regarding Fogarty's knee    --   Hopefully his silence is not indicative of anything serious going on with Fogarty....

I'm inclined to agree with Mac Attack - I like the basketball hire - best sign of an upswing in a while at Mac.  I was not impressed with the fact that the best candidate for the job of AD was a lady from a very small, very private Catholic School for ladies - so this new second shot would seem to present an opportunity to find a better match....

Wydown Blvd.

Why the anti-female vibe? This "lady" created an athletic department. Although she isn't the best basketball coach by any means, she did an excellent job as an AD at Alverno, "lady" or not.

fcnews said earlier "Wow, again!!! No offense to womens basketball, but that is a waste of a full time position. What kind of Men's coach can they now hope to find."

They found a pretty good one in Creal even after a "lady" was picked at the helm. Although I am also wondering, like others, if Hansen is jobless now?
