Couldn't resist this one.

At one point during a game, the coach called one of his
> 9-year-old baseball players aside and asked, "Do you
> understand what cooperation is? What a team is?"
>
> The little boy nodded in the affirmative.
>
> "Do you understand that what matters is whether we win
> or lose together as a team?"
>
> The little boy nodded yes.
>
> "So," the coach continued, "I'm sure you know, when an
> out is called, you shouldn't argue, curse, attack the umpire,
> or call him a dumb-a#@. Do you understand all that?"
>
> Again the little boy nodded.
>
> He continued, "And when I take you out of the game so
> another boy gets a chance to play, it's not good sports-
> manship to call your coach to dumb to coach a mouse race.
>
> Again the little boy nodded.
>
> "Good," said the coach. "Now go over there and explain
> all that to your mother and father."

Pro Ball - We're making a big leap here aren't we. I don't think a kid playing at Mac or Lake Superior U. should have his eyes set on Pro ball. Robertson is a nice kid and very talented. But, he wasn't even the best player on last years team. It's comments like "playin pro ball" that get these kids off track of their real goal. Education

Well first off FC have you ever spoken to the kid????? Did you get to know him when he came to St. Louis and had 18 and 5 at your place, or were you at MAC when he had 21 and 6?? Did you guys chat about knitting scarves for the winter and what kind of green tea you are drinking that particular week????  NO you didnt, so dont tell me hes a great kid you guys dont know these guys personally.  Second of all just because he didnt have the best stats, doesnt mean he isnt their best player.  I think he led the team in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, second in blocks, and third in steals.  he also took the third most shots on the team.  A team that was guard heavy, and a team that didnt look to him alot, he shot 60% from the field, and he had 76 offensive rebounds which means that he had about 65 of those 145 makes off of offensive rebounds.  Thats about 45%of his points and shot attempts off of offensive rebounds.  If you guys ever actually watched him play and understood his contributions to the team you would understand he was their best player last year.  Coleman, the "POINT GUARD" led the team in shot attempts, and was second in scoring.  He also shot the worst on the entire team from the field....just in case he was the pick for the best.  Seth WHalum, who I believe you guys were talking about as an aspiring pro basketball player thinking about playing in a pro league somewhere was a 5-10 2 guard who was a co-leading scorer with Robertson, led the team in free throw attempts and makes, second in shot attempts, led the team in steals, had the second worst field goal percentage, and was second in asssits by default.    I wasnt saying that he will and should play professionally nor was I hinting at that thats why hes in school , I was just saying that a player at the D2 level had a better shot at a pro contract possibly than one at MAC.  Of course education is important, the most important, but there is hope for him if he can transition smoothly into a 3 I can see him playing somewhere.   Yes Seth  was their go to guy in the clutch.  Seth and Farrid are both great guys and I am not hating on them, but facts are facts.  Did anyone see when Robertson went down with an injury against you guys.  In 22 mins he had the 21 and 6.  From that point MAC struggled to beat MAryville at home, Blackburn at their place without Robertson.  When he was at 100%in the regular season he killed the slow footed Tarpley and Richards on Eureka.  In the tourney he was at 70%and still had 17 and 7. So now FC who is the best player on the MAC squad from last year???? You tell me since you seem to know everything about this team, who was their best player???  Huh was it Mike Jones?????

There are a lot of places to play pro ball. Doesn't have to be the NBA. Playing overseas is a great learning experience and plenty of D-III players do it.

;) Thanks Pat!!!!!  I wasnt really saying that Robertson shoul aspire to play pro i was just saying if he was willing to work hard and develope his game, he has a better chance as a D2 student athlete.  Thank you that is all.........

hopefan

Woody, I hope you're right, but I'd rather Robertson be a 19 and 10 man on a decent D3 team than a 10 and 5 man on a sub 500 D 2 team whose only fans are those that can't get tickets to the hockey games   -   no 'hate' from here, just concern from what I've seen, Robertson was in his element at Mac....., he'll have a very short time to prove himself up north..
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

I believe he may be a redshirt this year so he should do fine with the year of working his tail off.  You have to remeber his athleticism is what made him the player he was, he will still have that talent.  Yes everyone in that division is talented, but he is going to change position and get stronger and work on his overall game.  Remember that he was undersized in the SLIAC as a post, so the change to the wing will will help his chances of playing well at that level.  As for sub .500 D2, Hettinga turned a 9-16 team into a conference winner, with only one player he brought.  That guy has scholarships to throw everywhere and he is a hell of a recruiter.  His presence and coaching abilities turn them into a .500 club this year.  With a year or two  (which is when Robertson will be playing) of recruiting this team will be competing for the conference championships, or at D1 school.  As for the Hockey fans showing up because their selling out hockey games, no one goes to D2 games anyways, so the only thing that will happen is more fans will come out to watch them, just like last year at MAC.  IM OUT

Woody - Take a chill pill. This kid was 0-4 from 3's and shot 50% from the line. I just think he was a good player at the level he was competing at. And, yes I saw both games and yes I have spoke to the kid. If he redshirts and can develop some kind of outside game ( almost his entire scoring was inside 6 feet ) he is athletic enough that you never know.

In looking at the stats from the last game played against FU, the three players leaving accounted for 60 points (I beleive).

Pat I wasn't saying D3 means no pro ball. FC has had at least 2 that I can think of that went over seas and played. It takes a very special player.

FU Fan

The Feb. 10th Mac-Fu game at Mac was by far the WORST refereed game I have ever seen at any level. Mac was allowed to completely mug Fu. The crowd was allowed to threaten players on the court. If you can't beat 'em mug 'em as long as the zebra crew is either blind or afraid of the crowd. It was completely out of control. They are lucky a brawl didn't occur.

fc- i never said he could shoot threes or free throws.  I said he athletically was out of his league and he needed to work on his skills, and that would turn him into a good D2 player.  He can score outside of 6 feet also, he could shoot the 12 to 15 ft. jumper he just was unstoppable on the offensive rebound side that thats all he shot. He was so much more athletic than every player in the SLIAC thAT he didnt need to use his jump shot.  He will develope, and he will gain a jump shot, and I cannot wait to see your FC team.  Yeah and what have I been preaching my last few posts???? The 3 that left (4 if you include Whalum) were the most intrigal parts of the team and they are gone....DUH

woody-paige

That game was out of control thanx to goofy savage Storandt, who has no basketball ability, but is good at attacking people.  That was actually the game Robertson was hurt in, by one of the Gorlocks.  Which in 22 mins he had 21 and 6.  I also believe he was hurt in the first 5 minutes or so of the 2nd half, so he was on pace for a huge possibly 35 point night against a bunch of goons.

y_jack_lok

Fontbonne is the Griffins, Webster is the Gorloks. Which team was Mac playing when Robertson got hurt?

hopefan

Woody man   calling Fontbonne a bunch of goons is the first I've seen on this page of what is really 'hatin''  -  calm down old buddy - I respect your views, I certainly respect Robertson's contributions to Mac and the SLIAC  -  but this page has been friendly the last couple of years - don't turn it ugly....

sully309

Storandt has no basketball ability? I beg to differ. That guy killed us last year.

I just hope everything works out for the best for everyone involved. Robertson is showing a great bit of loyalty to his coach by transferring at this point of his college career, but will that loyalty be returned?

Calling yourself "Woody-Paige" would be great if you were entergetic and made any sort of logical statements.  Holy cow!

Hope all is well in the midwest.  Just checking in.
