Thanks for the updates, Panther. Looks like the Giffins are taking out their frustrations on the unsuspecting Highlanders.

Final from Fulton, Missouri:

Westminster 73, Greenville 59

Source says Greenville just fell apart again in the second half.  Sounds like a normal Greenville team on the road at Westminster.  Again, we've never been able to make that trip and pull it together enough to get a win in the last five, make it six years now.

Panthers look to go into the break, find themselves some big time energy and get ready for some big games when they return to the stage in 2008 with Harris-Stowe (Non-Conf), MacMurray, and Maryville.

Storandt - 4-6 7-10ft. 5 rebs. 5 blks. 15 pts. 24 mins.
Branch - 11 pts. 5-8 (1-1) 5 steals 2 asst. 0 to's 26 mins.

Fontbonne 5-15 3 pt.

Mac Murray
Compton 8 pts., Fuller 8pts., Schmidt 7 pts.
Fg% 32  3pt% 23
Mac went scoreless for I think over 5 maybe 6 mins in first half

FU's Lovette was on the bench in warm ups. he has only made 1 of the last 4 practices due a bad case with the "BUG". (dehydration)

Webster beat Lincoln Christian. I think the final was 85-63. LC's sophomore, Jon Wallace led all scorers with 30 pts. Webster's scoring was very balanced with at least 5 (possibly 6) players in double figures.

LC has some guys that can play. They are not going to be and easy win for anyone.

Oops. My mistake. Final score was Webster 91 - LC 67.

Final from BC...Maryville 67-BC-56, was a battle all the way through.  Both teams played well at times, and played poorly at time....questionable stat of the night-fouls-Maryville who played a full court pressure defense only got called for 14 fouls, while BC who plays a much less pressure halfcourt d was called for 25...BC was hurt by fouls, and also the fact that both of their big men got hurt, one had to go to the hospital to see a hand specialist, while the other rolled his ankle,  Tough loss for BC..
Sidenote from todays game....Head Coach Chandler wasnt at the game, and BC was coached by former player and current student assistant Zeb Hammond...

Halftime at Eureka...EC 28, Prin 27. It was a close score all half. Both teams came out on fire, then cooled off drastically. Darnall with 11 and Kowalski with 10 for EC. Watts has 8, Johnson 7 for Prin. The Panthers are much improved. They missed some open looks, but are doing a better job on the boards and avoiding turnovers than last year. This game will likely go down to the final minutes.

I want to send out props to Coach Creale. Hang in there. His team gave 110%. Mac is undersized for an FU team this size. Matt Schmidt played hard. Listed at 6'4 he had trouble getting any type of look. And, defenesive wise they just weren't big enough. Neil Compton ,who can put up points quick, was totally taken out of his game by Fournie. Billy Long wasn't allowed any looks from the arc, couldn't get his shot over the FU defense. Mac needs a pt. guard bad. But darn they play hard. The 20 fts. Fogerty and Storandt shot were just NBA style fouls. No harm, but you have to shoot free throws.

Coach Creale will have them playing hard. He needs a year of recruiting.

Bad moment today: #20 Fuller got under cut by Josh Branch. Six guys in the air and coming down at different times. When the whistle blew Branch was the first player to reach Fuller to see if he was okay. He landed hard and will be sore tommorrow. Thank goodness. A very ahtletic player that needs to find a spot.

I beleive with the loss of BC's bigs. FU will be able to inside / out alot of teams. But not Webster. FU needs to find a way to beat the Gorlock's.

FU played 10 players double digits. FU went 5-15 from 3's. Fewest attempts all year. 15 by 5 different players. Branch missed his first attempt at a College Dunk, and it was thaaaat close. Then he took a spot on the bench. Good game to take a shot at it. But, team rules, miss a dunk have a seat. Josh played a great defensive game.

Change in plans, no Kansas City trip because of weather, instead had to attend a very sad funeral of good friend's wife - very sad - then went down to Fontbonne in time to see fans coming out of gym, find that the Griffs had won big, then over to watch Wash U  and IWU  -  Coach Spinner sat near me diligently taking notes in preparation for Tuesday's game.  FC - your guards should pressure theirs up the court - the fewer times Wash U gets into their offense, the better.  Wash U simply doesn't have a point guard..  but in all other positions, Wash U probably has an edge.

Fontbonne could make this game interesting, but Storandt and Fogarty will have to play a lot of minutes, and play aggressive, smart defense.

Congrats to Eureka and Maryville for winning the two tossup games, and to Westmin for "holding serve" at home vs Gville.  Now it's basicly 3 weeks off with a handful of non conference games - only 2 D3 games in St Louis until league resumes on January 5  -  High School hoops anyone????
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Stat Breakdown from Westminster / Greenville Game...

Well, obviously I was not at the Greenville/Westminster Game.  I was 2042 miles away at our own game.  However, in knowing the guys at Greenville and looking at the stats, I can tell a little.

Looks like the different lied in free throws with GC shooting 4-5 and Westminster 14-22.  I don't know how the game was called but by what I understand.  Turnovers also hurt the Panthers.

As has been the trouble in the past, the Panthers have no real post presence.  Ellis (18 pts, 8 reb) had a good day down low.  But at 6-3 / 239, I'm not sure he's going to be able to bump with the big men of the SLIAC.  Williams has to get stronger or the Panthers will have move to a more high pace game.

Biggest key for the Panthers is Ellis, Cochran, and Simmons can't do it all.  Panthers had 8 points off the bench.  It doesn't look like the bench was used a ton.  But Hensold, Groves, and Wolfe have to step up of the Panthers plan on being competitive in the SLIAC.  Also, 8 TO out of your guard (Cochran) isn't going to get it done either.

Note:  Panther players reading this, don't take anything personal.  I love all you guys, just taking an assessment judging by what I know and looking at the GC/WC Stats.

Fontbonne signs another contract for 08-09 season. The Griffin's have added Chaminade on the Big Island. It will be Dec. 30.

Grinnell @ Home
Wash U @ Wash U
RHIT @ RHIT
Chaminade @ Chaminade

I hate the 8 hr trip to Hawaii with the reverse time changes. I'm trying my best to convince the powers that be @ FU, break up the trip over with a night in the state of Washington. How about a game @ UPS and a good nights sleep, "After sightseeing the Sound via Pride". Then a short jaunt to the Islands. We have an extra game because of schedule problems with Wheaton.

Would be a great trip and test for the Griffin's Senior class. It was very nice to see Trevor White back in the Dunham Student Activity Center. Trevor if you read this, hope you can make it Tuesday night. Drive safely!

Hey a drive by post by Ol' PantherPride. His UPS team knocked off another DII team.

Yes the #14 Loggers improve to 6-0 with a 121-101 win over NCAA II Cal State Stanislaus.  Game was very physical and saw four technicals and one ejection handed out.  Loggers led by Antwan Williams with 29 and Pre-Season All-American Jason Foster with 23.  Logs had four in double figures with three +20.

Following a trip to California, the Loggers hope to come back and kick of the NWC with a couple back to back games on January 4 and 5 v. Pacific (Ore). [1-3] and v. George Fox [3-2].

And yes, looking to maybe get fcnews and the Griffin crew out here for a game.  We'll have to see if we can work out all the details.  Anyone else going to come out to see a little west coast basketball in the Great Northwest?  :)

Eureka 67, Principia 58

Well, I had that one wrong.  Eureka hit Prin with a 15-0 run just after halftime and pretty much had the game in hand the rest of the way.  There was a lot of fight in the Panthers tonight though and they got within 6 with about 4 minutes to play. But the Red Devils played well down the stretch outside of a few missed free throws.  EC played better overall as a team than they did vs. Blackburn.

We were somewhat fortunate that Kyle Johnson missed quite a few from close range. Most of his shots were contested and/or altered, but he's capable of making more than he did. Chris Watts is a good player. He could shoot it a little better, but I was impressed with his game. It's obvious he has put in good amount of work this past offseason.

This game was basically even except for a 4 minute span just after the half when Prin lost focus and swayed away from their gameplan. Eureka was able to force some turnovers and got some wide open looks.

I've been able to say this 4 games in a row now...the Red Devils continue to play a little better each time out. EC has won more games this year when scoring less than 70 points than they did last season. Eureka was 1-8 last year when scoring under 70 and 2-5 so far this year.

Good comeback win for Maryville at the Beaver Dome...always a tough place to play. Sorry to hear about the Blackburn injuries. They will need all hands on deck to compete this year it looks like.

I'm very surprised at what I saw from the Mac/Fontbonne boxscore. Mac trailed 43-17 at halftime???? I hope Mac just had a really bad day because that's a big time loss.

Panther, I totally agree with you.  Seeing GC play against Lincoln Christian, I was blown away from their performance and it was a great confidence builder before Westmin.  But, that was only me believing that.  You took the words right out of my mouth about their play yesterday.  I've said it before, Greenville needs to learn to finish games!  Yes, Williams should be a much stronger player but he's too indecisive when he gets the ball.  Cochran is a freshman, I understand but on any level you have to understand it's college ball.  In high school, he may have gotten away with the turnovers but not on this level.  Yea, he can't split 3 defenders or throw fancy passes if he hasn't practiced them.  Hensold, looking at the stats I was shocked because he didn't even put up a shot attempt the whole time he was in the game.  Ellis, I'm not surprised from his performance, it's expected from him to help Greenville win games.  He's a fundamental player that gets the job done, I love how he is relentless on the boards and getting himself involved in the offense.  Cosby has been playing great then just hmm ok, he just have to hit open shots and be consistent when playing.  Well, they have a good break until their next game.  Some of the players need a reality check about what they need to do in order to better the team going into the rest of conference play.
