I'm not sure what the FU squad will have in the tank, after an emotional game on Tuesday. Or, if RMC-S will make the trip in any kind of weather.

I said to several people last Wedbesday nite, I'd much rather play them with Lee. Be nice to see were are bigs are, as upposed to just a W.

BC goes to play RHIT tuesday... RHIT is always a very well coached team which makes them a tough team to play no matter their skill level, anyone know anything about them?  Blackburn will look to get a win after losing 2 close conference games, games they had their chances and just couldnt capitilize on.

Just to throw a curveball, here's why I think Fontbonne could play with Wash U   (of course, I thought so last year too, and the game was not very close)

Matchups
McKoy Font vs Thompson Wash U    Thompson is Wash U's point guard by default  -  McKoy much quicker and could really pressure Thompson when Thompson has the ball -  but can he keep with him when Thompson is running off all the picks in Wash U offense

Branch Font  vs O'Boyle Wash U    O'Boyle was awful at point, forcing Wash u to go to Thompson - 3 point shooter only, and has shot no where near as well as when he used to come off the bench 2 years ago before last year's injury.  Branch can play at or above OBoyle level

Fournie  Font  vs Nading Wash U   Don't ask me ---, but I think Fournie is strong enough and athletic enough to hold Nading under his 19 point average.  This could be the challenge of Chad's senior year!!

Fogarty Font  vs Smith Wash U  Smith is not as strong as Fogarty - and has become pretty much just a 3 point shooter on offense. Fogarty should be able to take him inside when Font has the ball.

Storandt  Font  Vs Ruths Wash U.  It will take Justin playing outstanding defense and not getting in foul trouble to come out even in this matchup.  Just don't let Ruths have a monster game.  If Justin gets in trouble, Fogarty moves over to Ruths, Parker plays Smith.

So the matchups look relatively even to me.   That being said, Basketball is a team game, and in order to compete, Font must have limited turnovers, and get good shots. Turnovers have been Wash U's problem with Wallis  out with the injury.  Font should pressure Wash U's guards if the officiating lets them.

Right Guard  -  Rose played Fontbonne and led most of the way - but Fontbonne had a great comeback in the last 6 or 7 minutes to win on a shot around the basket with 2 seconds left.

It was an UGLY game by both teams.  Rose didn't have great size around the basket, but was very scrappy.  No individual that I can remember that would beat Blackburn singlehanded.  No super shooter, though they shot alot from the perimeter.

Blackburn could compete in this game....

Since Wash U and FU came off a much needed hiatus several years ago, the closet contest has been a 15 pt. Wash U victory last december. Let's hope this one is different.

Hopefan your posts are very confusing. ???
QuoteWash U simply doesn't have a point guard..  but in all other positions, Wash U probably has an edge.

QuoteSo the matchups look relatively even to me.

Right guard - RHIT is very patience in their screen and cut offense. They will try and run it till you fall a sleep. They are probably bigger then BC.

Save this info, since tonites game has been postponed till Dec. 19th.

Sorry my posts are confusing, FC -    I kinda covered myself by using the word probably in my first quote, and stating that I was throwing a curveball in my second statement.

I just think that with the individual matchups of starters, that one on one doesn't look toooo bad.

Who's trying to "poke fun" at him or is "counting him out"? For crying out loud, all I said was that it's a shame that he doesn't have his dad's size. It's hardly a comment upon his basketball abilities at all. The D3 world is full of great players who are 6'3 or smaller.

Grow a thicker skin, Pride, and stop trying to interpret every post as a shot at your alma mater.

First, I think it is unnecessary to make any kind of comment about someone's height and weight!
Pride made the point to show one that despite his height he was still doing more than his share of contributing, but at the same time playin the position he is he is going to be at a disadvantage when matched with bigger teams.
Neither point had anything to do with his dad! So, if we are in the SLIAC chatroom why don't we talk about the players, teams, and coaches that are IN THE SLIAC! Not there parents or their DNA which I am pretty sure you, Sager, know absolutely nothing about, so you have no right commenting on.

And if all you were trying to say was that it was a shame he didn't have the height and size of his dad, then say that.

Finally, LaPhonso Ellis is a great contribution to the Greenville Panthers. Not only does he hold his own on the court, he is also a key player off the court in keeping his team motivated and positive.

To get back to basketball.....
Greenville is heading into the Christmas break to get themselves together and get ready for Harris Stowe who has a record of 4-7. It should be a good match up for the guys and a good test before getting back into their next conference game with MacMurray.

Wow.... Are we now that sensitive that a comment merely saying, in effect, that it is too bad that a player doesn't have his Old Man's height, causes such an uproar.  Good grief!  I am with Sager on this one.  This is a forum to discuss and debate basketball related issues.  Sager was only commenting on the thoughts of that a previous poster made questioning whether Ellis' lack of height would cause him problems in the SLIAC.  And for a poster to say Sager does not know anything about SLIAC ball is ridiculous.  This is a person who has offered many credible opinions, and countless facts to this board.  I am not saying that you have to agree with him, but for Pete's sake, quit being so damn sensitive.

I would like to personally take the time to add to Sager's comment by saying that Ellis also lost on the DNA crapshoot in acquiring his Dad's basketball ability.  This is an indisputable fact.  That said, I never made any comment denigrating him as a person or a basketball player.  I am sure that will ruffle some feathers.

This makes me wonder why someone so sensitive would not just stay away from message boards.

Excuse me for saying anything or backing up a good friend of mine BunchTime.

And who said anything about sager not knowing anything about SLIAC Basketball.  It's my knowledge that he is the all knowing.

Note:  The intention of my post was not to cause an all out crisis on the board.  I merely made a statement about a comment.  Which is allowed I do believe.  I apologize if I ruffled any feathers.  Those are my opinions.

Bunchtime~ i am pretty sure you have the wrong word insensitive means that you do not show feeling or do things without regard to others

That being said I am with Panther on this. I simply am supporting Phonso knowing how things like that come off.

It should be left at the fact that he is a great ball player and a key contributor to the Greenville basketball team.

It is still unseen how is height will affect him or the game, but I will tell you this, a height difference will be only that. And I can almost guarantee that coming up against those taller guys he will perform just as well and still be as effective of a player for his team.

BunchTime

Just prior to reading your comment, Gville Panther, I edited my post after re-reading it and detecting my error.  I apologize for my typo and misuse of the word.

I do not understand your need to be so defensive.  Sager's comment wasn't a disparaging one, and it therefore should not be viewed in that context.

What's next?  People being upset that another poster makes a comment that a particular post player was undersized in a game, or if someone were to say "if he were a few inches taller, he would be a force." Afterall, we shouldn't comment on someone's height, or lack thereof.

And panther, no need to apologize. You indeed made a statement after a comment, and it is allowed.  It is also allowed to be challenged.  This is an open forum where we should debate when we disagree things.

Thanks Eureka for the comment.

Ellis is smaller than his father, true and some people are responding to the posts made towards him.  Just as I read, this is an "open forum" so posts of any kind are going to be made.  If he was taller, he'd probably slam dunk on Bunch Time and Sager, together!  Ha ha, get some laughter in here.  True, he didn't get the ability of his father, but you tell me how many players have?  Either they aren't as good as their father or they're better, if that's the case.  Well, I also know that players that are talked about on here, posters may know them personally and feel that what's being said about a certain person isn't right.  If you see posters respond a different way from something you said, make clarity of what's being said and leave it at that.  There's no need to keep talking about something that the point has already been made.  I'm clear of the situation and WILL leave it at that.
