Troy Ruth was 6-16, Nading was 2-6, Boyle was 3-10. Wash U starters played 26,27,25,26,27 mins. and Wash U. had to put their starting five back in with 5 min. to go. Good effort by the boys.

OK, Corrections and editions: I'll be the first to point out my own mistakes.

Final from the DSAC - Wash U. 73 - FU 57

FU:
McCoy - 6-10 (4-7) O ft's 3 rebs 1 a., 1 blk. 3 s.   16 pts.
Fogerty - 5-11 (0-1) 2-5 , 6 rebs., 4 steals   40 mins. 12 pts.
Storandt - 4-8 (0-0) 0-0 (No Fts.), 10 rebs. 4 assists, 3 blks., 3 steals 8pts.
Awsome defensive game.
Fournie - 5pts. 4 rebs. 35 mins. of hustle and defense

Player to watch:
Frank Sheetz - 2-2 (1-1) , 1 reb. in 5 mins. of quality time.
Lovette was again not available tonite. The man is sick.

WU:
Nading - 2-6 (2-2) 0-0, 3 rebs. 6 pts. 26 mins.
O'Boyle - 3-10 (2-6) 0-0, 4 rebs. 4 assists, 8 pts., 27 mins.
Ruths - 6-16 (0-0) 3-4, 8 rebs  15 pts. 27 mins.
Smith - 2-4 (2-3) 3-3, 4 rebs., 9 pts. 26 mins.

Thompson - 6-7 (6-6) 1-2 , 1 reb., 2a., 4 to's 19 pts., 27 mins.

WU bench 14 pts FU bench 8 pts.

Wash U has 12-2 run midway through the first half that gave them seperation.

Comments: Thompson's new nickname " The Dagger" at least 3 or 4 of his 3's were under 8 on the shot clock. And, he's a big point guard.

FU Positives: In a good Old fashion head to head FU's Storandt held his own and then some, against an All American. Ruth took 16 shots to score his 15. Storandt did not shoot a single FT ??? :o. Fournie took Nading out of his game. Back to back Mac's Compton and now Nading did not reach double digits. Good Job Chad.
Wash U sports a front line that goes 6'5,6'6 and 6'7. They don't look near as big as they did last March. FU was probably physically stronger at each spot.

Smith who had a double - double against IWU had 9 pts. 4 rebs.

Did I say Wash U. lit it up tonite 14 3's !!!

FU is in a transition and it's in the right direction. Great effort against the #12 team in the country( i think ) pre season #1

fcnews

Marty check Wash U's starters avg. mins. on their season accums. Compare that to tonites minutes.
Pretty darn close.

This does sound like a great effort by Fontbonne, and congrats to the Griffins for that. But it's not entirely accurate to characterize this current Wash U team as the preseason #1. The team that was picked for first in the country in the preseason poll had third-team preseason All-American Sean Wallis as the starting PG. Without Wallis, Wash U is still a good team -- but the Bears would've been nowhere near #1 in the preseason poll if he'd been hurt before the poll was taken.

Wow. I didn't know they had an injury. You mean Wallis, yea good attitude good kid, he'll be back. Injuries are injuries. Wash U. was #1 and now 12th. All I am saying is this effort was against one of the nations toughest.

Gregory Sager

I'm not putting down a fine performance by Fontbonne, mind you. I'm simply saying that it's misleading (not that you did so on purpose) to characterize the current Wash U team as the preseason #1. Wallis was a big, big reason why the Bears were given that lofty rank.

My bad Greg. When the two campuses are seperated by 70 feet, some things are assumed. Nading and Ruths were also a big part of that pre season ranking.

Gregory Sager

Didn't say that they weren't. I'm just saying that without Wallis, that team would not have been the preseason #1, no how, no way.

I'm really not sure what game FCnews was watching. Wash.U. gave minutes to guys who rarely get them and still won comfortably. You all are defending league champs and yet you lost by 16 on a night when Tyler Nading opted to pass on numerous occasions when he could have easily gotten to the hoop. Saying he was taken out of the game is just ridiculous. I'm not sure how a 16 point loss (and it could have been more...wu pulled its starters from the 13 minute to the 5 minute mark, then played them for about 3-4 minutes) qualifies as a moral victory for a team that made the NCAA tournament last year...just saying....

Millikin beats Eureka 67-55.

Eureka did well to keep the score this close. Without Zasada, EC simply ran out of gas with about 10 minutes to go. Beecher was in foul trouble and Millikin finally started getting the ball inside. Eureka's post defense has been pretty good this season, but they were short-handed tonight. I'm not sure how long Z will be out, but he will be missed big time for however long it is.

I think Millikin was pretty much universally picked to take last in the CCIW and maybe they will...but they have plenty enough to give some teams fits this year. They are well coached, played good pressure defense and athletic enough. I think what will hold them back is lack of muscle inside and outside shooting. After talking to a few hoops junkies afterwards, they thought Millikin wasn't quite on North Park's level, but good enough to beat them on a good night.

The Red Devils saw good games from James Kowalski, Seth McCoy, Brady Wildenradt and Matt McComb. I could probably put Brady on the list for having played a good game every time, but oh well. It will hopefully pay off in the long run to get McCoy a game where he plays 31 minutes like tonight. The main problem is he is the first sub for Beecher or Zasada, but Kowalski ended up matching up with forwards. It helped him good better looks on the offensive end, but Millikin punched the ball inside more easily too.

Millikin out-rebounded EC 41-32. I thought this was a big factor in the game and it would have been closer with a healthy Zasada. Eureka shot better from long range.  It seemed like the pressure D from Millikin bothered us more than expected. The officiating played into this style as well. Not that it was one-sided in any way, but it was a very rough game with few calls. Millikin was more aggressive and that's why they won. They would have won if it was a tighter called game too though. Thankfully, I think both teams got through it with only bumps and bruises.

It's off to Knox Friday for the last game of '07. That should be a good match up in Galesburg. It would stink to have to sit on a losing steak for 3 weeks, so here's hoping things fall our way Friday.

Marty - I'm not one to defend FCnews - usually - but YOUR comment is way off base - Fournie did a super job on Nading, to the point that Nading threw a rather flagrant elbow at Fournie to get him off him - the refs missed  it  -  I don't think Tyler went in to the IWU game looking to pass, and he was shut out in the first half of that game, and he sure as heck didn't go into the Fontbonne game 'opting to pass'-   Wash U won that game by double digits for two reasons - they shot great from 3 point range  and their defense took Fontbonne out of much of their offense.  The Muscle game, the boards, the inside game, was an even battle - virtually no offensive putbacks for Nading or Ruths.  Storandt 10 boards, Ruths 8 - Ruths 6-16 from the field  ;  Nading 3 boards, Fournie 4   Nading 2-6  late from 3point area, NOTHING inside.   Not to take away from Ruths and Nading, but to compliment Fournie and Storandt!!!!
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Chad Fournie - Has earned a lot of respect from both sides of the floor. Here is a kid who came to FU, off a season ending knee injury in is Fr. year at Juco. Chad went from 6'3 lanky kid with lots of speed. To 6'3 205 solid with speed.
Storandts - Performance was the definition of leaving it all on the floor.
Fogerty - 40 mins. of what you get. Off shooting night. But, was taking it at the Wash U. defense.

You could tell by watching the game last night that FU's bigs have been warriors also in the weight room.

For a good read. Pick up a copy of the "Fontbanner" (at the DSAC) and read the article on performance enhancing drugs on the D III level. Chad, Brian and Justin you guys did it the old fashion way. "You earned it".
