Hopefan, I ditto your sentiments regarding the Webster-Wash U game... Boy, it would be nice if they could pull the upset... FYI -- In Coach Bunch's second year the Gorloks did beat then #9 (or somewhere close to this ranking) at Wash U by 10 points.... However, I believe this game was one in which led Wash U on a downhill path and they ended up as an unranked team.... Nevertheless, a solid win against a good team!

Hopefan, is Maryville still substituting like a hockey team -- 5 in, 5 out? .... If so, I agree that most players would not like this substitution pattern especially the better players on the team... It would be hard to find a rhythm.... I wonder if this affects recruiting!  I am a believer in depth and having a team that a coach can put anyone of 10 guys out on the floor, but systematic substitutions of 5-man shifts seems rather elementary!  Just my two cents!

just got a chance to check - 66-47 wash u with 8 left  -  I see Tieman and Regan are both playing - good, was worried when they wern't in boxscore at Prin

Buncher -regarding Maryville -  not 5 for 5, though sometimes 3 or 4 in...+ many many other changes  -  some guys are playing very scared - make a mistake, you're out  -

Final was Wash U 74 - Webster 60. But it wasn't that close. Wash U had leads of 20+ throughout much of the 2nd half, after leading 38-31 at halftime.

FU Fan

Oh I agree you need 2 mules to pull most these guys out for even a minute.
You made my point.FU's guys are in pretty good shape all around physically.
BC's guys I would say " always have fries with that ".I think they tried to turn up the pace and run FU out of gas. I don't think that was a good plan. No Indian Scout on their staff ? Hammond would know. Sheetz , with his size ( although he needs a few pounds ). to do more than  just shoot. Trevor White-- not close. This is all for Fourney and if Sheetz wants to be a starter next year he had better learn to play inside the arc or he's not going to be very effective at all. Dressler can really play defensively. Why isn't someone working to get his offense up to speed ? At the end they need all cylinders firing. Rapp? Oh he's a good one SLIAC. Looking for good things from him.

Good news FU Fan. Sheetz is now work out partners with Fogerty. It will either kill him or make him a man. It's nice to walk by the weight room 2 hrs. after practice and see a half dozen Griffin's still working out. Mike Riva was partnered up with Storandt. Fournie was working out like he was a freshmen. It makes the heart proud.

Mike Riva will make his Griffin debut in a JV game thursday. Look for him to be suited up with the big boys on Saturday. The kid has been out since the second practice of the season with a stress fracture in his foot. First practice back this year and he catches a Storandt elbow. Nine stiches in the eyebrow and he's back ready for action. I like this kid already. Plus he's 6'5 + and a big frame.

Congrats to FU's PATRICK McCoy on being named SLIAC Player of the Week.

Regarding the Wash U. v. Webster game. This fan has come to the realization that Wash U. will always be a step above the teams in our conference. Could a SLIAC team beat them? It is always possible, that's why they play the game. It would take an off game by the Bears and an a perfect game by one of our top teams.

Looking at the Wash U. roster, it is void of basically any area players (one Fr. from STL). My count was they have players from sixteen different states. I couldn't come up with another DIII team that has a roster this diverse.

One thing Wash U. doesn't have is parking. Just ask Yjak. With the new construction in the old athletic facilities parking lot, there is now basically 0 parking. What a mess it will be at the Spring Track Invitational. This will have to be a concern when discussing Wash U. as a site for a NCAA tournament host.

y_jack_lok

Yes, ask me aboout parking. I parked down on Wydown Blvd and was walking up to Wash U when fc kindly picked me up. We got into the Wash U parking lots and the parking lot gods smiled on fc as there was an empty space that hadn't been there 5-10 minutes earlier when I had pulled in. This is definitely a concern when considering NCAA tournament sites.

Speaking of Wash U  -  I noticed in box score that Danny O'boyle didn't play yesterday - the guy that replaced him has rarely played, and is a definite drop off - their backcourt is really hurting if O'Boyle is gone for any significant amount of time.  (As if losing Wallis wasn't enough of a hit)

FC, I would not mind arguing regarding your recruiting statements, but you get so mad so quick, that I'm afraid to...
Let me just point out that it's a strong likelihood that with a rare exception, every kid that plays for an HCAC team is from Indiana, every kid that plays for Ill Wes, Millikin, Elmhurst, etc is from Illinois, every kid that plays for Hope, Albion is from Michigan.  Having a wide recruiting base does not necessarily = greater success.  I fully believe that Wash U's recruiting success comes from academic reputation - Most, if not all of these guys likely contacted Wash U as a potential college, THEN were recruited by the basketball staff.  I don't believe their staff travels the country looking for prospects as Div 1 schools do.

Don't get me wrong, I understand what you are saying, but I believe the crucial necessary step for SLIAC hoops to get better is to better sell itself to the 50 or 60 schools in the Suburban/Metro Catholc/GAC/4 rivers/ABC conferences, and convince kids to play here rather than the NAIA schools or going to Mizzou and not play at all.

Oh FC - Happened to run into the big redheaded kid from Eureka - he's at Rolla - AND STARTING!!!!

so games tomorrow...

Fontbonne @ Eureka; Greenville @ Maryville; Westminster @ Mac; Blackburn @ Webster

I will go to Maryville, I assume FC will be up at Eureka and Yjak at Webster - guys, keep the phones open!!!  FC pass on info to EC SID.  Too bad Mac Attack isn't around, we'd have all bases covered.

Westmin should do in Mac, though it's a long trip and that plays into it.  Noticed Mac's Compton showed as a starter in Saturday's game, but with 0 minutes - hurt immediately????  Great stats vs Lincoln CC for Westmin perimeter players.

Blackburn @ Webster  -  should be a wide margin Webster win... how will BC stop Webster's inside game, much less Webster's running.

Fontbonne @ Eureka  -  this game could be good - again, a long trip, tired bodies could impact the outcome.  Eureka impressed me with good shooting against Maryville - they'll need the same vs Font - still the matchups don't look too onesided, and Eurka's bench did a nice job vs Maryville.  Fontbonne should win, but an upset wouldn't shock me  -  McComb - McKoy matchup is a good one....

Greenville @ Maryville - Two leading contenders for the 4th spot in playoffs go at it -  I would have said that Maryville has a distinct size advantage and should dominate around the basket, but if they continue their 3 point barrage, that advantage is out the door.  Greenville's perimeter players are experienced and good shooters - they should be able to handle Maryville's pressure D  -  comes down to shot selection by MU - if good, they should win, but if they throw up 40 3's like last Game, Greenville should come out on top.
Panther, if your number hasn't changed, I'll text you too....

Hopefan - I know for a fact that Wash U's staff does not travel nationally. Edwards gets a ton of requests to come play at Wash U. every year. Any, good player looking to go into Law, medicine, ect.., would love to play at Wash U. That's why I'm saying their roster will always be full of kids from everywhere.

Also, I know you see alot of H.S. ball. The few games I've seen are painfull. Is area H.S. basketball just down or is it just me. And, I'm not talking the Griffey's and Suggs, ect.

hopefan

I'm a postin' fool today!!  Just noticed Parker did not play for Fontbonne out in California, and the Fontbonne-Blackburn box is not yet out on the net -  will he be playing Saturday, or is out with the bum ankle, or is he gone for the season???   Help us out FC

The number has not changed.  I'll be sitting here waiting to get the updates.  Do we have Saintcast for Wednesday Night's game?  Schedule says so.  I'll be listening.

If Greenville can play like they did Saturday with going inside out and working Ellis, "Take me" Home, and Cosby, the Panthers should be in good shape!!!

GO PANTHERS!

At this time all I know about Cartez is that he has taken a personal leave from the team. This was a confidential discussion with Coach McKinney and I am not privy to any other info.

Pride - Have a safe trip to Nashville.

Regarding the road trip to Eureka. The schedule worked out well for the Griffin's. With school still not in session, the bus will leave at noon. This will put us up there about 3:30. The women will have time to relax a little. The men will stretch and then go to a team dinner before preparing for the game.
