Hilarious comments from Hopefan in regards to the Webster/Greenville game  ;D

I think that game will go down to the wire with Greenville winning. It's been a dubious schedule to say the least, but I believe GC has won 4 in a row at home. And from looking at recent stats from Webster I see some warning signs. Now, I should mention I haven't seen either team play this year, so I'm only going off scores and stats. That's always dangerous!

I look for Fontbonne to handle Maryville as long as they keep their turnovers in check. I know Maryville somehow put 51 on the board in a half against Greenville, but I don't see them being able to score enough to beat a team like Fontbonne. They will need to keep Font below their average of 82 points/game they are averaging.

Westminster only allowed 7 points in the 2nd half to Prin tonight? Ouch! I guess I don't feel so bad about EC only getting 52 on the board against Westmin Saturday. The Jays are allowing a 37% field goal percentage against them in SLIAC play. Not too shabby.

Seth, I remember that tournament game very well...thanks for bringing it up again  :). But seriously, I thought all along last year you guys had the best team. Coach Bruer can attest to that because I kidded him about it everyday to the point he thought I was leaving my job to work at Mac the next year. That was a shellacking you put on us in Jacksonville last year...definitely our worst loss. It was great to see schools like Mac and Eureka represented at the tourney last season since we rarely have teams advance to the tourney in other sports. Hopefully those days will return sooner rater than later.

NOTHING worth taking back on anything said about Mac and Seth last year - Gem, you are welcome to review any statements made at that time.

1)  Mac's athletic dept and basketball program was clearly a mess at that time.  --witness the mass exodus.

2)  Any thing I questioned regarding Seth's eligibilty was based on the fact that I had come up with a box score that indicated that Seth had played in a game his frosh year - I asked Mac Attack and Seth about it on these pages and NEVER got a denial - and still haven't. If the NCAA ruled that that brief appearance would not account for a year's eligibility, so be it.  If the box score was in error, it would have been easy enough for Seth to say that... he did not.  Mac Attack was the one who said Seth was eligible, and I could not take that as gospel at the time as he was a zealous Mac supporter.

3)  I never disrespected Seth in any way - rather I praised his game throughout the season

4)  Seth's words in his posts of the last two days shows his appreciation of the posters on this site - for the most part, it is the only publicity these guys get.

I have to agree with hopefan on the Seth Whalum issue. If that information -- a letter from the NCAA saying he had another year of eligibility -- was available when all that posting was going on, why didn't someone just say the letter existed. It suggests to me that this letter was sought and obtained after, and perhaps because of, the controversy in all those posts.

Guys, I don't think Seth was on here looking for apologies. In person and on this site he seems like a very intelligent young man. His statement about his eligibility was not to make any poster apologize. He was just clearing up some things that were not cleared up at the time.

Give the guy credit for posting on here his opinions and concern about his former program. It was not an I told you so type of statement.

FC  -  Seth wasn't looking for an apology, Gem Shooz was....

and in reality, I'm amazed more former players don't come on this site to chime in and agree or disagree with what we posters have to say - they are the ones who know best and I know could add some GREAT insight to this board - to my knowlege only Seth and Bunchtime fit into that catagory and everything they have written over time has been worthwhile and revealing....

I am afraid that I confused pantherpride. I do not post often and have evidently not mastered the art of showing a previous quote and then responding to it. I meant to show only hopefan's quote about someone going to Greenville, but my response came out also inside the quote box with his quote, leading to confusion. I was addressing it to hopefan, saying that Yjak and furbug would indeed be at Greenville tonight. It came out reading like Hopefan, Yjak and furbug would be at Greenville. Not true - Hopefan will be elsewhere, at another game, as he previously said.  :-\

Thanks, Pat. I'll try that. Also I suppose that previewing it first will help.

That was what I was trying to say, Hopefan.

oh brother, student attendance might push 80 rather than 40.....

There probably are near as many cheerleaders for Maryville as there are student fans....

Last week when the cheerleaders  threw out mini red basketballs to the fans on the one side of the gym, I think virtually any fan who tried to get one, got one!!!!
Unfortunately the old fudds (me and Coach Myers) were on the opposite side!!!!

Wow.  Looks like Fontbonne just slid by Maryville 60-57.  Fogerty picks up a double-double.  I'd love to hear the banter about this game.

As for Greenville, not quite the game I'd like to see (judging by the 79-56 score)

Eureka comes back from a double digit deficit to BEAT Mac in Double OT  -  Yjak, sorry for giving a prelim win for Mac, to you....

The Font MU game was what I ordered  -  game decided when Maryville's last second 3 pointer dropped off the rim at the buzzer -  lots to write about - tomorrow.

Greenville played hard the entire game against Webster. Pressure defense from start to finish. They are a well disciplined team, worked hard to get shots,  just couldn't hit enough from outside and the rims were not kind to them -- or to Webster for that matter. (Those rims are tight and balls that aren't dead center are likely not to fall if they hit the top of the rim.) Greenville's players are also in good shape and didn't show signs of being tired until just before the game was turned over to bench players from both teams. Webster also played hard and well and hustled the entire game and were able to make shots and get some buckets in transition. It was a fun game to watch even if it wasn't a nailbiter.

The gym looks terrific. Nice bleachers, new (or refinished) floor, new paint all over. Very nice job.
