unbelievable - what a shame for Fontbonne -

Let's hope McCoy can come back for Webster game, but ---- better to have him healthy for conference tourney if necessary to miss two more weeks...

lot of fun texting the scores back and forth last night - several in the Webster crowd were extremely anxious for the FC-GC updates!!

The fouls called and not called at the end of the game gave the Beavers no chance at tieing or taking the lead in the final seconds. It seemed that the refs were more concerned about the fans then the actual game. When they were watching the game, slaps to Macs players wrists drew whistles yet when the BC players bodies were being tossed to the floor, their were no calls to be heard.

I don't know what game you were watching.  MacMurray played a pretty good game, and one of the only reasons Blackburn was able to come back in the game was because of the officiating.  I dont know what calls you were talking about with the "slaps to Macs players wrists."  I dont recall seeing any of those, but if your looking for excuses maybe it was the perimeter defense Blackburn played.....

and I believe most people in here will agree that going to Blackburn and getting a win hasnt always been the easiest thing to do.....The intentional foul at the end of the game wasnt necassary but you cant blame the game on that.  There was 3.7 seconds left and MacMurrays ball when they were up by 2 already....The game was in pretty good control in my opinion! :)

Often around this time discussion starts about all-conference teams. I'm not going to get that started, but I am thinking about Newcomer of the Year and want to put in a plug for Webster's Luke Niebrugge. He has started all 17 games, is averaging 23.2 minutes per game (third highest on the team), is shooting 55% from the field, 53% from 3 point range, has a positive assist to turnover ratio, plays great defense, hustles from start to finish, and has taken so few bad shots this season that it's hard to remember even one. Many of his misses are when he has gotten fouled hard driving in for a layup.

Other candidates out there?

fcnews

No. But I got two early candidates for next season!!!

hopefan

Agreed regarding Yjaks assessment of Niebrugge, BUT

when a player is fouled during a shot attempt, statistically it is not a shot attempt, unless it goes in - I'll take an expert's correction, but I believe that is correct

I stand corrected -- except for those instances where there was contact that could have been called a foul, but wasn't.

I was simply amazed that hopefan didn't see it until it was safely (by 1 foot maybe) past the front of the car. I saw it coming from the side of the highway. Time to see the eye doc, hopefan.  ;D

Hopefan, do not be concerned about this. I probably would not have seen the fox either. Yjak has unusually good peripheral vision. I have noticed it during basketball games. He seems to be able to take in the entire floor with all that is going on. When I miss something, I just ask him, and he knows.  :D

I also agree about Luke Niebrugge - a great asset to the team this year, chooses his shots well and often makes them. He also brings the ball down very quickly.

I should've been more clear on the fouls being called..thats my mistake. I wasn't meaning to comment on the amount of fouls being called and against who but more of the timing of the calls had a very big part in the outcome of the final minutes. I'm not taking anything away from Mac because they did play very well and the shooting was amazing to watch.
The officiating in the 1st half played no part because when anytime shoots as well we Mac did, theirs not much else to do but try to play better defense and guard the perimeter...but in the 2nd half the refs definitely did tighten up on the officiating and instead of letting the 2 teams decide the final outcome, the refs helped influence it. Just an opinion..not a statement...nothin personal but aggrivated fan. ;)
Go Beavers!

y_jack_lok

Excellent point furbug makes about bringing the ball down quickly. As furbug and hopefan know, one of my pet peeves is with guards who employ the 9 second stroll to get across the mid court line.

Furbug  -  quicker than Turk, right?   ;D ;D

Right! But Turk sure does make up for that in other ways, doesn't he? And he seems to be really studying that defense as he brings it down, gets absorbed with that rather than speed. Scott Spinner use to take a long time also. I think that the Niebrugge approach is a lot easier on our nerves.  :P
