A very strange boxscore put up by the Saints yesterday. Fifty percent of their shots from behind the arc (6-34). This from the worst 3 pt. shooting team in the conference. A good IL. player like Jared McCoy doesn't even get a field goal attempt in 20 minutes of clock. Holland 0-3 from the field and only 18 minutes. Worst stat, 18-31 from the charity stripe. Thats the ball game. Interesting game plan for a big game. Hopefan, your as close as we have to a MU insider, any ideas?

Also, No blog. ???

Quote from: hopefan on February 03, 2008, 11:29:37 AMPoint 2  FC  hard to get to worked up regarding D3 recruiting in the middle of the SLIAC season  -  that enthusiasm is usually reserved for the post season.  However, I will say what came to mind was this could be what Fontbonne needed for an immediate replacement for Fournie. If he can make the quick adjustment from HS to D3, and I assume he has that typical tough nosed Lisch mentality, it could be the icing on the cake.

Now then, this is the kind of kid who could play very well in the SLIAC  -  he plays on a big school team and is a good player  -  his stats however, are clearly not the stats of a D1 player.  They don't seem to match up with the description that TQ found for us...
he averages 9 pts per game, shoots 50% from 2, 33% from 3, 43% overall....  80% from the line, but only 2 attempts per game,  51 turnovers vs 36 assists, but 37 steals.
The intrinsics are the best stat, he's in a basketball family and knows how to play, and what it takes to win  -he will be great for the Fontbonne program

Remember, that list I provided yesterday was done in January of 2007 - it was a ranking of top juniors in Illinois at the time.  I don't have access to the full Chicagohoops.com Class of 2008 rankings (I'm not a subscriber), but the following site does not have Lisch ranked at all, while those other players I mentioned (the Wash U recruit and the D2 guys) are...

http://illinoishsbasketball.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=1

Disclaimer - these player rankings (there are several sites) are all pretty good at the top with the major D1 guys, but the accuracy becomes suspect as you make your way down the list.  Every year these sites miss all kinds of good players.  Lots of politics involved!

Here is the same site's Class of 2007 ranking with the D3 guys noted below...

http://illinoishsbasketball.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=1

65. Sean Johnson (IWU) - starting 2-guard
89. Travis Rosenkranz (IWU) - starting point-guard
90. Marco Macias (Elmhurst) - primarily a JV player this year
92. Bruce Durham (North Park) - was starting PG but has left NPU

The #100 guy, Eric Hobbie from Vandalia, is a better than the D3 guys he's ranked below as well as several of the low D1 and D2 recruits.  He is having a huge freshman year at McKendree.

a win for Maryville would catch them up to Greenville.

Maryville (6-4) is already ahead of Greenville (5-5) in the standings.

fcnews

Wow, tough weekend on our neighbors across Wydown Blvd.

hopefan

Furbug and others Here is a rundown of remaining games and proposed winners - showing why Maryville (and Eureka) are behind Greenville, though their current record indicates different...

Remember the premis that GC, MU and EC are playing for fourth, and that expectations were (are) that they would lose to top 3 teams Westmin, Webster, and Font,   that they would win at home against middle teams competing for fourth, and that they would beat bottom 3

So far that has rung true EXCEPT GC beat Westmin..

so GC is 5-5, but in remaining games they have :
Webster and Font    expected losses
BC and Prin    expected wins
and both EC and Maryville at home  expected wins
FINISH expected 9-7

MU  is 6-4   they have :
Webster, Font, Westmin   expected losses
AT  GC  expected loss
Mac and Prin  expected wins
FINISH expected  8-8

EC  is 6-4   they have :
Westmin, Font, Webster  expected losses
AT GC   expected loss
Mac and BC  expected wins
FINISH expected  8-8

This is why EC at GC  and MU at GC are critical, as the win at home by EC over MU.   AND why I refer to GC as having a 1 game lead over both EC and MU

And while I won't get into details, yes FC, i noticed all in the boxscore of the MU-EC game - unbelievable how MU could play a second game like that vs EC - I can only credit EC defense for forcing MU into an offensive pattern that I sincerely hope Coach Rogers didn't want...

Hopefan - Any comment on my post regarding MU's Saturday boxscore? Like I said, by default, your as close as we have to a MU insider.

hopefan

FC  -  note my last paragraph...   that is my comment regarding the boxscore  ...  I seem to get into hot water with everyone if I make pinpointed negative observations, so I won't.  I was VERY disappointed when I saw that box score..  Coach Roger's blog, which came out later than normal, is 'interesting' reading - and heightened my disappointment in the result.....

My bad Hopefan. Didn't notice the bottom line of text.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHOUT OUT - Bunchtime turns  ??? today. It's all downhill from here kid!!!!

No, Hopefan. No! No! No! I cannot buy into that convoluted set of permutations. You cannot come up with that number of "expected losses" and "expected wins" to draw the conclusion that you do, that Greenville is ahead of Maryville. Look, undefeated Webster just had a very close call against 1-win Principia. Anything can happen, and in fact, the expected is indeed that not all of "expecteds" will happen. SO - you have to go with what is "in the bank". Maryville has 6 wins out of 10 games - count 'em. Greenville has only 5 wins out of 10 games - count 'em also. Maryville is ahead of Greenville - period.  ;) ;D

hopefan

where is the "fearless prognosticator" in you, Furbug? ;D

Hopefan,

OK, so you want fearless prognostication? Look at furbug's post on the women's page.  :o

BunchTime

Thanks FC.  Not downhill; I am just beginning the climb uphill  ;D

Furbug - That's not going out on a limb. The womens game at FU was a 6 point game at FU. ???

furbug

Good point, FC. Webster played quite well in coming back from a bigger deficit in that previous FU game. Their play deteriorated, however, mostly in conference away games after that. They played quite well Sat. against Principia, however, with better use of bench players. Still, it is the best I can come up with right now to fulfill Hopefan's request for a fearless prognostication.  ;)
