J_clem, thanks for being the voice of the Gorloks for us.  As a follower of Webster from afar, it makes it nice when I am able to listen to the games.  The broadcast is about what I expect.  By no means am I expecting some professional rendition of game calling, but I think you guys do a nice job with what you have to work with.  Thanks again!

As the news clip of Webster indicates, the current trio of seniors are 44-10 thus far in their conference career.  That is pretty impressive.  Kudos to not only the seniors, but also to Coach Bunch and Coach Siener for making Webster a yearly contender.  It would be nice to get back to the NCAA Tourney and send these seniors out on a bang!  Lots of ball left.  Should be an exciting finish for all!

You are very welcome BunchTime.

I was not aware of the great success the seniors had in the past. It was a good story.

I wonder, what are your predictions for the team record while the 4 Freshman are on the squad.. (Meeh, Trippett, Jones, Restoff)

Wow, that is difficult question to answer.  I would hope that all the freshman can replicate the success of this teams current seniors in conference play.  My hope is that Webster can start contending with some of the top tier teams from other conferences as well.  They have definitely progressed in the right direction and I know Coach Bunch shares my goal as well.  And perhaps most importantly, I want to see Webster get to the tourney and win a game!  Lofty goals, yes I know, but it has to start somewhere and Webster is trying to raise the bar!

Well, already 0-1.  Puget Sound loses 93-82 to Linfield with a huge chance to take a big lead in NWC play.

Sorry I haven't posted on the Eureka/Blackburn game...it's been a tough week. Anyway, EC won 69-53. That's about as benign as a game can be for EC at the Beaver Dome. Normally, the Red Devils get Blackburn's best game down there, but that was not the case this time.

Beecher scored a career-high 14 points and Zasada had 18 boards.  McComb had 16 to lead EC. It's great to chalk up a road win and move on. Tough schedule remaining with the top 3 squads (2 on the road) and also Greenville away from home.

Big win for Westminster at Maryville. That should cement the Blue Jays' spot in the tournament, if in fact it was ever in question.

Big game Saturday between MU and Greenville. A Panthers victory helps EC in many ways.

I was unaware that Fontbonne and Webster had another game scheduled for this season. It's not posted on the SLIAC site. Can someone clear this up for me?  ???

(O.K. before anyway thinks I'm being serious...I know they COULD meet in the tournament, but let's not assume that will happen please. That elitist thinking doesn't sit well with the rest of us)

You know, Fc got contemplative, and I guess got rubbed the wrong way by Pat and Greg, and now apparently will go on hiatus - poor timing FC, because as you point out, the next 3 weeks still offers a lot of fun leading up to the conference playoffs, and this place is great for discussion of those happenings.  As you have said FC, many people read our ramblings and are entertained and enlightened - your writings, and temper tantrums will be missed is you leave us for long...

BUT, FC's contemplations led me to also wonder aloud... why am I such a one of a kind?   Why do I seem to be the only one around here who enjoys D3 hoops for the game it is, for the kids who play, for the thills that it brings me...  (Without having a rooting interest for any particular team).  I see many like me at high school basketball tourneys, sitting in a section of their peers, evaluating this kid and that kid, this coach or that coach, studying the bracket of a 16 team tournament...  but NEVER anyone like me, going to Webster one night, Maryville the next, Wash U the next, Fontbonne the next...Just to see the kids play hard, looking for the most competitive game available.  It's so disappointing to me that so few around here have a passion for the game, the competition...  FC, has it, Yjak has it, Furbug has it, but they each are so tied to their individual favorite teams that they sometimes view the game differently than a neutral observer like myself.  That's not a bad thing - I experienced that for years with Hope, then for a while with Wash U, even with Maryville.  But it's so much fun to go to a game these last couple of years and truly not worry about who wins, but rather how the game was played.  That's why I have a horrid taste for people in the stands who do nothing but gripe about the officials, or this year, a bad taste for a particular coach who seems to be going overboard with his actions at screaming at his kids....those kinds of things take away from where the focus should be - the competition on the floor.

Nicely said, Hopefan. While anyone who reads CCIW Chat knows that I am very passionate in my support of my alma mater's team, in an important sense some of the most enjoyable basketball experiences for me happen when I go to another Chicagoland gym to see a D3 game that doesn't involve NPU. Taking in a game as a neutral observer has a lot to recommend to it. It's easier to appreciate a particular game for what it is, and particular players and coaches for who they are (and the officials, too!), when you're able to set your passions aside and just enjoy basketball for its own sake.

Nice game for Webster freshman Robbie Meeh who came off the bench in the first half and was instrumental in getting Webster to a 39-29 halftime lead -- both scoring and rebounding. He continued his excellent play in the 2nd half. Haven't seen a box score yet but I'm positive he scored in double figures and may have rebounded in double figures as well. Enjoyed chatting with his dad off an on throughout the game. A very nice gentleman.
