In the interest of my being consistent on a particular point, Webster's 17 game conferennce winning streak is a REGULAR SEASON streak. I have pointed out repeatedly that the Maryville women's 73 game streak is aslo a REGULAR SEASON streak. The MU women lost to Webster in the conference tournament championship game in 2005. The Webster men lost in the semi-finals of the conference tournament last year to Fontbonne.

I think my point in this is that tournament games are conference games, just not regular season. I think these winning streaks need to be described as exactly what they are, regular season streaks. To me, ommiting those words gives a false impression of what that record is.

Yet, every definition of "conference games" includes only regular season. To say "regular season conference winning streak" is redundant. That's why we don't say it that way. Everyone understands what a conference game is -- they are the ones listed in the conference standings.

If you wanted to give a false impression, you'd be saying "streak of wins against conference opponents" instead of "streak of wins in conference games."

I stand corrected. The Webster men have won 17 consecutive conference games and the Maryville women have won 73 consecutive conference games.

Excellent article in this morning's Post Dispatch Sports Section featuring Brad Robinson and Ryan Turk of the Gorloks. They even spelled Gorloks right. ;D

Thanks for the link Y_Jak.  It was a very good article.  It is nice to see Webster appear in the news.

Big win for the Blue Jays today at Eureka.  Westminster fought through a poor shooting first half and won the rebounding game and got a lot of loose balls.  Good hard nose win on the road for WC, showed some toughness today at Eureka.  Looks like Wednesday nights game will be a big one for the second place battle against Fontbonne but I guess if these two teams stay in 2nd and 3rd it wont matter.

I think Webster would have to lose out and WC would be the only team with a chance left to take over first?  They've lost once to WU and would beat them once.  But I don't see Webster collapsing like that....

Panthers pick up a big win at Blackburn, keeping them in the hunt for the SLIAC Championship Tournament.  Wednesday night will be HUGE as the Red Devils head back to Greenville to face the Panthers.  Last season, the teams were in a similar situation where the game was for the fourth place spot.

Hopefully Greenville comes out on the winning end.  :)  thoughts tomorrow as I am in Spokane, Wash. with our mens team looking to wrap up the NWC tonight.

Good all around effort by Webster today. From watching the game I'd have said rebounding was one of the main differences, and the box score bears that out. Robinson was especially huge on the boards with 15, plus 11 points. Another nice game for Doug Stiegemeier. He missed his only "official" 3 point attempt, but one of his 2s was a fraction of an inch from being a three. Perhaps they should institute a 2 1/2 point shot :). Billy Long hit some Looong 3s for MacMurray. A very impressive shooter.

That Justin Myers
Great player huh?
2.6 pts./game
I sure hope he can find another conference to play in.
His style of play really represents that good attitude.
We need more like him when we start playing football.
Only this time the opposition can return the punishment.
Hope to never see that or him again.

FU Fan, I heard what hapened. Hope Brian is o.k. Basaed on what I was told, I think Myers should be asked to turn in his uniform.

FU Fan

NO -----TOLD TO TURN HIS UNIFORM.
The conference needs review film and remove this player.
I know a ex defensive end/linebacker who would love to see that guy with the ball in his sights  on a football field.
I have never seen anything remotely like this on a basketball court.

y_jack_lok

Yes, TOLD to turn in his uniform is much more appropriate. The more I hear about this the more it makes me think additional action of some kind is warranted.

Big congrats to Webster as they clinched at least a share of the conference title with the win over MacMurray.  Webster has now won the conference title 3 of the last 4 years.  Coach Bunch and staff continue to build Webser into a consistent winner and deserve a lot of credit.

Also, if Webster were to win out, which would put them at 22-5 (including SLIAC Tourney), what do fellow posters think of their post-season chances in terms of seeding?  Again, this is a big if, but definitely within the realm of possibility.  Also, would this give them a shot at being nationally ranked come tourney time?  I know that rankings mean little since the Tourney is really all that matters, but it would be nice if the Gorloks could achieve the first national ranking in the history of its program (and maybe first ranking of any SLIAC Men's team).
