Furbug - thanks for keeping the conversation going - it was fun to analyze the remaining possibilities.

A couple of other things...

FC had written a series of posts yesterday, one or two that I wanted to generate some discussion with, but they all disappeared?  FC, I thought you were back, but you changed your mind?

SLIAC man, I like your all conference teams - one definite difference is I would have Fournie on the first or second team - in place of anyone on the 2nd team, possibly in place of Compton, Buxton, or Turk (I personally saw him shut down Turk and Buxton) on the first team.  The only player I haven't seen this year is Johnson of Prin, so wonder how he compares to Hoggit - all the others you mention seem legit to me, and your pecking order is solid too.  We think alike on this one!!!!

Why is everyone talking about a coss toss between Fontbonne and WC?  Who really cares?  It doesn't matter as both teams are already locked to play one another, and neither team is the SLIAC Champ.  Therefore, who cares who is second or third.

Also, there has to be some changes about this coin flip ordeal.  It is inconceiveable that a berth into the conference tourney is determined by a coin toss.  Coaches, players, and fans alike should demand that this policy be changed.  I cannot imagine any coach liking the idea that their season is determined by this ridiculous method.

Thanks for the clarification furbug.  I now see why people were talking about a coin flip between FU and WC.  I am also done on the subject.  It is one of the biggest jokes I have seen in quite some time, and it looks as if the coin toss may happen.  I am just happy that Webster has sealed up their spot as the #1 seed.

For our sake, I hope we pick heads! ;)  Pending it comes to that.

Pretty exhausting trying to keep up with the great analytical minds of furbug and hopefan on this potential coin toss.  :D Almost as exhausting as reading those needling back and forths we used to see from fcnews and hopefan.  ;D Somehow, I haven't learned my lesson. I was sitting between fcnews and hopefan today at the Wash U - NYU men's game. It was just like it used to be reading this board, except I got to hear it.  ;D If I'd been smart I'd have moved to one side and let them have at it while I watched the game.  :) But I was afraid to move for fear of what they might have done to each other if I hadn't been between them. ;D  ;D

Furbug, I fear we may have put our fellow SLIAC posters to sleep with our 'deep' analysis of playoff permutations - here it is the biggest week of the year for SLIAC fans and nary a post!!!

I'll be at Fontbonne-Greenville, Yjak and furbug will be at Webster -Westmin, and I'll be in touch with Maryville - the texting / messages will be flying.

Another comment - while FC is full of pro Fontbonne opinion, he did bring up one excellent point to me that I buy - Fontbonne injuries are healed, the guys that were out have gotten game time to recover, they should be peaking for the conference tourney.  I think they can be considered a real threat.....  Can't wait till Thursday, even moreso if the 4 seed goes to Maryville, who is capable of upsetting any of the top 3.....

The Daily Dose today mentions the Gorloks. It is a take on nicknames. They also mention Griffons, I wonder if they are any relation to FU's Griffins. ???

Well, I was feeling sympathetic for you until this. Try an e-mail instead of a back-biting post on a board I might not read for days.

I assumed that there was a school with this mascot name (Griiffons). The question marks where for which school it was. And since when does Fontbonne or myself need your sympathy. We're doing just fine. Back biting, I'm puzzeled by that statement.

transitive verb   : to say mean or spiteful things about (as one not present)

Griffon is a type of dog, a collection of breeds of originally hunting dogs. There are three recognized lines of the griffon type (FCI), the griffon vendéens, the wirehaired pointers, and the smousje (Belgian companion dogs). The griffon type is characterized by rough or wire hair.

Also, You might want to check the Missouri Western State mascot.

Your comments were not needed. I did not in any way question your writing abilities. There was not a harsh word written to warrant your attack. It was an honest question about the relationship of a Griffin to a Griffon. I am not aware of all DIII mascots. There wasn't even a comment made in your direction

Your sympathy comment disgusted this fan.

I ditto Hopefan's sentiment about Maryville.  They will be a very tough #4 seed and a tough game for the Gorloks which was evidenced by Webster's 1 point victory over the Saints a few weeks ago.  Coach Roger's will have his guys ready to go.  As I have said previously, I predict Maryville will get the nod.

I think it goes without saying that anything can happen come tourney time.  It should be an excellent tourney.

Although tomorrow's game is meaningless for the Gorloks in terms of seedings or standings, it is an opportunity to run the table in conference while also achieiving the illustrious mark of 20 wins.  I am confident that Coach Bunch is preparing his troops and telling them that they cannot simply show up and win.  It is always a legitimate fear when a team has won so many consecutive games.

Well, if you weren't intending to be sarcastic and backbiting, you should avoid a type of construction that is most often sarcastic and backbiting.

"Griffon, wonder if that's related to GRIFFIN."

Wow, what a response. It is the only icon with a question mark. I'm not an english major and I did not know it was required to post. It was a question. I had a friend who attended Mo. Western and always wondered. I will refrain from asking questions, for fear of intent.

And even with proof of thought, what a response.

Somebody ring the bell and send these guys to their corners.  Get fcnews and Pat some water.  I'll be the referee.  Hopefan & Y_Jac, you can be the cut men and BunchTime & furburg can be the managers.

Holy cow!

fcnews, are you guys going to let us get a win on Tuesday so we can be the team to knock off Webster in the first round like everyone else has the past few years?

Bunchtime, I'm just kidding about beating you guys.  My money is on you guys to win it (IF i was a betting man.)

I couldn't agree more that this coin toss thing is a joke.  How does a conference rely on a flip of a coin to determine who enters the conference tourney?  Imagine telling your team after battling all year that "sorry fellas that I picked heads, we're out, but good effort."  Seriously, you play 16 games to have it come down to a coin toss.  Wow.  Something has got to change.  Like Hopefan said, let the teams play on Wednesday night.  I am quite certain that the deadlocked teams would much rather potentially play 3 games in a row than have their season determined by a quarter.  If nothing else, and if the SLIAC doesn't allow the teams to agree to the deal, meet at a gym, wear practice gear and play to 20 and the losing team calls the SLIAC and defers to the other team.  I know this sounds a bit ridiculous, but anything is better than winning or losing a bid based not on merit, but on the luck of coin toss.  That was my rant of the day.
BT - not picking on you but your post contains most of the points other shave put up seperately

Several conferences (CCIW does, for example) have a coin toss as a "final option".  There are just so many scenarios you can work through.  At some point you simply run out of options (or the options get too complex); and, a coin toss at least has fair odds.

SLIAC Commissioner did not make the decision to institute a coin flip.  He/she is an employee, makes a recommendations, operates and administrates the conference based on the SLIAC organization guidelines (which I just read) that the majority of your conference's Administrative Council ("consisting of the athletics directors, senior woman administrators, and faculty athletic representatives - three representatives from each member institution" approved based upon a recommendation from its Sport Committee ("Head coach of respective sport at each member institution").

If a coach has to tell the team maybe the coach gets lucky and the AD, Faculty Rep or college's President - called the coin flip!   ::) :o

Major power outage on FU campus. They are hoping to get it back up at some point tomorrow. Would be a shame for the GC game to be postponed till Wednesday nite. It would have a major effect on the conference tourney, because I seriously doubt any coach would risk injury to his starters the night before the conference tourney. There is your wish possibility Pride.

I will tell you one thing. It is really hard to enjoy sliac converstion on this site this year. And that's a shame considering FU is having their best year since '94. We have about 3 or 4 schools covered with regular posters. Where is Daryll Lloyd when you need him. Oh yea, he hung it up back on page 165.

Pat Coleman was not man enough to retract his "sympathetic" statement when given the oppurtunity. Under his name it says Administrator. Not Moderator, Narrator or even "Save by the Bell" english teacher.
To quote Daryll Lloyd, it should read "Site Nazi".

Hey Pat quit playing semantics and post something that has some substantive worth to our audience instead of playing 6th grade word games that contribute nothing to our board.

I keep telling you guys, if it wasn't for the "Hits" this site could care less who we are. We're not the CCIW, WIAC or UAA. But, watch them squeal next monday cause the SLIAC has earned an AQ. Whether they like it or not.

Iwumichigander, thank you for pointing out that what I have said are points that many others have also said "seperately."  I thought that I was entitled to post my opinion just like everyone else.  I guess since someone else has made a similar point I shouldn't or can't reiterate what others have said.

But on to your post, you say that the snenarios can get "too complex."  I don't know anything too complex about playing 1 game on a Wednesday night to determine who the 4 seed is.  Sure, you need to get refs and buses, but really, how hard can that be?  I think my solution is a simplistic approach to this snenario.

iwumichigander - We all know what our own guidelines say. It doesn't mean we can't pi** and moan about it. Isn't that what this sites for.
