There is nice mention of the Westminster team and a couple of its seniors in the Columbia MO Tribune today.

Buncher, another remedy would be if the SLIAC went to the 8 team playoff - get the schedule pushed back properly and have the typical Tuesday-Friday Saturday Conference Tourney -

Per FC's comment, please let me know if you will be coming in town for the tourney - would love to join the party at McClains, if FC promises not to smoke... ::)

We shall see.  I will keep the board posted, although it is not looking too good.  Perhaps we can have a fundraiser event to pay for my trip.  FC or Hope, any suggestions?

Observation D*ck - I don't need one of Coleman's lackey's jumping in on the pile.

I don't care who this is and who you are -- we are not interested in name-calling here. Did someone call you a name that I missed? Please let me know so I can deal with that poster the same way.

Big congrats to Webster University on achieiving a school record 20 wins, a conference record 16 wins, and being only 1 of 3 teams to run the table in conference play.  It has been over 10 years since this feat was last accomplished.  Very impressive boys!

Tonight, the 22 point margin over WC was as large as it appears.  It was close for the first 10 minutes and then Webster began running away with the game.  Webster was up 16 at the half and by as many as 28 with about 8 to play.

So, now the tourney is set.  As I predicted and much to my chagrin, Maryville will get the 4 seed.  I would have rather played Greenville, based simply off the 2 teams' prior scores.  Webster has beat Greenville two times very handidly.  Maryville is a scrappy bunch and as I have already said, Coach Rogers will have his team ready to play.  Nevertheless, I am confident in Webster and like their chances.  They have proved they are very capable team and have the "know how" to win close ones.

Looking forward to others comments on the games, the upcoming tourney etc.!  The MAIN EVENT has arrived!  No more guarantees at this point.

With about 7 minutes gone in the second half of the WU-WC game WC's coach sat his starters down. They had not been succesful in substantially cutting into Webster's 16 point halftime lead, although they did get it down to 10 once fairly early in the second half, before pushing the lead back out to the 28 poinnts the BunchTime mentioned. Webster then played with a mixture of starters and reserves until around the 3 miinute mark when the seniors were pulled for their final curtain call and it was all reserves for the final 2-3 miinutes. I think Coach Mitchell made the wise decision to rest his guys for Thursday night. It could also be viewed as a nice gesture, in that it pretty much insured that Webster would complete the undefeated conference season. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he handed Webster the game because they would certainly have won regardless.

Thanks for the insight Y_Jack.  I was unaware that Coach Mitchell sat his starters.  And I agree with you that once they had a difficult time cutting into the lead, I am sure he cut his losses and rested his guys.

Regarding the infamous Westminster-Fontbonne tape

I was able to witness two plays on it, albeit poor angle on both, a pretty far distance, no slow mo, and not exactly HD quality.

I was surprized to see that one of the officials in question was one of the officials who worked the Fontbonne-Webster game - a game that I thought was so well officiated that upon seeing two of the same officials at Greenville, I walked over and thanked them for doing such a great job.

Two plays in question - here's what I could see on tape..

Westminster down 3 with 7 seconds, a drive or tap whatever, the ball is on the rim spinning and wham, it gets slammed down.  As I said, the camera at half court was away from the play at poor angle...  it APPEAREd on tape that the ball was still on the rim and was interfered with - a judgement call by the ref, who had to have a better angle on the play, said the ball was off the rim and fair game.
The second play was as the clock approached 0:00 - the Westminster player splits two players at half court, and the sight of the ball by the camera is hidden.  Fournie is standing to the side, with his hands straight up, leaning away from the Westmin player.  A shooting foul is called as the buzzer goes off -  I don't know - He could have only made brushing contact with his body, there appeared to be none with his arms  - 2 thoughts on this play - unless there is clear contact with the shooting motion, no call should be made, because it's obvious that the desparation shooter is the player out of control, not the defensive man  - BUT, no 2, don't take a chance with ANY contact, back off at half court, don't risk the foul. It's a 1%
shot, with or without defensive pressure....

Fontbonne looked good last night - to me Fogarty is clearly MOP, Storandt is clearly a first team all conference

Also congrats to the several seniors on Greenille's squad - they've been great representatives of SLIAC hoops for four years, always competitive - if only they had had a 6'6" bruiser to work with them.

Congrats to Maryville for winning when they had to and getting into the playoffs.  Not sure how their matchup with Webster will go - is Maryville just happy to be there, or will they come out with an attitude of 'shoudda beat them last time, we will beat them this time'

Can't wait til Thursday

Well....hopefully Westminster got that game out of their system and that they will be ready to go on thursday.

I saw that Buxton made the D3 hoops team of the week last week. Does anyone know of any other SLIAC player that has been named to D3 hoops team of the week?

Jr. Mint  8), good to hear that you were in attendance at last nights WC-WU game and welcome back to Missouri. You have been greatly missed.

There are a couple of SLIAC schools who nominate on a regular basis, but that's it.

I was only referring to this season -- I should've specified.

Congrats to Webster who finished the regular season regionally ranked.  Now, none of that matters -- it is do or die!
