The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

In looking at MHB's schedule, the one thing that sticks out is a performance against two eastern schools over the holidays - They beat Worcester State by 15 - Worcester state is in the perenially weak MASCAC, and is a middle of the packer - they played as a last second replacement in the Lopata tourney last year and were not good.  MHB beat Penn State Behrand by 5 - I picture Behrand to be at a level similar to Fontbonne - on top of a relatively weak league.  Both of those comparisons indicate  no necessity for a fear factor.

Now then, the ugly thing in my mind..  two years ago a good Maryville team went down to ASC Mississippi college and got crushed - of course it was on Miss College Court, but what I heard was tremendously athletic-far more than SLIAC accustomed to... BUT that was that team, this is this team....

MAIN FACTOR  Justin, Brian, Chad can't get in foul trouble

Did anyone else hear the Maryville, Tn. coach use the term "National Tournament" several times during his interview on the bracket broadcast today. See it's not just me. ???

BunchTime

I didn't hear it Fc but many people refer to it as both the NCAA Tournament and/or the National Tournament.  Unless someone is brain dead, we all know what it means.  Of course though, we have people who come on here to nitpick things like this.

So, has FU started scouting and checking out game tape of UMHB?  What do you know about them FC?

FU beat Westminster by 24, WC beat Rhodes by 4, Rhodes beat Hendrix, Hendix loss to Univ. of the Ozarks by 11,  Univ. of the Ozarks loss to MH-B by 4.

That's the best I can do.  ???
Five degree's of seperation.

fcnews and Coach McKinney should receive film tomorrow before noon on MHB.  So, they will be plenty prepared.  Here hoping the Griffins can pick up win #1 for SLIAC Men's Basketball.  And yes, Puget Sound will be hosting the 1st/2nd Round.  I'm the Assistant Tournament Director so I have already had my hands full this morning at 6:00am PST (Selection Show) and now.  :)  GO LOGGERS!

I think M-HB is a good matchup for FU. You can win this one, fc.

BunchTime

Hopefan, what is the FU vs UMHB spread?  Over-under?

fcnews

Y_Jak - Is that a hunch or do you have solid info. It appears on paper. They are a bigger version of Maryville, only they shoot thr free throws better.

Yep, again, anyone with an NAIA background will likely use this term inappropriately in the NCAA.

I would think that there is a lot of NAIA background in the NCAA.  Also, most aren't trying to be so politically correct to think twice about it. Maybe we're talking about a regional thing. Maybe old school, new school. As we know from demographics there alot more DIII back east and a lot of the midwest schools were once NAIA. Or Maybe, in the scope of things, there are a lot more people using this term then not. And, nobody cares to correct them because we all know we're talking about the same thing.

Pat Coleman

Yep -- there's just something about speaking the language, sounding like you're a member of the NCAA, and knowing what the event actually is called.

When I hear recent NAIA converts use this term, I definitely cringe, because there is so much animosity towards the recent influx of new schools among the old guard. I'd like to see them not stick out like a sore thumb so much.

Quote from: fcnews on March 03, 2008, 10:19:57 AMCompare our conferences endowdtments to any CCIW school and yes you would be considered "Daddy Warbucks". FU falls into the bottom of the SLIAC figures.

I already said that CCIW schools are wealthier than SLIAC schools. That's obvious to anyone who does a five-minute search on the Petersons website. But you and Pride are mistaken to think that, just because CCIW schools are wealthier, athletic teams from my home conference have bottomless budgets and the luxury of being able to travel wherever, and however, they please. They don't. As I've said, travel funds are quite limited at CCIW schools, too, and CCIW athletic programs quite often have to augment their budgets with outside funding -- such as the concession stand the NPU men's basketball team operates at NPU football games, the concession stand that the Elmhurst football team operates at Elmhurst basketball games, etc.

More money than the SLIAC =/= wealthy
