And the game is underway.  Fontbonne takes a quick lead 6-0 on two 3-pointers.  Here is to hoping that the Griffins can pull it off.  Make the SLIAC proud boys.

BunchTime

Fontbonne up 2 with 6:30 to play.  Making me nervous!

BunchTime

Congrats to Coach McKinney and Fontbonne as they gave the number 11 team in the country everything, and then some.  FU led most of the way from the 10 minute mark, but UMHB took the lead and FU had a last second chance to tie and missed.

The SLIAC should be proud of our conference rep.  It goes to show you that the SLIAC continues to make strides to close the gap between our conference and others.  This was by far our best showing in the NCAA Tourney.  It especially hurts since FU led most of way in the final 10 minutes or so.

Great job to FU.  Keep your heads up as you gave it your all.

The UMHB announcers kept saying in the last 10 minutes of the game that FU was out of gas and that the "Cru" (for Crusaders) would start to run the Griffins into the ground. Little did they know.

Great job, FU. I know there is no consolation in a close loss, even to a highly ranked team.

fc, your point has been proven about getting a new oppponent on a neutral floor. I just wish the outcome had been different.

Hats off to Coach McKinney, fcnews and the crew.  Great job tonight.  You make all in the SLIAC proud. :)

Well guys this one hurts as bad as any loss I can remember right now. FU took the #12 team in the nation to the wall. We had a four point lead with like 1:58 on the clock and couldn't put it away. MH-B was a huge team. the played mainly a back line of 6'10, 6'7, 6'7. This was the most athleyic team we have faced all year. We didn't come here to play a close game. We expected to win tonight and didn't get it done.

Chad Fournie finished his career by holding MH-B's Tillon Gaddy to 8 pts. on 3-8 from the floor. Chad did not want to go out this way. Storandt didn't play like only a sliac HM (?) post. He finshed with 15 pts. and 13 boards and playing his best game by far.

That's it for this year.

Real convienent that tonights MH-B v. MC game is having regulsr media time outs. We were told last night that there would be no media timeouts this weekend. FU could of used these to our advantage last night. Either you do or don't. What the sh*t is that all about. What a shame.

MH-B up 7 pts. with 6 min. to go.

fcnews

Millsaps hits three pointer with 4 seconds to beat MH-B by one. The only lead of the game for MC.

Thanks to Bunchtime, Yjak and Pride for the nice comments. After, listening to the outcome of the game tonight, I am more peed off then depressed. Media timeouts in the friday night FU v. MH-B game would of made a huge difference. Tonights results show that FU would of at least been in a contest that could of been competitive.

What would the outcome have been if FU would have had the chance to rest it's players during the four second half media timeouts?

This is not meant to sound like sour grapes, just an honest question.

The Sliac's All-Conference Honorable Mention (?) post player Justin Storandt, made the All-Tournament Team at Millsaps. Justin finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds, against MH-B's 6'10 post.

Justin if you read this, way to go big guy. This plaque makes up for the piece of paper you got for your great conference year.

No one knows what the outcome would have been. But UMHB would have gotten the same rest. And it sounds like you are admitting that FU really was getting tired and really needed the rest, something you have not been willing to acknowledge all season.

I don't mean to be picking on you. I think the announcers expected UMHB to pull away at the end of the game, but your players showed a lot of guts and stamina to prevent that from happening. Plus, I think UMHB was more nervous than FU given the number of free throws they missed. You now have players who are "seasoned" in regards to NCAA tournament play, even if it is only two games in two years. If you make it to the tournament next year and get a "green" opponent, I will be expecting a win

Final Comments on the trip:

It is very hard to put into words the atmosphere in the Hangar this weekend. Imagine a quonset hut 4 times the size of Concordia, StL., only the roof (ceiling) is all native knotty pine. The floor runs side ways. The bench side has about 40 rows of bleachers all the way to the ceiling, the other side has a free standing set of bleachers that's probably the size of one side of Maryville's gym. The structure lends it's self to a very loud crowd. The loudest I've heard anywhere.

Millsaps is a beautiful southern campus and just outside The Hangar is the football field. Home of this years 15 latteral play by Trinity, TX. It is also the home of the New Orleans Saints pre season camp. Beautiful field.

Millsaps College was a great host. You knew the event was going on as soon as you drove on campus. Their staff and athletic department did an unbelievable job. The food in the hospitality suite was very nice. Thanks for the support from the Maryville crowd during our second half.

The southern hospitality can not be beat. Thursday nite FU had the last practice session. The employee's of the O'Charley's restaurant kept the place open an hour and half past closing to accomidate us. Friday, after the game, the staff at Logan's Roadhouse did an incredible job of getting our party of about 60 seated together with hardly much wait. What great steaks they serve.

The kids left Jackson very dissapointed. But, this experience showed them that they could play with anybody and did.

Next year can't get here quick enough.

Yjak - I didn't say that they were anymore tired then at the end of any game this season. I'm not sure MH-B's free throw problems was nerves. Look at last nights box score. They just don't shoot them that well.

No excuses though.
