Hey Guys, I'm very excited for what the SLIAC is going to bring this season. Looks like we've got a bunch of new talent as well as a good collection of returners. In particular, MAC has a fresh roster that's really looking strong. They brought in a very talented McClellan that was a big contributor in State Championship, could be a star under the radar. Overall, I think we're in for a heck of a season from the MAC squad and the rest of the SLIAC. Here's my Pre-season rankings:

1Fontbonne
2Webster
3Maryville
4Greenville
5Westminster
6Eureka
7Mac
8Principia
9Blackburn

I'm really liking the fact we're seeing several new posters who seem familiar with what's going on in the SLIAC, especially with the Illinois schools - hope they'll all stay with us through the season to keep the info flowing -

BLA

I just checked the board for the first time in a while. Did I miss something here? A couple posts seem random. What's with the last post from FC? Why is there a question about relation? Is that really important here? Hey FC....who are you related too?

The word out of Webster is that practice went well.  "Intense" was used to describe the week.  I like the sound of that. I believe they have a scrimmage coming up this weekend against Meramec.

BLA - Any info on time and date of scrimmage? Is it an open or closed event?

Panther Pride - GC never lists heights or positions on their web roster. Not able in web format or other reason?

I checked the Greenville Roster and they currently have the height and weight listed, but no picture or any other stat.

luvadagame  -  I agree with FC on this one - I checked their roster, but it had no heights  (I was curious if any new size came in)   where are you seeing heights? - I tried both the connection going through D3 hoops and going directly to the college site......   thanks

I look up Greenville College through Google. Once I get to the homepage I click on athletics at the top, then Mens Basketball, then Roster and if you click on the name of the player it reveals the weight and height.

luvadagame - hitting the player's name is the secret I was missing!!   Thanks

The 2 year hand shake agreement between FU Coach McKinney and then SLU Coach Soderberg for exhibition games, that Majerus wouldn't honor. Has resulted in a great tip off for SLU on Nov. 5th vs. Harris Stowe Teachers College. ???

hopefan

I saw Maryville play an exhibition with Harris Stowe two years ago - I felt it was really a worthless effort for Maryville - Harris Stowe plays a totally different style than any SLIAC team - a lot of one on one playground stuff - it just did little to contribute to preparation for the season.  A big shame that the SLU setup fell through as that would have been a real thrill for the kids - too bad though, a game with one of the state schools or Rolla, Drury etc couldn't have been set up -

Well just think, in two years, SLIAC schools can approach Maryville to be an exhibition opponent!!!! ;D

I see on GC's roster they have a 6'8 260 lb. freshmen this year. But, he already tagged with (JV). I would think anyone of that size would get more then a one week look, before deciding he should play down.

While recruiters sometimes miss gems, more often with a 6'8", 260 lb. guy who doesn't go scholarship - there's a reason!  Without knowing anything about the guy (even who he is!), my hunch would be that he is far from ready for prime time, but with that size a coach can always have hopes for the future. ;)

Sparta is an awfully tiny little high school.  I know...I grew up visiting my grandparents in Pinckneyville, where my dad played basketball and where the football field is named for my grandfather.  I've never seen Caleb Barnett play, but I gotta believe a 6-8/260 kid at a Class 1A school like Sparta with any basketball ability would produce some type of hits when you plug his name and high school into Google.  I can't find much baskeball-related at all.

Illinois Wesleyan has a 6-9/290 freshman who averaged 16.2 ppg and 9.9 rpg vs "big school" competition at Springfield-Lanphier last year.  Ryan Connolly will probably be a JV player this year for the Titans.   IWU also has another 6-9 freshman who had over 10 Division I scholarships...

My guess is that Eric McCullough will be a JV player this year as well.

In moving from one basketball level to the next, the learning curve is greatest for the big guys.  It just takes them (even the ones who were pretty accomplished H.S. players) longer to be competitive.
