Interesting outlook write up on Maryville's site

It mentions Steinke and Jarred McKoy as the keys and transfer Eric Gruenewald as a major contributor at Guard  -   which says there will be a major logjam for playing time with Tyler Saxton, Ben Koopman, Jake Buechle, Drew Simmons, Curt Goodwin, Chris Collins also at Guard!!!

Also mentions Chris Rebuk, a 6'6 ' frosh from Waynesville as a talent component they haven't had -
And of course Matt Baker returns
And 3 or 4 other frosh with good size

I don't know - if the frosh are good, this group could really give Fontbonne a run

2 problems
keeping them all happy
getting consistant aggressive play out of Steinke and Baker, with good fill in time from the freshmen in the big man role

If Matt Rogers continues to go after it on defense using all the guards he has, it could really pressur those teams that might not have the depth to keep up.

It REALLY is disappointing that they're leaving the SLIAC - with all three St Louis schools having deep frosh classes, it would have been four years to look forward to....

Any word on MacMurray and how their scrimmages have gone?
Quote from: hopefan on November 13, 2008, 10:58:37 AM
Mac got beat badly by SEMO, but Sean Knox and Fred Miller had good games
IWU scrimmaged MacMurray this evening (Nov 11th) in Jacksonville.  The Titans won the two varsity periods by a combined score of 92-74.  The Titans won the JV period 35-22.  - Note: Titan Q made a post on the CCIW board. No MacMurray insight other than scores.

Hopefan - If a group of freshmen from MU can beat FU's experienced group then I will pay some attention. Except for the two contests FU has with MU, I could really care less about what they have or what they will be in a year.

This poster is not one of those that is intrigued by their transformation. And, they aren't making it any easier.
ie: The first SLIAC team to charge at the gate.

I see this as a direct conflict with the SLIAC Charter. And, after this year, we will not be hearing a word about this team in March for three years.

If there was ever a win "now" since of urgency, it would be the MU Basketball Program.

Stat Line of the Night from APSU:
T. Lovette - 4/5 fg, 8pts, 6 rebs, 2 blks. 10 mins.

This is just what the Griffin's needed to see. Lovette will need to pick up Dressler's minutes. He suffered a slight low ankle sprain in the first half. He should be available for next weeks season opener against Waldorf.

So no SLIAC schools have ever charged admission before Maryville decided to do so this year? Interesting. CCIW schools have always charged admission, as far as I know -- and I go back thirty years with that league. Most charge $5, although at least one (Elmhurst) has charged $6 for quite some time now.

In 2004 (I think that was the year) when my alma mater Randolph-Macon came to the midwest for a season opening tournament at Illinois Wesleyan I drove up from St. Louis for the games and paid $6.00 admission.

If the SLIAC schools charged, especially $5.00 or $6.00, I'm not sure how many games I'd be going to. Also Wash U doesn't charge either.

Aren't some, maybe most, of the CCIW schools in communities where they are the only game in town? (Yes, I know Illinois State is in Bloomington/Normal with IWU.) Here in St. Louis we have SLU, lots of Mizzou alum who will drive to Columbia, UMSL, the Cardinals, the Rams (yes, people still go to their games), and the BLues. There is no lack of opportunity for people to attend sporting events here.

That doesn't surprise me. I haven't been to a game at IWU in quite a few years. I was pretty sure that by this point Elmhurst wasn't the only CCIW school charging six smackers to get in the door.

Now that I find interesting, especially since Wash U's archrival Chicago charges $5.

No, not really. Millikin has Decatur all to itself and Augie is (aside from St. Ambrose, a relatively obscure NAIA school across the river) the only game in town in the Quad Cities. But Carthage shares Kenosha with D2 UW-Parkside, and it's only an hour away from both Chicago and Milwaukee. And the four Chicagoland schools in the CCIW (North Park, Wheaton, Elmhurst, and North Central) are up against even more competition for the entertainment dollar than you have down there in the City With The World's Biggest Croquet Hoop.

Shows how much I know about the CCIW. If it had been a test I 'd have failed.

World's Biggest Croquet Hoope -- first time I've heaard that. Did you  just come up with, or am I even more out of it than I think I am?

I've heard that line before, but I think Greg may have introduced it to d3hoops.

So kudos to Greg, and, no, you're not out of it! ;)

Cubs television analyst Bob Brenly came up with that one. He proposed that the state of Illinois build a 7,000-foot statue in East St. Louis of a man with a croquet mallet lining up a giant ball.

wonder if Maryville has any deals on a season package??? Or perhaps an All Sports package  ??  If I watch the Men only, can I get half price???

I gotta figure out how to reduce my cost......

ooh wait.... how about senior citizen rates -  that would definitely help yjak!! ;) ;)

Why fret it Hopefan? You can see MU twice for free at WU and FU. If your just wanting to take in a DII game, UMSL is the same price.

fcnews

The thought of the founding members of the SLIAC, was to try and give the area an entertaining product and an inexpiensive nite out. I would say that over the past 18 yrs. they have definately accomplished it. It's still the best deal in town.

Sager- We do have the Bowling Hall Of Fame. And of course, every Chicago visitor has to take in the St. Louis Cardinal Museum just to see what a World Championship Trophy looks like.  ;D
