2.) Couple of extra hundred will help with meal money. PLEEEEEZ!!!

I don't see why it wouldn't help with something.  I just used meal money as an example, but I'll stay with that.  If Maryville takes in $200 from the home games with U. of the Ozarks and Nebraska Wesleyan, doesn't that cover their meal money expenses for the trip to IWU on 11/30?  Or help pay for some basketball program expense? Heck, a tank of gas for a road trip or something?

My main point is that it's Maryville's call to charge or not charge and I assume that is a carefully thought out decision.

I'm sure most of you have not heard but Fontbonne played an exibition game against the alumni on Friday. THE ALUMNI WON the game 55-53 on a last second shot. This was the first time that a Fontbonne team has ever lost. 75% of the alumni would have gotten a DUI on the way to the game but managed to pull it out. The Fontbonne team should take a look in the mirror and question whether they should consider theirselves college athletes. Rack up 3 wins for the Fontbonne alumni teams this year against the current team (Soccer, baseball and basketball). Thanks to Coach McKinney for having the game. It was the best win of our careers. Good luck to the team.

disappointing performance from Greenville - not what a contending team in the SLIAC would hope to accomplish against a team with the worst record in D3 last year.....  maybe Rockford got better quickly???  I hope. :-\

Hopefan, where you at the game???? Rockford was hitting pretty much every shot in the second half and Greenville was just making too many turnovers. But, I wouldn't count Greenville out for this season and I even though I would have loved the win. Yes, they had a lot of unneccessary turnovers, but there were some highlights. The two transfers John Fischer and Rashod Seaton both had their first games with GC and seem to be a nice fit. Ellis had a double-double with 23 points (he scored his number) and 12 rebounds. So all in all, it definitely was not there best game, but they seemed to be finding their grove and I expect great things from Greenville this season.!

Alumnifu23 - I got a good idea they'll do more then look in the mirror. Can you say down and back. I never saw Grasle and Tillet pass up so many wide open looks to get Thomas the ball. How about Oliver driving 6 hours and winning the slam dunk contest on only one attempt.

Coach could not of picked a better bunch of guys to lose to. You guys are the reason he's still in the game. It was Great to see the Borgia 3, the best Little man from the eastside and the tri - towers of Dressler, Thomas and Oliver.

Also FU's two best 6th men Fournie and Cundiff did the dirty work again.

Biggest "Late Nite" in years. See ya at the games this year.

TQ  shame on you - you don't know me well enough - my remarks regarding the admission charge were made to make a point, but were tongue in cheek, to point out that virtually no one from the community at large goes to the games, and I being one of the "10 or 20", am one of those who is going to get pinched for the 6 bucks!!!!!!   It's obvious the $100 gate (I notice you Doubled it) would be enough to get one of the two school vans to Bloomington and back..    ::) ::)
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Maryville charges students and family members to get in?  I have a hard time believing that.

Q - Then who are they going to charge?

None of the three STL schools are squeezing pennies. Or, need a gate. Even visiting D3 students and families deserve to see their kids play. It's just small college basketball in the big city trying to draw a fan base. You got lights and a officials crew. The lights would be on anyway for general student bodies use, so what major expenses are you trying to cover.

A basketball program is not that tough to fund.

Mr. Ypsi

fcnews,

So your coach(es), trainer(s), etc. are all volunteers? ;)

[I won't mention liability insurance, recruiting expenses, travel, etc.]

fcnews

Mr. Ypsi - This is Fontbonne's 20th year of sports. From 2 teams, to now 16 teams and never has a gate been required to survive. Good fundraising and well budgeted program.

Noticed that SIUE had a very commendable weekend - losing to D1 teams close two times, and beating D1 Western Michigan   -  this makes Westminster's exhibition win against them all the more impressive   (yes, yes, yes, the Central Mizzou score was not impressive)

The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Coming from a Division III school that does charge admission for basketball (as well as football, Soccer, and Volleyball), the gate is nothing to jump up and down about.  Also, that money made a the gate does not go directly into the basketball fund.  It may inadvertently, but not directly.

As for my beloved Panthers of Greenville, tough loss to begin the 08-09 campaign.  Hopefully they will bounce back this week.

Pride - How's it going up there in the NW? Hope things are going well for you.

FU's opening opponent Waldorf beat IIT (same team the beat Chicago this weekend) by 2 in OT at ITT. They are not Wm. Penn, but should be a good test for the Giffins first game.

Things are well here in the northwest.  I met one part of the D3Sports family this weekend when Ryan Coleman came into town and joined us for 7 athletic events in 34 hours.  You can see his great photo work at D3Sports.com and view any photos from Puget Sound events!!!

Logger Basketball is 2-0, topping UC Santa Cruz and Macalester this past weekend.  They take to the court again on Thursday Night at Salem, Ore. as we battle the Corban Warriors.  You can catch the coverage of that game on the DexKnows.com Network...  hosted this Thursday by myself! :) (http://www2.ups.edu/athletics/live/broadcast.htm)  A little shameless plug!

NOTE: Coverage should begin at 9:20pm there in the Central Time Zone if you want to tune in.

I look forward to keeping up with the SLIAC as much as I can again this year.  I'll be in the area for a few days and will be attending the Greenville / Concordia (Mo) game on December 11 ( I think ).

Pride - Sounds like things are going well for the SLIAC favorite play by play man. Be sure and keep in touch. I'll be following the Loggers again this year. Did you guys fill the last spot in your tournament for next year? Be a nice trip for the Griffins. I'll try to speak to someone at FU about the possibilities. Take care.

Seven athletic events in 34 hours? It's a good thing that the Pacific Northwest is known for its coffee.
