Both teams have buckled down defensively in the 2nd half. The difference has been WIU has been able to hit some contested shots and Eureka hasn't. Western is on a 15-2 run right now over both halves. Some turnovers are starting to hurt. DuBois free throw makes it 52-40. Time EC with 15:20 left.

This 2nd half has been a much different tone. Western has crawled ahead 62-48 with 7:49 left. Emphasis on crawl as both teams can't find the range right now. The games seems to be there for the taking if EC wants back into it, but so far it's not to be.

Finally some chinks in the Western armor. Two huge offensive boards by Eureka have spurred a 9-2 run and EC is back within 62-55 with 6 min. left.

WIU did well down the stretch. They took the shot clock down, then converted at the end. Meanwhile, Eureka was shut down with only 2 points over the last 6 minutes or so.  Better defense by Eureka in the second half, but we'll have to chalk that up as a moral victory for now. More on this game later.

BLA - Moody Bible? No, FU's first game is against Waldorf College. Waldorf beat Ill. Tech in OT. ITT has beat U of Chicago and Spalding by 21 (who appears on Webster's and Westminster's schedule).

Just for clarification.

Hopefan - Blackburn tonite? Are you up for it?

Sorry FC   -   off to Minneapolis this morn for a wedding -  actually checked out the Minn schools for a Friday night Sat early afternoon D3 game, but none.....   Unfortunately due to work situations and family friend visit, I'm shut out until 1st weekend in Dec.   -  Am counting on going to RHIT Font in mid Dec....  perhaps a FC, Yjak, Hope gang then, but we gotta talk Yjak into hitting a boat on the way...... ::) ::)
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

FC, my comment was in response to the nationally ranked defense LAST SEASON.  The more teams you play that are the caliber of a Moody Bible the better a defense will look on PAPER because the opponent is greatly OVERMATCHED on both sides of the floor. I never brought up this season. I'm happy that Fontbonne decided to beef up the schedule this season.  But if I'm not mistaken FU is still playing in the Moody Bible, correct?

But thanks for clearing that up for me. Next time I will not attemp such subtle humor.

But that was last season....As far as I'm concerned it's a dead topic because this season starts tomorrow for Gorloks (and I know that technically they started their season against SIUe but that game doesn't count again the record).

I'm beyond pumped for this weekend. I have no familiarity with the Neb Wes team or Ozark. So it should be interesting.  Good luck to the players and coaches this weekend.

All I know about NWU is the AD is Ira Zeff, the ex Blackburn coach. Ozark is in the same conference as Millsaps. It's a pretty salty group. Good Luck to all the SLIAC teams.

Nebraska Wesleyan is affiliated with both the NAIA and NCAA-D3 (as an independent). They play in an NAIA conference but also schedule D3 schools in various sports. Their women's soccer team came down to play Webster in 2007. Webster won 3-0. Last season their men's basketball team played games against the following D3 schools: Austin College, University of Dallas, Concordia-Moorhead, St. Mary's (MN), Simpson, Redlands, La Verne, and UC Santa Cruz

No, it isn't. The University of the Ozarks is in the ASC (Mississippi College, LeTourneau, McMurry, Sul Ross State, Louisiana College, Hardin-Simmons, etc.). Millsaps is in the SCAC (Centre, Rhodes, Sewanee, Southwestern, etc.).

I know next to squat about NebWes, but they did have at least one outstanding year.  They were IWU's opponent in the title game of our only d3 ring (1997).

My impression is that they have gone back to NAIA for post-season competition, but I haven't checked it out.  (Or perhaps they just haven't made post-season anywhere lately.)

I neglected to mention that NWU went 7-2 against the eight D3 teams they played last season. the played University of Dallas twice.

Nebraska Wesleyan has had many outstanding years. The Prairie Wolves (ne Plainsmen) have a 24-16 record in D3 tournament play and have made four trips to the Final Four, including three in a four-year period (1985, 1986, and 1988). Check out the icon on former NWU hoopster AndOne's posts: Those are NebWes's D3 Final Four trophies.

The Prairie Wolves have not "gone back" to NAIA competition. They've declared for NCAA D3 since the very inception of the division back in the mid-seventies, and they've been here ever since. NebWes simply hasn't been good enough to land a Pool B berth in recent seasons.
