The Fontbonne athletes other than basketball last year had to pay their own way for trips. Basketball we were told had fundraisers so they didn't have to pay. This year, I have heard the basketball players have to pay and that is why some are not going. I would not be very happy with the school that backed out of a signed contract. i would think there would have been some kind of a penalty in the contract and I would have thouht the school lawyers would have seen to that before this much money was committed to this trip. Otherwise, why have a contract. I agree with FC, you cant just cancel airline tickets at the last minute. Too bad for Fontbonne. Sounds like a real bummer.

Last_word - The past two years trips (FL. and Ca.) didn't cost the players a penny. This year with it being Hawaii, athletes paid a small portion, if they did not participate in the Golf Tournament. All the sports at FU have the chance to raise funds during this tournament. Only two varsity basketball players are not going. One will not fly and the other chose not to go.

All the teams at FU have this event to raise their travel funds. Basketball, Soccer, Golf, softball, volleyball......ect. It is up to the coach and athlete. Coach McKinney and Coach Quigley (wbb) take full advantage.

Not to many wealthy Alums. A lot of corporate and friends of the program.

This will still be a great experience for the players and the families that are traveling. A nice break for the men's team, after the last 3 games. And, a time to prepare for 3 tough games when FU returns to action. Greenville, Grinnell and Webster. Maryville the following week.

Ok FC News, thanks for the clarification. Sounds like a good deal for the Fontbonne kids.

I know the Fontbonne athletic department is not the only one of the SLIAC schools to do fundraising. Webster does it, and I expect all the others do as well.

Merry Christmas to all.

HCACBBALL

I bet aleast 90% or more of D3 teams fundraise in some form or fashion.  It would be hard to treat your players right if you did not do that.  Even though it is about the balance between academics and athletics you still want to give you players a good experience.

Happy Holidays to all!!!!

So right Yjak and HCACBall. The kids that play DIII sports sacrifice a lot, compared to the other two divisions. The Christmas trip has always been looked at as a reward for the FU players. The better the Coaches, Staff and Families fundraise the better the reward.

To All a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year.

While stuck at the Louisville International Airport, I thought I'd catch up on my D3Hoops.com SLIAC Board action!  Hope you are all doing well.

Just a drop in regarding the fund raising.  I agree with the statement that was made that most if not all NCAA III programs fundraise in some way, shape, or form.  I know we do at Puget Sound.  Each team does in their own way.  It's unfortunate and I know we are trying to lessen the burden on the student-athletes, but until you find a wealthy alum or corporate sponsor that's going to cover the gap in budget needs, fundraising is the only way to help those.

I know when Greenville when to the Czech Republic in 2002-03, we had to fundraise for that trip.  And it was a lot and for a freshman, it was alot in a short time.  That's that tough.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and will have a great new year!  Good luck to all SLIAC Teams once play resumes.

Sunny and 80 degrees  ;D

A jog up Diamond Head today for conditioning. Practice outdoors at the North Shore tommorrow. Just what the doctor prescribed after the tough week we went thru before Christmas. Recharge and get ready for an extremeley tough four game stretch when FU returns.

A safe and joyful New Years to All.

Westminster wins yesterday down at Rhodes in Memphis - Rhodes came into game at 6-2, albeit against pretty weak competition - nice road win for Westmin...

Maryville plays in a tourney today and tomorrow  (interesting experience for Maryville to play John Jay, a New York City school), Mac plays Benedictine today  -  then league action on Saturday  -  anybody going to be at westmin - Mac game Saturday that would be interested in exchanging scores via text messaging?  We should have other 3 games covered....

Who is going to win the 4 games on Saturday - quite honestly, three rate as near coin flips, and a good case could be made to say that Greenville - Fontbonne should be close too....   a fun day
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Glad to hear that Fontbonne is have a nice vacation.  Jealous.

Well... I haven't posted in a while but everyone who has seen the Gorloks play will have to say that they look less than impressive. They are jumper happy that's for sure.  I would like to see guys like Restoff, Turk, Jones, Hrdlicka, and Neubrigge attack the hole more often and get somrthing going to the hole be it a easy bucket or free throws.  I invite you to look at the free throw desparity in the past few games for the Gorloks. It's shocking.  But I guess that what happens when you shoot jumpers all day and foul every time the other team has the ball.

I hope for a different result against Blackburn. If not, Gorloks will be hurting.

The only thing I left to say is that was it really the best way to recharge the battery by flying to hawaii to play a scrimmage game? Three halves? How much focus was actually on basketball on this trip? I just wonder how the Griffins will respond and bounce back after travelling with a tough game against Greenville. They always seem to play up and down with the Griffins.

Upset in the making???

That is Westminster's second win against Rhodes this season. The first came on 11/22 at the Rhema Tip-Off Classic in Broken Arrow, OK. Score of that one was 68-57.

I talked to two Fontbonne starters this week who are back in St. Louis becuase they couldn't afford the $1400 they said the trip was going to cost each player. This economy sucks!

It does sound like Chaminade put the screws to Fontbonne with the scheduling. Still, I am sure the players are enjoying the trip so I see no problem with it.

IF last word is right, and two team members can't make that trip because of their financial situation, something is VERY wrong with that set up....

IF Last Word is correct......  If not, then no problem

Last I heard, Basketball is a TEAM game....

Implications here really upset me, and how could they possibly help the TEAM????

This is different from the reasons FC gave for 2 players not going (one chose not to, the other would not fly)

Hopefully someone can set the record straight.... I'd just like to know the facts.......  I'm hoping FC was correct....

Congrats to Coach Mitchell and the WC Bluejays on a great start. It is hard to pre judge a teams strength when making schedules.

HCACBall - It appears Sean Knox has not been in Mac's last two boxscores, any word on his situation?
