Good Luck Guy's!!!!!

conversation starter  :  the front page has an interesting poll right now - how much would you pay to watch a d3 game on line on the internet?  Curious as to how some of our regulars would answer...  let's assume YOUR team is doing well and is a contender in it's conference...

ie...  if your favorite SLIAC team was on the road and you couldn't get to the game, how much would you pay to watch on line?

Yjak - if Randolph Macon had a big game or two

Me - if old favorite Hope or alma mater RPI was playing

how about if regional teams had a big squareoff  -  ie Ill Wez vs Auggie, Grinnell vs Carroll, Wash U Rochester

I have a long background in D3, so I know I would answer in the positive on big game situations of either SLIAC, Wash U, Hope, and maybe even RPI - I'd max out the cost of $10.   I'd also likely be willing to spend half that much on a game between regional or nationally rated teams - sorry guys, I'm a nut....

How about the rest of you... is your interest beyond the local teams, or is your focus strictly on them?  Would you put out a few bucks to watch?
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

I have mixed feelings on that subject Hopefan. I have had very little luck viewing on line games. Between constant buffering and poor camera angles, I haven't been to impressed with the technology, yet.

Very bad/sad news on D3boards on the SLIAC football postings - It looks like Blackburn is shutting down the Football program - leaving a considerable number of student athletes out in the cold....  There are several very passionate postings there....

Just read those football posts. Shame!!! Someone with some extra time should back pedal to last years post here that listed endowments. It would be nice to post for those folks.

Sorry to hear about Blackburn football, that's too bad.

Hope, I'd pay to watch a few teams.  Probably some of the better SLIAC matchups, especially at the end of the year when games are for tournament implications or in the SLIAC tourney.  Id also pay to watch the big regional games or Grinnell, Wash U, other ranked teams or recognized programs, especially when playing the SLIAC.

Id probably spend around $5-15.

Re the poll about paying to watch D3 games online. I responded "Wouldn't pay any amount". Wouldn't matter what school. Randolph-Macon does radio broadcasts of almost all its home games, which I listen to occasionally. I have watched ODAC tournament games free. If I had to pay I wouldn't watch, I'd listen to a radio broadcast. If I couldn't watch or listen I'd follow the live stats. If there were no live stats I'd just wait to find out the result, read any written articles and examine the box score.

For what it's worth, I'd be even less inclined to pay to follow a D1 game via any of the available methods. Nor would I pay to attend a D1 game.

After Webster held off Fontbonne I am expecting to see some good Gorloks basketball tonight. I was blown away by the double over time game. It was one of the best games I have ever seen.

If you can not make it to the Webster/Maryville game tonight, do not forget that you can tune in by visiting http://www.webster.edu/galaxy

FU beats Mac 115-88. Bench has some much needed time. These are the kind of games that make my life easier.

Props when props are due. Farrid Coleman is as good a guard as the SLIAC has. He went for 25 tonite. Sichting met Storandt tonite. He was 5-13 from the feild and 2 of those baskets were against 6'0 defenders late. Storandt was 7-7 14 pts 8 rebs and 4 blks. Miller is one heck of an athlete. Needs to play a little more under control.

FU was led by Chris Forrest with 25 pts. 9-11 from the feild 3-4 from behind the arc. Fogerty 19, Branch 18, McCoy 18. FU shot 64% from the floor.

good game at Webster last night - Maryville played hard to make it interesting, but I just had the feeling that Webster seemed to be doing more things right - and they prevailed winning by 8.  Keep in mind that Maryville had come back from a double digit deficeit to go ahead by 1  with about 5 minutes left - one of my cohorts in the stands said it looked like a repeat of last year's playoff game, but last night Webster dominated the final four minutes.

You Wrestling fans may remember Mr Perfect - well Webster has their own Mr Perfect - Steve Hrdlicka - He went 9 for 9 from the field, 1 for 1 from the line for 20 points - good to see Steve come on as he had not contributed much early in the season, but has come on strong in January.  Steve can't be defined as having 'quicks' or 'jumps' , or even much in the way of great moves with the ball - his success comes from great movement WITHOUT the ball to get open, and going to the basket hard on cuts,  constant motion- he's my kind of player.  Niebrugge and Turk are constants for Webster - they really took over at crunch time - seems to me Scott Restoff had a couple big hoops too - Coach Bunch got ALOT out of his bench last night.

Maryville 3 point shooters Winters and Grunewald were cold last night, and that hurt the Saints. - and Tyler Saxton/Jared McCoy simply are not contributing as they did last year - a little different role for each seems to be a difficult adjustment.  Coach Matt Rogers had to be happy with his big men despite the loss of Aaron Steincke - Baker Simmons and Dulle pretty much dominated the paint and were the key to Maryville's comeback.

One of the fun things about D3 Hoops is you can meet and befriend people within the program - had good conversations last night with Coach Rogers, Webster AD Tom Hart (who presented me with a BIRTHDAY hotdog) and Westminster coach Matt Mitchell (whose team was off last night) - particularly interesting talking to Coach Mitchell regarding Westminster's surprising (to me) success, and his take on the rest of the contenders in the conference. Proud point - his senior guard Jason Warnicke has already been accepted to Med School!!!!

Big night for Fontbonne - they are back!!!  Indeed , Mac used only 6 players - 3 or 4 others saw only a minute or two...
FC  why didn't Fogerty start   (though he saw significant minutes)  sick, or doghouse?

Do you enjoy watching the variety of sporting events that the area Missouri DIII schools put on the playing field?

Then it's time to get a pen anr paper and shoot out a letter to your state representitive.

As we speak, state lawmakers are trying to change how the Mo. State Grant monies are being distributed. They are trying to make these tax dollars (or a major portion) available only to those students attending state universities.

Access Missouri was created to help our state's neediest students. Providing up to $4,600 in tuition support to attend any Missouri college or university. There are approx. 500 studebts at Fontbonne alone that could be effected.

Endowments have been devastated by the Stock Market downturn and investment losses. This could just be the tip of the iceberg. Private Institutions are still trying to see what damage has been done and where to go from here.

These dollars are a HUGE part of the financial aid packaging process. I for one know my wife could not of attended and earned her Fontbonne College degree without this.

This will probably be a death blow to the number of sports that the Private Institutions will be able to field.

Are you ready for the state to try and dictate what type of education your child seeks?

I know it is a choice to send your child to a private school. But, this will deeply cut into the pool of athletes that our area DIII programs have to recruit from. And, only bolster the rosters of intramural teams at state schools.

These are OUR representives and if you have an opinion on this issue, Now is the time to let your voice be heard.

Thanks for the space on this matter

hopefan, where are these posts? I can't find a SLIAC board for football. This is a sad situation, but I have felt that something like this was inevitable for some struggling small schools -- and probably not just in our confernece.

I have mentioned on this board in the past that my late father-in-law taught at Blackburn for 21 years, retiring in 1977. My wife has said that Blackburn did not have a football program when her father was teaching there.
