I would like to commend both teams in the blackburn principia game. both shot decently well the first half and the second half was a pretty intense couple of quarters. Blackburn pulled away and to them congrats on the win.

since weve got a couple of days until the next games. heres my predictions for the next couple of games.

Maryville over Principia... Although principia looked good against blackburn i dont think it will be enough for them to build off of to get a win against an opponent like maryville.

Fontbonne over Blackburn.... even though like stated in one of my previous comments, blackburn and prin both played well this weekend, i dont think  that win is i going to be enough for bc to start a winning streak and if fontbonne continues to make its free throws and 3's they are going to be a force.

Westminister over webster.. i dont have much reason behind this, i just like to see teams beat webster because they consistantly put up solid teams and i like upsets. I do like Warncke though, i think hes a pretty solid player with good hustle.

Eureka over greenville.. Eureka seems to be shooting pretty well right now. Zasada is close to impossible to stopping under the boards and behind him Bell is scoring quite a bit now too. I dont think Ellis or Traeger are going to be able to put up a fight under the boards mainly.

The conference season is half way done  -  so I offer up  All conference (based on Conference only games), Player of the first half, Newcomer of the first half, Frosh of the first half

First Team
PG           Turk : Webster  17 ppg, 4.5 apg  Controls the game
2 guard   Coleman : Mac 18.5 PPG  ,  3.4 apg  Thanks for returning
F            Zasada : Eureka  17 ppg, 9.5 rpg  Great vs Maryville
F           Forrest : Font  19.1 PPG, 9.1 RPG  How does McKinney get these guys?
F           Fogerty : Font 18 ppg, 10.5 rpg  Disappointing in some ways, but still the best

2nd Team
G       McCoy : Fontbonne
G     Warnicke  :  Westmin
G/F   S Crawford Westmin
F       Vislay  :  Westmin
F       Ellis :  Greenville

Apologies to Sykes of Blackburn, Sichting of Mac - I've never seen you play, but your numbers are great -

Newcomer :  Forest : Fontbonne
Frosh :  Simmons : Maryville
PO1st half  : Fogerty Fontbonne

To me Forest Simmons and Fogerty are pretty solid in their respective catagories - this review makes me feel the conference has few impact freshmen at this point, though there are obviously many currently buried who will still be ready to step in next year...
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

ive seen sykes play and i can say hes an agressive player who had two dunks the other night that were both pretty impressive. one was over 2 players from prin. i think he deserves a 2nd team, but other than that i think you are pretty much right on. kudos to you.

SLIAC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK OF JANUARY 19-25

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the athletes of the week for the week of January 19-25.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Blackburn College's Rod Sykes, a junior from Danville, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 19-25. He is the first men's basketball player this season to earn the honor twice.

Sykes, a 6-5 forward, averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds in two games played last week. He also tallied six steals, four assists and two blocks while shooting 44.1 percent (15-of-34) from the floor and 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the charity stripe.

Sykes recorded a double-double with 23 points and 17 rebounds in the Beavers 89-77 victory versus Principia College. Twelve of his 17 rebounds were on the defensive glass, and he shot 8-of-16 (.500) from the field and 7-of-11 (.636) from the free throw line. Sykes added 17 points and nine rebounds in Blackburn's 87-58 loss to Maryville University earlier in the week.

I agree that Sykes is a good player, but two games do not make a season. When WU played at BC Sykes had a decent game -- 8 rebounds, 10 points. But he was in foul trouble the whole game and fouled out in the final 2 minutes, much to the dislike of BC's coach Chandler, who did not hesitate to tell the official that the 5th foul was a bad call. He could have been right, but I was not in position to see what happened. Regardless, lots of players get called for cheap fouls.

i agree with what you are saying but 8 points and 10 boards is not bad either. maybe no one of his most impressive games but that was only one game. he is still avg. 16.1 ppg and 11.6 rpg.  which is not bad. im not trying to argue the point. i just think he does deserve the second team.. first team guys that were put in the previous post by someone.. with those numbers.. yeah! all those guys should be 1st team.

Couple of notes from viewing ncaa stats. FU #1 team fg% 54.1, 3rd 3pt% and 6th reb. margin. Chris Forrest is now third in the country in Fg% at 69.7 %.

Hope I go with:

1st:
WU - R Turk         17 ppg, 4.5 apg, 2.4 a/to ratio
WC - S Crawford 14. 8 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.13 spg
EC  - M Zasada   17 ppg, 9.6 rpg
FU  - B Fogerty    18 ppg, 10.5 rpg
WC - Warncke     14.0 ppg, 1.29 spg

2nd:

FU  -  McCoy        15.0 ppg, 5.38 apg, 2.15 a/to ratio
MU -  Sichting       19.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg
FU  -  Forrest       19.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg (not 9.1)
GC -  Ellis             15.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg
MC - Coleman      18.5 ppg, 3.38 apg, 1.0 a/to ratio

HM:
FU - Storandt
WC - Millard
WC - Vislay
EC - Bell
BC  - R Sykes

Newcomer - WC S Crawford
Freshman -  MC  F Miller
POY          -  WC S Crawford (His team is in first)

Take all these with a grain of salt...I haven't seen anyone play this year.  Mostly my information comes from people who have told me about these players, my knowledge from viewing some of these players in the past, your posts on here, and the stats.

I don't think Coleman is as good as his stats look.  I think his numbers are inflated because he lacks talent around him.  On a better team he has average numbers.

Sykes is good but his team is 1-7 in conference.  He and Coleman are in the same boat.

You say Fogerty is disappointing but still player of the year so far?  Im confused.

I need to see these guys to see who also plays outstanding defense as that is not categorized besides steals.

theoneandonly

i agree with you that Sykes and Coleman are in the same boat both good players on struggling teams but that shouldnt take away from their talents and they should still be 2nd team, in my opinion.

Players are rewarded for their teams ability to perform and their ability to lead that team there.  watch the heisman ceremony, player of the year in any sport.

i disagree with you one...

fcnews

Jrmint- I think you need to re evakuate Forrest, This is a player who comes onto a team that has 3 explosive scorers and two of the best rebounders in the conference. Then proceeds to score a league leading 19 pts. per game and shooting at a nation leading group (69.1 percent). And adds pluses were there are not stats, Besides consideration for 1st team, IF FU gets through this field again, we maybe talking POY. And FU has him for two more years. "Where does McKinney get these", this great kid came through a FORMER Fu player and now Riverview principal.
