I'll be at Webster
As a partial Gorlok fan, I am very glad to see the impartial Hopefan at so many Webster games. ;D

when free hotdogs are thrown my way, where else would I be???? ;D ;D
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Re the commissioner. I would expect that before he was hired a committee was formed of ADs from some of the conference schools. Presumably they wrote a job description, since they were going form a part-time to a full-time commissioner, and sought a person who met the criteria the job description outlined. The people who have to evaluate the performance of the commissioner are those that hired him. If they think he is not doing his job the way they want, then it is up to them to deal with that.

Otherwise, I ditto everything Eureka_sid said, and would add that the departure of Maryville was an institutional decision that had nothing to do with who the commissioner is. If you go to this link http://www.maryville.edu/athletics-d2-faq.htm
you can read that Maryville began in July 2007 to make the move to D2, this was before the new commissioner even began his job.

The issue with Lincoln Christian was not at all that Lincoln Christian left, it was that Lincoln Christian was ever admitted in the first place when it was plainly clear that school was not at all prepared to be a member of Division III.

People throw hot dogs at you? Is that because you won't root openly for their team? ;)

As far as that rant on the commish goes, I don't think the cut backs at Blackburn and Prin for football and the leaving of Lincoln Christian should be pinned on him. I would think these are institutional decisions and a commish can only react to them, not control them.

That's exactly right. The word "commissioner" connotes a position of authority and control, but in the world of intercollegiate athletics a league commissioner's power is extremely limited. The true power rests with the respective member schools, in particular their presidents and athletic directors.

Excellent point, Pat. To me it looks as though the SLIAC was so desperate to find an additional member within its geographical confines that it took in a school that was not prepared to make the switch to D3. You need ten sports (five men, five women) to be a D3 member; LCC has six. Adding four new sports is a huge undertaking for a school of modest means, and LCC's decision to drop out of the D3 probationary process after only one year and return to its NCCAA Division II status quo ante begs the question of how thoroughly LCC's ability and desire to switch to D3 was researched by the SLIAC.

WC up 36-34 at half.  Was up as much as 10 early, Webster got hot late.  S Crawford has around 15 with a few buckets off steals.  Turk is playing well for WU.

Greenville 50-46 with 15:00 to play in the 2nd Half.

Final from Greenville, Ill.

Greenville 84, Eureka 76

From the sounds of the crowd on WGRN, the old gym was rocking tonight at Back to School BLACKOUT.  I caught the second half of the game.  Greenville had a slim lead and continued to build until late (under a minute) and Eureka, as they did in the previous game, battled back late but couldn't complete the fight back.

Greenville needs to hit their free throws late.  I'm assuming that's why Greenville has lost many late games.  You can't go down the stretch and miss key FT's to clinch games.  However, Greenville did win by 12.  But, it was close down the stretch.

Chris "take me" Hohm with 15
AJ Brooks 15
LaPhonso Ellis 13

Michael Zasada with 23

Webster 72 - Westminster 70. Congratualtions to Ryan Turk on scoring the 1,000th point of his career. Great jobs by Steve Hrdlicka and Luke Niebrugge guarding Stanley Crawford in the 2nd half. Crawford is a terrific player.

First time I've seen Westminster. Their record is not a fluke.

FU wins 77-72. We have a two way tie for first. Still might see Tourney in STL. Webster 1 game back, with Greenville and Maryville.

it was a very close and hard fought battle at Blackburn tonight. Forrest couldnt be stopped. Also Baro for Blackburn hit some extremely deep 3's late in the game to keep blackburn it in. Fontbonne did have two technicals in which their players actions were completely uncalled for.

Few things I wanted to touch on a few days back and didn't get a chance too...

SLIAC Commish:  I spoke with Will in both Washington DC and Chicago and Will is a great guy.  I think he has some great ideas about our conference and will lead us in the right direction.  He has some great thoughts on how to improve the league and to assist in getting us on the map.  I'm glad he's on board.

SLIAC Student-Athletes:  Represented at the NCAA III Leadership Conference in Chicago were four SLIAC Schools (Blackburn, Maryville, Webster, and Westminster.)  The Student-Athletes from all four institutions were all enthusiastic about the conference as a whole and their institutions and learned alot about leadership and took many ideas back to their schools on things they can do to foster a better relationship with the general students on campus as well as build a better fan base.  I just wish all nine schools would have attended.

Greenville:  Don't give up on my Panthers just yet.  With five teams all sitting within one game of each other, the door is wide open for the St. Louis Schools, Greenville, and Westminster.  Everyone started to discount the old Panthers.  However, look at the scores.

Greenville has lost three SLIAC Games by a total of 8 points (ave. of 2.2)
Webster has three losses, one by 14 to MacMurray
Maryville has three losses, one by 16 to Fontbonne
Westminster has two losses, one by 12 to Fontbonne
Fontbonne has two losses, one by five to Greenville

All of this to say, I think Greenville was early dismissed when they dropped a couple games.  Again, each of these games were by 3, 3, and 2.  I think Greenville is on the cusp of breaking through.  They will make their maiden voyage to the SLIAC Tournament (since it's reinstatement).  Don't count them out.

(Guys, I know you are reading this, please don't make me to be a fool!!!)

Speaking about FU's technical fouls. I didn't see them but based on the games that I have watched this team play over the past 2 seasons they can get a little hot and don't do the best job of keeping things in. Good team but once they get a little upset they really show it.
