FU Baseball loses a one run game in the first. Not sure who is up next.

Hopefan - As we both know it is very tough to mention to many players as firm for next year at this time. I can say that FU will have another transfer. Power forward who played Juco ball with Forrest. Also there is a 6'9 volleyball player who attended FU this year. Could be a Dressler type player. Great hands. Very athletic.

Think about baseball. Where would of Webster been seeded. They were ranked regionally, I think. I wonder if the better record of Westminister, would of meant much in bracketing. Had they finished the deal. Just thoughts.

Do you own a pet?   Don't take its relationship with you for granted.   Give it an extra touch of affection today....

Yesterday, our yellow lab was diagnosed with cancer....  in a few weeks, hopefully a little longer, we'll go for our last ride to the vet.  She seemed to sense the morose atmosphere around the supper table, laying quietly by our feet.

This morning though, it was as if nothing was wrong - up at the crack of dawn ready to earn her breakfast by running out the driveway to fetch my morning paper for the 3000th day in a row - then take her position by the dining room window to bark at the neighbor kids as they come by the house on the way to the school bus stop.

I've gone thru this before  -  it's always tough....  to lose a member of the family...

His name does not appear among the Eureka athletic department staff: http://www.eureka.edu/athletics/directory.htm

I can't say that it did before, but I expect it would have. I hope he is moving on to bigger and better things. I believe that is his destiny.

Yes, I'm afraid to say this will be one of my last posts, at least while using this screen name. I was fired from Eureka on May 15. If any of my friends on this board would like to know from me personally exactly what happened, feel free to send me a P.M. and I'll tell you all about it. The only opinion I will offer at this time is that I believe Eureka has a lot of potential, but its administration is holding it back. Decisions are being made based too much on personal preference by people who are supposed to have the overall department or college in mind.

Here are some facts that back up my position:

-- I was hired at Eureka in August of 2005. Every head and assistant coach of every sport that was coaching at the time of my hiring is no longer coaching at Eureka.

-- At the time of my firing, I had been at Eureka the 2nd longest of any of the 24 head coaches, assistant coaches or staff members associated with the athletics department. I was 26 years old at the time.

-- 9 of the 17 sports at Eureka have seen a head coaching change since the current AD took over in May of 2008, including 3 sports that have had 2 changes.

-- In 2008-09, Eureka had an overall win-loss record from all sports that keep records of 68-155 for a .305 winning percentage...the worst mark in my 4 years at Eureka by a significant amount.

--By comparison, all but one of Greenville's 14 sports is coached by someone that has been there at least 5 years. Eureka was 1-15 vs. Greenville in conference play in 2008-09.

I want to thank all of our readers and fans out there that have made following the SLIAC so much fun over the years. I hope I was able to add some entertainment value for you with my reports on Eureka athletics. I did it mostly as a service to the fans as far as this board goes, but it was nice to promote some fine student-athletes as well. It was great to meet new people and make new friends, some of whom I will to stay in contact with in the years to come. I hope everyone continues to support their favorite teams and players. They deserve as much attention and encouragement as we as fans can give them.

I'm not sure what is next for me professionally. I will likely reappear on this board under a new name and keep you posted that way. If someone knows if I can change my name and keep my posts and karma, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll just go for a fresh start.

Thanks especially to FC, Hopefan and Y_jak for your kind words. You are all true gentlemen of the game of life.

Ugh  -  What a shame - The thing I liked most about Eureka SID was telephone conversations in the car after games - I'd pass on a score or two I had, he'd let me know what happened up north in Eureka.  His enthusiasm over a Eureka win was boundless, his disappointment over a loss always obvious  -  but one thing I always admired was that he would tell it like it happened  -  no excuses  -  who played well, who didn't play well  -  that forthrightness, also expressed in his previous fairwell, could be exactly what got him into hot water.  If he wants to continue being an SID, there is a SLIAC school in ST. Louis (no not Webster), who would do well to consider hiring him..... Brian good luck - if I can be of any assistance, you know how to reach me....

Eureka's loss, somebody else's gain. And I hope you wind up someplace making lots more money. You're worth it!

It's a shame when politics trump professionalism. This one was a shock to this poster.

Any word on the summer league going on now? What teams are doing well?

hopefan

good question ac, I'd completely forgotten about it  -   wonder if FC knows anything?

It's hard to sit here, 840 miles away, and watch schools do stupid things that hurt themselves and the SLIAC. First came the Maryville D II decision, then the Blackburn football decision, and now Eureka has fired, arguably, the best SID in the conference.

In a league that suffers from mediocre to poor SID operations, Brian Sullivan stood out like a beacon. Only Webster has a better one and they have a lot of resources than does Eureka.

Brian is an energetic, smart, loyal young man who will land on his feet. I'm not sure Eureka will.

Well put Commish.

About summer league. I can only speak of what I know. Webster beat FU on the first nite of play by 7. FU beat WC handily with Stanely Crawford. Also, FU blew out MU bad. Gruenwald, Simmons and the boys were down 60-40 2 half.

The summer league is definately not what it used to be. With kids living to far away to participate. FU's summer roster consisted of the following: Branch, Sheetz, Rapp, Riva, Buford, Melloway and Ramkin.

Miss the days of the old Anthony Bonner Summer League.

Also, Fontbonne has a new contract starting on their website. Should go live in August. The new company seems to be much more athletic department Friendly.
