FC        I think Yjak could recommend a recent college grad he's close to if you're looking for an editor for your memoirs!!!!    Hope I can get an autographed copy when it comes out!!!

hopefan, thanks for that. I'm sure the recent college grad you mention would be pleased with the recommendation. That said, from the several pieces I've read I think fc writes with an honesty and authenticity that is best treated with a very light hand by any editor. His material might not grasp the attention of a mainstream publisher, but there are many ways to get things self-published and have a high quality, professional product. I look forward to reading more of his work.

Thanks for the compliment Yjak. Mom and the FU grad (who's cancer free) are doing a pretty good job of being my spell check. But, your right. Some things they change for grammar purposes and I end up telling them that I meant it the way I wrote it. Up to about 12 chapters. I'm leaving room for one chapter dedicated to Hopefan. ;D :o ::)

fc, some things people write can benefit from substantial editing, but your pespectives are unique and your voice comes through distinctively in your prose and from the stand point of someone who knows you I think you are right to stick to your guns when you really want something to sound a certain way.

Yjak- It's getting close to the time to fire up the SLIAC Soccer chat boards. Need to try and get Hopefan to a match.

Yep, I'm looking forward to soccer. I think in this instance we need to rename hopefan hopelessfan. Some say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but furbug has become a soccer convert over the past 2-3 seasons. He made an intentional effort to learn about, understand and appreciate the sport. Some people just aren't openminded enough to do that and will forever remain unteachable old dogs. :(

hopefan

now then - I'm more inclined to think that the both of you, including the bugman, are more enamored with the soccer of your favorite school, as compared to the sport itself -  ie if Fontbonne had a homegame, and Webster was up in Eureka, would Yjak go to see the Fontbonne game for the sake of seeing Soccer- the same with FC - would he go to see Webster play if they were home and Font was on the road???

If I was a  big fan of a single school like each of you 2 are, I might be more inclined to branch out to other sports - as it is with no real loyalties pulling at my heart and not knowing the players, I'm not inclined to hit the "pitch"..

Question, with the women's soccer, are any of the women basketball players playing soccer - that is one element that could draw me out of the cocoon.....   for a men's game, it would take free food and drink..... :D ;D :D ;D

hopefan, your first paragaph is basically correct when it comes to our local D3 teams. Having said that, I have gone over to Wash U to see an occasional game, once a couple of years ago when their women's team was playing #1 ranked Wheaton (a game played in cold October rain). Also last season when my wife's alma mater's men's team was playing Wash U. Of course I joined you over there once for a women's game against Carnegie Mellon because your high school classmate's daughter played for CM. Recently I watched much of the St. Louis Athletica game against the Boston Breakers televised on Channel 11. When I am walking on the teadmill at the fitness club I will choose soccer, if I find a game being televised, over everything except Cardinals baseball.

I began to appreciate soccer in the 60's when I would watch the Randolph-Macon team play. Then I went to Brazil with the Peace Corps and that cemented my appreciaton for the sport. While there in 1969 I was fortunate enough to attend a Brazil vs Paraguay World Cup regional elimination game which Brazil won 2-0. That Brazilian team was terrific and went on to win the 1970 World Cup.

I am not aware of any women's basketball players at Webster who also play soccer right now. There was one, but she gave up basketball last season to concentrate on soccer and softball.

FU starts Caitlan Brammel and Kendra Schilli. Plus another dual sport girl from Perryville who is joining Schilli this year.

It's alot easier game to keep stats for Hope.  ;D

Since we're on the topic of soccer I'd like to point out the success of the womens young soccer program at Eureka.  I believe in it's first year it was the most successful first year program in the nation.  Coach Crady does a good job recruiting talent and Eureka should field another skilled team this year.

With football approaching I've been very caught up in fantasy football leagues....this lead me to think about fantasy basketball.  If you we're drafting a fantasy team using SLIAC players who would be you're number 1 pick?

hopefan

EC - I'll give you credit, you come up with interesting stuff....   I've never been involved with fantasy sports - in a typical hoops scenario, what are the normal rewards and negatives valued at - ie what all counts?  points, rebounds, assists, or does it diversify to shooting %, 3 point stats, ft shooting, turnovers, fouls etc.... I'd have to know that before I chose....  I'm thinking any of the first teamers that you or I mentioned previously would be candidates, but I'd need more to go on as to the 'EC 14 rules of the game' in order to select.

Every one else has tossed out their All Returners. Here is my two cents.
1st Team-
Forrest - FU
Crawford - WC
Zasada - EC
Sykes - BC ( will he be back?)
Sichting - MC

2nd Team
Ellis - GC
Millard - WC
Jones - WU
Bell - EC
Branch - FU

I left Ellis off the first team (sorry Pride) for one reason, he has had the oppurtunity to put GC on his back and carry them. But hasn't, still nice player. Jones might be a suprise. But, like Forrest, had to get his time and shots amongst alot of seniors.

A lot will change between now and the first off the year.

Yjak- Heard that WU has several Juco coming in this year. Also, will the Miller kid be able to get in shape enough for the pace of the SLIAC game. Heard he was playing in the summer league. Glad he made it back from the foot.

y_jack_lok

fc, you know lots more than I do. WU will be a very different looking team this year. Always hard to predict the impact a JUCO transfer might have. For Webster Tim McDoniel was a good one in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003, and Luke Niebrugge was a real find the past two seasons. My memory may be bad, but other than those two I can't think of any JUCO transfers to Webster who've made a big impact in the eight seasons I've been going to games. Not to worry though, Coaches Bunch and Seiner will put together a competitive team.
