I'd say co favorites for the conference season  -  the tournament will be undetermined until I see how the conference season goes ::) ::)

Soccer.....  I think I'll stick to the 4:00 open gym musings on the hardwood  -  at least basketball doesn't have that silly 'offsides' call ;D ;D

However, I am intrigued that my favorite Fontbonne lady Griff hooper also plays soccer......

Yea Hopefan, but in soccer you can holler at the refs as much as you want. As long as you start or end your rant with Sir. ;D

I'm not going out and saying FU is going to be hosting. But, I will say that I don't expect to see GC on top.

GC's Cochran has transferred to Wheaton College. Not sure if he's planning on playing basketball. I don't see that. He fell way off last year after being name Newcomer his freshmen year.

What are the chances Cochran is good enough to play for Wheaton?

fcnews

From what I saw of the Wheaton bench at the NCAA Tourney, I'd say not real good.

Being familiar with both schools, that is a very interesting transfer - Wheaton plays such a cerebral, "solid" game, I'm inclined to agree that Cochrane would have to tone his game way down to fit in - on the other hand, you can't teach guys to be quick like he is - if he wants to continue to play, I'd say he at least would be a good possibility of making the team.  I'm disappointed for Greenville and the SLIAC to lose a player like that, but as I mentioned before, I really thought Greenville was better at the end of the season with Rashod Seaton at the point.

I only saw Cochran play once, but based upon what I saw I'd say that he'd definitely make the Wheaton team. He wouldn't be any higher than the fourth guard in Wheaton's rotation, though; Wheaton already has three guards (Aaron Garriott, Andrew Jahns, and Jeremy Pflederer) who are better.

I also think Cochran's size will not transfer well to the CCIW game. I thought Pflederer was a great player last year (in the games I saw) and should be a big difference with the departure of WC's All Everything. Jahns is also a very nice player.

Hopefan - I think a conference title for the Griff's this year might be a stretch.
Your talking about a team that graduated a two time POY and scoring champ (Fogerty) , the SLIAC's version of Dennis Rodman in Storandt and probably the most successful point guard in SLIAC history in McCoy. FU loses about 21 rebounds a game in just Storandt and Fogerty.

These are large shoes to fill and to be consider a front runner for the conference title. That might be a lot to ask. But, if I was in Vegas I'd definately check the odds of a conference tourney title and lay a buck or two.

Also, on the soccer subject, there will be no fewer then 5 lady cagers on this years Fontbonne soccer team.

Looking at Spalding's incoming recruits gives me shivers. This team is not eligable for the SLIAC Tourney. Mark my word though, they will play a huge part in who makes the final four.

What a tough road trip.

Fontbonne would like to welcome back Maria Eftink. An FU grad who play for the Lady Griff's, you have to remember her 6'2 blonde starter (also 4 yrs. of VB). Maria was recently hired as the new Associate Athletic Director. She spent 18 months interning with the NCAA and was an Asst. Athletic Director of External Fundraising at DI Evansville.

She is great people and it's nice to see the student athletes return to lend a hand with the program. Maria will be an A.D. one day, somewhere.

FC    let's make her the SID as long as she's here  -  I'll be glad to work with her in the winter!!!! ;D ;D

Hopefan I told you the FU athletic department is a three person department. AD, Assoc., and a secretary. Three people keeping 20 sports up and going. We have a building suprv. / event coordinator that handles all the goings on in the DSAC. He also does the best he can with the SID needs (programs, reporting scores, sending stats to NCAA, ect.), but isn't paid as such.

Now if you would like to make a sizeable donation, we might see what we can do. ::)

Don't get caught living in the past - THAT money is gone.  The market is now up 5 straight months, for a total gain of 3,000 points on the DJIA.

It may take years to recover to where it was in the fall of '07, but the recovery can make you money NOW.

[I am not a broker, or even a retired broker, and this is not a 'sales' recommendation; just a suggestion from a friend who lost several hundred thousands on paper, but has gained much of it back recently.  And a damned good thing, since I'm already retired! :o :D]
