one and only   -  that's great news  -  would love to see BC get back in the mix - most fun place in the conference to watch a tight game!!  I was a big fan of Beaver Basketball several years ago!!!

FC  -  nope, all inclusive 15 miles East of Montego Bay   -  maybe Negril and Rick's next time!!!!
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Hope are you at the Rose Hall ? Although I think it's changed names. It's golf course is where the Johnny Walker Open used to be held.

Yea, You beat me to my correction. That's where the FC basketball team stayed in '97. Watch out for the Rosehall witch. Have you seen the old aquaducts that are on the property?

Add another name to the FU transfers. Jahmal Thomas 6'7 F from Southeast Missouri State, who did not use a year of elgibilty there.

ac slater

Do not know much detail, but Westminster got a lot of players. two 6'7s and some very athletic forwards/guards.

Anyone who hasn't been to the SLIAC conference website since yesterday might want to read the lead article on the death of NCAA president Myles Brand: http://www.sliac.org/

In my thoughts. Loss of a good man. Did a good job, in a very tough position.

I guess no one is saying anything? I am new to this chat room but I am a fan of Division 3 hoops. If you have to know my team is ..............  ??? :P  but I do not have a kid on the team. That is all I want to say about my selft but I am ready to chat. Well the season is going to start so lets get the chat going!! ;D

hopefan

Welcome, Love  uvda Game -   yep, chat has been hard to come by - Only one of the regulars of this room really has access to inside info and he rightfully withholds it until he can be certain of his facts.  My previous contacts with Maryville had pretty much dried up, and are now meaningless to the SLIAC room anyway.   So I don't expect a whole lot to come up here until the games, or at least practices, start, and various writers chime in with info that at least allows some speculation.  Heck, at this point, we don't even have any new names from anyone with the exception of Fontbonne...

One of the things that has been on my mind since the end of last season has been the actions of fans at games  -  that could be a juicy topic.   Last season, mid year, I critiqued a couple of fans and their actions toward officials...  it turned out to be a positive, as there was acknowledgement  by several and even apologies, and much improved behavior the rest of the season.  Unfortunately I nearly stroked out during a Fontbonne lady's game the last week of the season as I got so angry at some fellow who was berating officials from the beginning of the game to the end.  My comment to him was that I could possibly understand his actions if he was always right, but he was wrong 90% of the time.

Why am I so sensitive to it - well, I don't have a particular strong tie-in to any particular team or player, and I'm there to enjoy the competition, not to listen to some 'know-nothing' scream at the officials.   But why is this behavior accepted by schools?  How hypocritical is it to read a statement on sportsmanship prior to the game, but allow unsportsmanlike conduct to continue throughout the game in the stands.

My attitude, come to the game and use the energy to support the players, don't waste it yelling at the refs because you disagree with the call.   If anything chases me away from attending D3 games, it will be this problem - something that doesn't even occur on the floor.

Another point brought to my attention the other day is the disappointing home schedule of the St. Louis teams early in the season - niether Webster or Fontbonne play at home the fist 2-3 weeks of the season.  Wash U opens Nov 15 with Mac at home, but then is also away the next couple weeks.  Looks like there will have to be some travel early on to see any kind of D3 game.  Now then, I hate to bring it up, but that new D2 team in town does have a couple home games during that stretch - but of course, you gotta pay $$$ to see the 'upgrade' ::)

Every season I pledge to myself that I am going to rein in my emotions and not get loud in reaction to the officials. I have made that same pledge this season. On Sunday I was at a soccer game and caught myself getting vocal at calls or non-calls. If I'm going to fulfill my promise I'm going to need the help of a steady, guiding hand. Any volunteers?

Yjak - Missed calls in soccer are much more obvious, then those in BBall. You'll do just find.

yeah calls are bad but you know what is worst is teams losing it before the season to start. Heard from a player at Webster that the players and coach are not getting along. This could be a long year
