Tourney tonight at Webster should be good - all four teams are relatively evenly matched (to put a positive spin on it) - will be fun to see if the Webster Maryville game has the same intensity as when they were conference rivals.  Maryville looking for 1st win already beaten badly by Millikin has some incentive, and Webster coming off loss to MacMurray needs to get things restarted.  Mo Bap has played a crazy schedule ranging from solid D2 to Bible schools no one has ever heard of - I'm looking forward to seeing what level they play at versus Millikin. Yjak, Furbug - will see you there....

Eureka gets another good win at the Reagan Center

First half of the game was all EC.  Zasada picked up 2 quick fouls and had to sit the bench much of the first half but it didnt matter.  Kameron Bell was on fire and helped Eureka to a double digit lead early.  Red Devils played good defense on Ellis forcing him into a number of tough shots and dominated the boards the first half to help them get a 19 point lead going into the break.

2nd half started out much of the same way.  Eureka stretched its lead to almost 30 pts at one point in the second half.  Greenville began to chip away at the lead but the hole they dug themselves into was too deep to get out.  The last 6 minutes of the game were very ugly with fouls being called nearly every trip down the court.  Kindred fouled out with about 6 minutes left which hurt Eureka a little big.  With him out of the game the offense wasn't running as smoothly and EC took some ill advised shots.  If Eureka didnt shoot 14-28 at the line the game would have never gotten within 20pts.  Eureka wound up winning by 11.

Bell had another outstanding game with 38pts 12 reb.  Only blemish was his 7TO's but it was still another Player of the Week preformance.

Zasada had a double double with 16pts 11reb.  Kindred had a nice game with 9pts 6reb 5ast and only 1TO.  A number of Red Devils contributed off the bench.

Eureka has its next 2 games against Knox and Dominican before X-Mas.  Looks like Eureka will be tough to beat especially if they can keep the TO's down and Assists up.  Last night they had 20 ast to 16 TO.

Hopefan - I know this might be a stupid question. I know you don't have the same contacts at Maryville. But, I noticed Simmons hasn't been in their boxscores. Injury?
Webster should be familar with MU. Saxton, Winters, Gruenwald and Dulle had been starting for them.

Was wondering the same thing FC  -  good player  -  he had back problems last year  -  he's on the roster, so assumedly he's still at Maryville.

Well Hopefan got his wish. A 1 point game. But, what a strange looking boxscore. WU up 30-17 at half. MU wins 61-60 on a buzzer beater. Wow, Jones 1-10 and Josue' Whitcombe didn't start or score. Looks like WU played 10 players  solid double didgit minutes. MU gets it's first W of the young year.

I'm sure we'll have the full story from Hopefan in the morning.

January 2nd will bring us an important SLIAC contest. As the red hot Eureka comes to visit Fontbonne. An interesting match up of two players being lobbied for POYT. Kameron Bell and Josh Branch. I don't think we'll see a straight headed match up though. FU will have to find someone to slow down the high scoring Bell. FU needs to remember the game EC stoled on their home floor last year.

:)FC you had to see it to believe it - a duplicate of the first gameof the night featuring 2 points

1) Two teams playing bad basketball
2)    the team that was losing the whole game, that just looked awful, coming back and winning in the last seconds.....

Mo bap gets fouled shooting a 3 pointer, down two, their player makes all 3,  Millikin comes down the court and misses the winning jumper.

Maryville behind the whole game, crazy substituting more than EVER, but Webster plays so poorly that Maryville catches them, Webster hits the two pointer atabout 7 seconds for the apparent game winner, Maryville gets a wide open look at a 3 at the buzzer and sticks it......

No names - these guys TRY - I could fill the page with comments but will refrain.

Mr Maryville President....  were you at the game?   Were you at all the 30 point loss games?   Which was the better experience?
Tony Matt  get the heck out of there before your careers go down the drain with this delusion.

Why has Maryville gone D2, then taken scholarshps AWAY.

I loved the game last night, but we won't see this matchup again in a meaningful conference game

What a stupid move by a new President who doesn't get it, who never answered my DIRECT emails last year

the old hopefan, the wrong side of the bed this morning....

Crazy subs? For which team are you speaking? For once MU boxscore looks like the best got the majority of minutes. Now WU is trying to play 12. Any word or Simmons last nite? And what is the deal with Whitcombe? If I'm not mistaking wasn't he All Sliac last year?

Can you elaborate on the D2 and taking scholarships away statement.

Now the rematch of the 46-44 game.

Hope any answers would be appreciated.

Crazy subs- both teams -
Maryville Simmons out for year with Shoulder Surgery  -  Remaining big men made Webster's Miller look like an All American

Subs I'm not going to mention by name as far as minutes... but it was mind boggling for MU...

The absolute strangest though, seemed to be Bunch's sub of Berton Wong to handle the ball the last two minutes of the game when Maryville was pressing... Strickland or Trippet would have seemed to be better options, and while Wong moonballed two fts in, he had a turnover and a foul during that time that were critical... (though in no way leading directly to the loss)...  one or two other guys can shoulder that...

And how could Maryville's one shooter get an open look like that..........

The scholarship story came from a very reliable source    budget cuts will cut MU's schols to less than half that Rodgers was expecting...

Matt    Get out   come back to D3....  it's a dirty world Down there in D2.....

Whitcombe  -  either he or Bunch has packed it in
Jones...  hard to understand..  but he'll join Whitcombe on the bench if he doesn't start to perform

Maybe the game has passed me by  -
Cause I'm boggled.....

Maybe the game has passed me by

This is one statement that seems to pop up frequently. And, I've yet to figure out what it means. ???

Ok, they added a shot clock, a three point line and reinstated the dunk. But it is still the same game. That is what makes this the best game in the world. Maybe for some blackjack is a close second, LOL.

Whitcombe may be that senior virus? But, I thought he'd paid his dues and maybe it's just FU he always well against.
Seems Ortwerth is losing time to Miller. It's the SLIAC WU still has plenty of time to right the ship.

Don't lose faith in the game Hope. Hang in their.

I use that when decisions are made that I don't understand - assuming the people making them are more knowlegeable than I, I say the game must have passed me by - that I would be ill equipped to make those decisions if called upon to do so...

Webster looked worse today than yesterday - never in the game vs Millikin...   I now have no clue who the fourth team in the conference tourney will be, as Webster certainly didn't play at a level above BC GC or Mac.....   it's an open spot.

Hopefan,

Wouldnt it be quicker if you and fcnews called or texted each other instead of wasting space on the sliac wall? ;D

"Wasting space"? What are you trying to do ... shut down this room? Hopefan and fcnews are the two people who keep this place going.

"I believe a lot of Fontbonne faithful quietly hopes that cast never comes off."

Insider - After such a horrible statement you made about a young man this past August, I'm sure you could help this board with your postive thoughts. If this is the kind of stuff you want to see on here, HAVE AT IT.

I started this thread many years ago. And, I can end my part real quick. I enjoy the banter amongst the few we do have. But, I guess this space would be better served with deep discussions between you and LOTG, over the virtues of a single player.

Peace All. I had one nerve left and that was it. Enjoy the games. Out!

Yikes what happened?  FC is now a guest, and whatever comments drove him overboard have been deleted....   I never even saw them.....

FC or not, I'm going to continue reporting and editorializing  -  I hope FC comes back....
