SLIAC,

I would first like to apologize for the stress and confusion that has occurred on this website the past couple of days.

Secondly, I'd like to clear the air as I did not make the alleged post about former Fontbonne players.  In the last couple days I have received concerned calls/texts from DIII advocates informing me that my name and character has been unfortunately misrepresented.  I have talked to FU head coach Lee McKinney about this issue, and he and I agreed I should make this post to clear my name from this issue.

As a former WC player/captain, I have much respect for FU and the success they have had in the SLIAC.  I do not believe any of this success was because of "sports enhancing drugs".  I have developed a friendship with many former FU players and I believe their success was because of hard work and nothing else.  I have also been in contact with a former FU player and parent about this issue, to assure them I didn't make these false statements.

While at WC I had an account on this site to simply check what as going on in the SLIAC, as I never made a post.  I rarely ever check this site anymore since I left the SLIAC, until the past couple of days.  Numerous people and computers had access to the account, and I couldn't begin to tell you who does and doesn't have access to the account.

Sorry this took me a couple of days to do.  I have been extremely busy with hoops season the past couple of days, and wanted to first talk to Coach McKinney before I took action.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me at landon.kurz@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Landon Kurz

From a technological standpoint, I just have to say there is no way I can corroborate anything he's said here. Fact is, everyone is responsible for their own password security, like with any password.

Pat, if Landon Kurz (seemingly "Zach Morris") never posted, and rarely even checks this site, any clue how "FrostBite" got involved in this brouhaha?

Same person, different names?

A couple of people I respect told me to let this drop, so I have  -  that's not to say my level of curiosity and distress over the issue don't remain at an extremely high level.....

BREAKING NEWS.

I have a confirmed report that three recent Fontbonne players consistently took performance enhancing drugs over their four year careers. Because of this extreme acquisition I would not post this if it did not know it was true; I heard it from a very very reliable source.  I think this is a disgrace to the SLIAC and their recent success.

What a shame.
So, this was first posted by someone with the screen name "Zach Morris", with the following e-mail address:

kurzlj@westminster-mo.edu

Then the post disappears for 10 minutes or so, but reappears...this time posted by "FrostBite", email:

fultonmo2009@yahoo.com

Real easy to post whatever you want when hiding behind a fake screen name(s), huh?

I had previously posted that I thought this should be dropped and I stand by that.  I mean, I do not think we should call Kim Anderson to complain.  But the situation is so interestingly stupid that I cannot help but follow it.  Its the closest thing we have to celebrity TMZ-style news in the Division III world.

I had really hoped that someone would take full responsibility for the post to let everyone move on.

The interesting thing about the "Landonk" screen name is that it was created in the hours after the post-gate scandal occurred:

Dear Landon,
If you did really receive calls immediately after the scandal and created the screen name that very night, then I have to accept your statement.  But understand that you would have had 40 minutes on a Saturday night from the time Titan Q quoted the post to get calls from others and check out what was done in your name and create the new profile.  And, some will find that hard to believe.

I think everyone has passed along gossip in the past.  And, everyone has done something stupid.  If you did in fact post the gossip, it is time to admit your mistake, apologize, and put and end to this.  If I were you, and I was guilty, I would admit that I wrote the latest post because I am sorry and I am concerned about my reputation and career.

And, if you absolutely did not do it, then, OK, I accept it and I wish your team good luck in the MIAA conference play.

If you really think about it - it all seems to easy to track back to Landon for me and he is concerned enough to address this issue on this board.  Enough!

Lets hear some good info on the flurry of games that have begun.

Hopefan - I agree EC is charged... missed them at FU but thinking about attending at Webster - weather maybe a factor.  Always a good day to see Webster get some knocking around on the floor!   :D

I hope EC is ready for the second meeting with Fontbonne!

You make a good point, for sure, but if you are convinced that Landon did it, then you would have to admit that he did not address this on the board.  Instead, he lied about it.  And, that is the intriguing part for me.

My opinion is that we should not dignify this accusation with further discussion. It was done in a cowardly manner, and the original poster is perhaps taking a certain measure of delight in seeing all this consternation. :(

I have to agree, everyone needs to get over it. I dont believe it is true and we dont need to start any other rumors. The kid from WM needs a slap to the wrist and let it be over with. He is prob. still mad about what FU did to his team in the Tourny.

New to the board...just wanted to say hopefan...have been reading for about a year and a half now and always enjoy your insight on the games and the conference.  Big game tonight hopefully can get some updates on here tonight.

Things are tightening up:

Jan. 6
Westminster (Mo.) 64, at Spalding 60
Fontbonne 80, at Blackburn 77
at Webster 64, Eureka 56

Yikes  it snowed!!!

Well,  Eurekafan2233 and the rest, Coach Bunch did it to me again...   He fooled me for an entire non conference season by experimenting with this lineup and that, benching players for stretches at a time unti 'they got it'    well SLIAC, it appears they get it now...

Solid Webster defense really took Eureka totally out of their offense...  numerous penetrations to the basket by Kindred and Bell were totally out of control, resulting in turnovers or ridiculous shot attempts that never hit a thing but air or backboard... seriously, Kam Bell, quit the junk shots and go all the way to the hole - you'll get fouled!!!    And Leppert, and the bench came back to earth  they really contributed nothing.  Zasada was forced away from the basket and contributed less than normal - also seemed to suffer a lower body injury diving for a ball with 10 minutes left - gutted it out the rest of the way, but I saw some grimaces....  Depth may hurt this team more than I thought after seeing how Webster's bench came through last night.

and for Webster.... they totally out defended and out physicalled Eureka  -  Drew Moore had several big offensive rebounds and put backs and clearly was the player of the game - Robby Meeh, John Ortwerth, Kev Miller all just pushed the Eureka players around inside - also noticed that Meeh did a heck of a job working over Zasada, Michel will be a sore guy this morning.  Good guard play too... Strickland has changed his game so much to getting the ball up and the offense started....  Ball movement was great, and it resulted in good shots all night.

admirable  -  with the weather forecast predicting blizzard, there were still some Eureka parents at the game that likely drove down from N Illinois... hope they all made it home safe

also  - Eureka ladies coach - I've seen her team twice now, they're not very good, but wow, this lady coach really stays in the game, coaches to the last second  -  anybody reading, I'd highly recommend her.... they were down 25 in second half with limited talent but got it back to 10 before wilting..... with only 8 dressed, 7 playing  -  Webster came in waves.....

Westmin and Fontbonne barely win on the road....  this thing might be a closer race than I thought....  but one thing for sure, Webster has reestablished themselves as a tourney contender...

Next BIG game    Mac at Font    Fontbonne needs to take care of their home court, or they will be falling dangerously off the playoff pace.    And watch out for Greenville at Westmin - Greenville is way overdue...

Looking at box scores... Branch and Forrest both had terrific games and they were needed as Fontbonne squeaks by at BC  -  always a tough place to play  -   Hamilton and Zoelner have very solid games off the bench, Lisch doesn't play?  What's with that?  He did take an elbow  vs Eureka, but i doubt that kept him out....

Westmin only scores 64 points in beating Spalding, but has 5 players in double figures, and Ky Millard gets a double double with 12 points 12 boards....

Webster Eureka have the same amount of Field goals, but Webster makes 13 of 16 from the line, Eureka 5 of 5....    Webster bench gets 20 points, eureka gets 7.  Bell 4 of 15, 3 turnovers; Zasada 7 turnovers.   Webster 14 offensive rebounds.

people outside the conference will laugh, but MacMurray just might be a legit dark horse candidate for a conference tourney slot - their record reads 1-9, but 7 nonconf losses are all to top notch competition ( well, Hanover is down this year), the two conference losses are to leaders Eureka and Westmin, and the win is over Webster who just beat Eureka.  The next two weeks are huge for Mac as the Saturday game with Fontbonne will really establish where they are in the early pecking order, and  they then get BC, GC, and PC - all winnables if Mac is to challenge.    I remember Webster did the exact same thing several years ago, won only a game or two, then ended up winning the conference....   it's certainly not an alltogether bad strategy.....
