I'm not going to add a whole lot to Blue's writeup...  in reality, the two games were similar...  the winning team opened a big lead, Webster and Mac both had nice comebacks in the second half cutting the lead to 9 or 10 points, but couldn't sustain, and Westmin and Eureka pulled away...

Kindred and leppert are very athletic  -  their quickness more than anything else, beat Mac...They would beat people, others would help, and Bell and Zasada wou;ld get the ball relatively open...

on dunks....  sorry there are two sides to every story....  Both Vislay and Gilmore could have been hit with T's for their dunks....   The hanging for safety is one thing, but the pulling themselves up, twisting etc, is supposedly against the rules....  The Webster player wouldn't have been landed on and pushed back if the dunk hadn't been so theatrical.       On the other hand, it sure did rev the crowd.... My favorite dunk of the night really was from Leppert of Eureka, because I didn't know he could do it... thing of beauty for a 6'1" guard, and no Hollywood stuff....

Tomorrow's game should be a great one, though I have to look at Westmin as the favorite with a little more patience on offense, less propensity to turn it over, and the home court... but if Eureka gets on a roll......
Remember too that awards are made after the tourney is over... All Conf, All tourney

Do division 3 ncaa schools receive money for winning national championships?

No. They get a trophy, informally known as the Walnut and Bronze, and that's it. (Oh, and the two basketball teams that win the national championship are typically allowed to cut down a net and keep it.)

The NCAA reimburses the participating schools for their travel and hotel expenses, which is a significant difference from the pay-your-own-way NAIA.
Travel Reimbursement for Division III - Men's & Women's Basketball Guidelines:

Travel Party - 20; Max Team Size - 15; Standard Team Per Diem Allowance $80; Ground Transportation Budget - $2,500 and $1.25 per mile
Institutions are responsible for adhering to the official NCAA Travel Policies.

If teams approved to fly (500 mile rule) a separate, pre-approved budget amount is communicated to the schools.

Please note: The above applies to Championship Travel Policies; and, I am taking that as Final Four.  I sure there are other guidelines for the 'road to Salem' but I was not able to find them quickly.  Assuredly, those guidelines are communicated to the schools.  In short, there is no 'pot of gold' like Div I.  And, having taken a quick look at Div 1, the budget are far more generous in every way.

Pat Coleman

The entire tournament is referred to as the championship, so those guidelines would apply throughout.

So if a team 499 miles away from a site chose to fly, would the NCAA not even give them a nickel ?? Additionally, how do you feed 20 people on $80 a day ??

1. I don't know if they would get the ground distance or not, but ignoring the travel guidelines would not be wise.
2. 20 x 80 = $1600.

I guess the NCAA definition of "per diem" is the question. $1600 a day is ridiculously high if that's meals only. And it still seems high if it includes the hotel stay. I've seen where teams stay for conference tournaments and regular season away games; to be honest the average Joe isn't likely to afford that. So I think $1600 allows for needless extravagance.

The NCAA has taken a lot of interest in the student-athlete experience in recent years and determined that adding to the per diem was the best way to do it. I doubt that there are too many college students that don't appreciate having the ability to buy a couple souvenirs from their NCAA Tournament experience without having to worry about it, Dr. Curmudgeon.

Pat I've never had a problem with our disagreements over the years but why the name calling ?? This is twice. I'm not demanding that teams survive on a loaf of bread, a pound of lunch meat and shady hotels each day but perhaps a little less per diem would allow for a national championship instead of a national tournament; which is what we have.

The NCAA should provide appropriate accommodations. All I said was that $1600 a day seemed a little high.

I don't know whether or not you've watched these teams 'chow down' at tournament time --- they consume enormous amounts of food.  Also, remember as you advance you get into meal and time conflict schedule situations where the only real choice is  group meals in the hotel.  Not inexpensive.
