Just FYI...

In 2010-11 IWU will have a graduate assistant on the coaching staff for the first time.  Shortly after last season ended, the Athletics department posted for the job and had a huge number of applicants.  A few weeks ago Buddy Sodemann was selected.

Sodemann, who played for Division III Westminster (Fulton, Mo), comes from a basketball family.  His father Bill just retired after 22 seasons as head coach at Parkway West High School in St. Louis.  His older brother Chip, who played at Truman State, was recently named head coach at Washington High School in Missouri.  And his younger brother Patrick, who played for his dad at Parkway West, is heading to Truman State next year on a basketball scholarship.

Buddy was an assistant coach under Mark Edwards at Wash U last year.  I believe he'll be on the IWU staff for 2 years at which time another grad assistant will be hired for a 2-year term.

(Assistants David Steinbrueck and Dave Feeney will both be back next year.)

Coach McKinney of Fontbonne has recently had a very discouraging medical prognosis, and faces an extremely difficult treatment and recovery period over the next several months.

Please D3hoops and SLIAC fans, Fontbonne friends and foes, keep Coach Mckinney and his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers......

Coach you are loved and admired by many, and you are one tough nut....  let's get another win in this battle.....

From the McKinney Family

Coach has been diagnosed with Non - Small Cell Lung Cancer. There were no symptoms and this was only found during his annual check up. The cancer marker in his blood work were elevated. This lead to a CAT scan that found it in his left lung. There will be no surgery. On July 13th he will start 8 weeks of Chemo and Radiation, 5 treatments a week.

They have come along way in treating cancer. If he completes the treatments his prognosis is good. Do to early detection. Let's all remember he beat colon cancer in '95 and cancer of the lung in '03.

He has met with his team and informed them of his situation. He has a large recruiting class coming in this year. He will have 6 weeks to recover before practice begins. He told the team he hasn't missed a game since starting coaching in '59. And, through both previous battles he never missed a practice.

The family appreciates all the calls and emails of support. He is expecting to see everyone from his usual spot on the bench again this year.

Keep the prayers coming and he will beat this again.

Looking way,way ahead......   per the partial schedule posted by D3hoops, Webster finishes their season At Westmin, Greenville at home, and at Fontbonne.....    Wonder whether these will be HUGE factors in who makes the conference tourney, or if Mac or Eureka will be in the mix....  or if Prin and/or Blackburn get things turned around with big recruiting classes......   D3hoops, always on my mind........

AC  I think you might have generated a bigger spark if you had said Westmin WON'T make the national tournament again!!!!

We just call it the NCAA Tournament here. "National tournament" is an NAIA thing.
