First SLIAC game of the regular season has Wash U going up to MacMurry on Monday... If Mac's new big men meet Coach Creal's expectations, this should be a good game.... Mac has strong guard play returning where Wash U guards are at it's weakest (at least as far as being an unknown quality) in years....  but Gay and Toth could dominate the game....  I don't know.. it's a dark lonely trip to Jacksonville, but it's an early start time   (6:00)......

Tuesday Gville is at Pharma  Pharma got beat bad last night by Logan... and Eureka is at Knox.. hope that they get off to a good start..  Fontbonne travels to Central Mo... it'll get all those new faces a tough baptism, as Central played Austin Peay very close.....   then lots of games that weekend

Denny has been VERY quiet the last week... talking about the Pios, not the Griffs... that means one of two things... either things are going VERY well at Fontbonne, and he's holding out on us...  or Things are going VERY badly, and he's not talking.......
Just hope coach is doing ok...

Hopefan - Cancer is a very consuming situation for the entire family. Dad decided Tuesday to put off the start of the "Proper" chemo, again. This will get him thru a lot of travel to start the season. Start again in two weeks. He's bound and determined to make it thru this season. He still hasn't missed a practice. I feel like I been hit by a bus. I don't know how he's doing it.

I'll post something tonite on the Griffins. On Wash U @ Mac... Coach Edwards was at yesterdays Coaches vs Cancer Brekfast. He and Dad were the 2 D3 reps on a coaches panel that spoke to a large number of HS coaches. He said this has been his toughest year for dealing with pre season injuries. Mac will catch them at the best possible time. If there is one.

Big surprise from Mac is absence of Soph guard Brady Slagle..  one who I listed as one of top retuning guards in conference...  he's not even on roster!!   what happened?  While Mac seems to have a strong incoming class, this is a big hit.....

Austin Peay beats SLU on the road. This doesn't bode well for Griffins at Central Mo. or at AP in mid December. What doesn't kill ya makes you better.

Blackburn crushed by Missouri S&T... 90's to 50's....    Todd West, good player who was booted last year for missing game (ahhh, those girlfriends), is not on roster...

Prin loses by 20 to Maryville... Maryville clearly used their bench, but the score indicates Prin may be more competitive than I thought...
Very interesting is that Todd Zimmerman is back on Prin's roster.. as a grad student... an exciting one on one type guard, his presence changes Prin's outlook and makes them a threat to several SLIAC teams.   HOWEVER.. he was not in the boxscore vs Rolla.  A familiar name in the box however was another Sydness, a frosh, from Massachusetts... his sister, Lindsay, is a first team All conference on Prin's Ladies' Team.

I am not able to find on Principia's website that they offer post-graduate courses. Makes me wonder how Zimmerman could be a grad student there.

In fact, in the International Students section of the admissions webpage it states:

"It should be noted that Principia does not offer Master's or other graduate degrees, nor does its curriculum include remedial academic courses."  :-\

They do offer a "one-year enrichment program for non-degree-seeking students"  ???

Principia Admissions

Zimmerman could always just be a fifth year senior who didn't use up his 4 years of eligibility or received a hardship waiver the NCAA, and the SID decided grad student was the best way to phrase it.

Grad student usually means that the person has completed the requirements for an undergard degree and received the degree. I know there are cases where seniors are taking grad courses and starting on a masters at the same time. But if Prin does not offer masters courses and if Zimmerman is a 5th year senior, which is certainly possible, then it seems he he should be called a senior, not a grad student.

Here is some further confusion... we may need a D3 expert on eligibility...

I see on the internet that Todd Zimmerman Graduated from Hume Fogg Academic in Nashville class of 2005..

june 2006 yr 1
june 2007 yr 2
june 2008 yr 3
june 2009 yr 4
june 2010 yr 5

thus the 2010-11 season is year 6

He played in 2007-08 (see box score prin vs MacMurray on MacMurray site) and in 2008-09 and 2009-10 (see box scores on SLIAC.org)

His Bio on the Prin pages lists him both as a Grad student  AND as a Sophomore ????  and mentions he attended Louisville....  if he went to Louisville in fall 2005, didn't the 5 year clock start ticking then?   I'm confused. what am I missing?

There's no clock for D3. UW-Platteville has a 28-year old forward named Joe Allen. After serving in the army, he was Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year at St. Mary's (TX-D2) in 2004-05 and a 1st team all-conference pick as a soph in 2005-06. Then he transferred to D1 UW-Milwaukee (having to sit out the 2006-07 season) but missed the 2007-08 season with an injury. Now he's at Platteville and I think he's listed as a senior, but if I understand the rule correctly, he'd still have 2 years of eligibility in D3.

Also, Augie had a running back named Kirk Sanders who lettered in 1984, 1985 and 1990!

Looks like the Zimmerman kid has only played three seasons, so he should be OK.

Way to take hopefan through the McDonald's drive thru, Dan!

I will be going up to Jacksonville tonite to see Wash U at Mac...   interesting matchup... Slagle's loss hurts Mac, but Richter and Knepper and the frosh Klimek hurts Wash U even more.... question is if Wash U's overall talent level is that much better that the game still is tipped to Wash U.....   I'm not so sure......   Very Curious who will start for Wash U... Frosh, or last year's JV/varsity mop up guys....  That's not meant in a derogatory way.. it's just a fact of their role last year besides Gay and Toth (assuming Knepper and Richter can't play)
