Did I see Frosh Jarrod Huskie outplay Doug Sexauer  -  yes, or if not, certainly even...

For those who aren't aware, Doug Sexauer of IWU is a d3hoops pre-season all-american.

By "one of the best shooters in the country," Bob means "ranked eighth in the CCIW in three-point FG percentage last season."  ::) ;)

Jordan Zimmer was 54-132 (.409) from 3 as a sophomore.  He is one of the best shooters I saw play last year...and I saw a bunch of good ones.

And by the way, the "one of the best shooters in the country" line about Zimmer comes right from a CCIW head coach near and dear to your heart, Greg.

Good words from TQ regarding the play of Willie Trimble on the CCIW page.....

more random thoughts

typically bizarre SLIAC officiating

there were a number of old head St Louis basketball guys at the game, which I don't see often... I don't know their names, they are always at the big high school games, ie the Merrimac Tourney, I know one coached , I think at Oakville when my son played at Eureka... SOME people like watching the game... I hope we'll see these guys more often...

Wash U assistant, MacMurray head coach Creal, some noted alum players, TQ, many of the Fontbonne players...  several of the Gorlassies...   There were interesting faces in the crowd...

Nick Jones scoreless in the first half, nets 17 in the second...  he looked very good posting low, taking advantage of the defensive mismatch....

Alec Kuhl continues to impress me off the bench, giving huski needed breaks...  Alec is not afraid to take the open shots, and I love guys who aren't afraid to bang... Alec is definitely one of them...With the shots he's getting, he'll normally shoot better than he did last night (3/9)

Drew Morre started to come around last night... no silly turnovers, played tough around the basket...

Solid ... VERY solid bench with Edwards, Kuhl, Meeh and Bradfisch

Huskey is the best looking Frosh pivot man that I've seen in the SLIAC.... period

I guess SLIAC posters are not privileged to post in the CCIW room...  my karma takes a hit... not allowed to talk about an IWU player acting foolishly....

That's a cheap shot if ever there was one -- I mean to take away karma because you commented that an IWU player whined too much, which he did. I'll back you all the way on this one good buddy. Now lets see if the CCIW posters cross over to this board and take karma away from me. I dare them to.

After about a 2 year hiatus, I'm back.  I plan on making it out to several Webster games this year and will post my two cents from time to time.  Thus far, I have been to two of the three Webster games, including last nights game against IWU.

First, I must say that Coach Bunch and Coach Siener continue to impress me with their recruiting.  Their ability to bring in players from coast to coact while also seeking out some local kids is quite impressive.  I think this is most athletic Webster team I have seen play.

Now, to the game.... very flat start by Webster.  But, like all Coach Bunch teams, his kids never quit and played great in the 2nd half.  I just wish they wouldn't have dug themselves in such a deep hole.  Like the rest of the board, I'm extremely impressed with Trimble... you just don't see many DIII players with his skill set, quickness, and athleticism.  Also, I am impressed with Huskey -- nothing too flashy, but he has great footwork and court awareness and a nose for the basket.  I also really like Jones -- very athletic and will present many match-up problems in the SLIAC with his inside-outside game.

Other random thoughts.... too many missed FTs by Webster... what if they knocked some of them down?  Different outcome?  Through two games, it seems like Webster is missing a pure shooter from the outside.... something almost all past Webster teams possessed.  Haven't seen them enough, so I could be wrong.

It's hard for me to imagine that Webster is not the frontrunner to win the conference this year.... again, I haven't seen other teams so I could be wrong.  While no one should ever be satisfied with a loss (and I know Coach Bunch isn't), I was very pleased to see Webster give the #4 ranked team a battle.  I definitely think Webster is closing that talent gap between themselves and traditional powers like IWU... not quite there but certainly getting closer.

Congrats to Coach Bunch and his team for their effort last nite. Maybe this is the squad that gives him that much deserved post season trip.

good to hear from Bunch time... he was one of those noted alum players seen in the stands that I mentioned.
I talked to Coach Bunch prior to the game... i mentioned how impressed I was with Jarrod Huskey, and his moves around the basket, how he seemed to be a player who had received excellent coaching in HS... lo and behold, Coach tells me that his new assistant was Jarrod's High School Coach....  I don't have access to his name, but it appears from this that Webster got a very solid teacher of the game as an addition to the coaching staff.....

And another SLIAC +....  good kids like Jarrod McCoy...  talkative, excited about basketball.... I hope his knee is healthy and he and Willie Trimble can entertain me by putting on incredible moves to the hoop against each other......

I think every last bit of karma I have ever lost has been from posting in the CCIW room, though in my case, it was probably for good reason.  [insert smiley face here].

I have some karma for you both.

I got a little chuckle out of TQ's comments about our beloved SLIAC ref's. Then I went and checked to see who was on the game. OMG. How can you put those three on that kind of game. But, the Head of Sliac officials was at the game. TQ now you know what we go thru night after night.

He did not rank among the top eighty three-point shooters in D3, Bob, which is what he would've needed to do to appear in the NCAA's statistical lists. If you're not even listed on the NCAA's website, either as a freshman or a sophomore, how can you be "one of the best shooters in the country"?

Bosko, no doubt ... doing exactly what every good coach does, which is talk up an opposing player. Don't get me wrong, Zimmer's a very good shooter -- but the numbers don't bear out his being "one of the best shooters in the country."

You know me and how I feel about you two guys and what you contribute to this room, hopefan and y_jack. As far as I'm concerned, we don't see enough of you in the CCIW room. I love to read your perspectives on CCIW teams when they play SLIAC teams. The more informed, objective outside voices we hear regarding our teams, the better.

Don't let the anonymous karma snipers get you down.

YIKES...   what a conference opener!!!!  Prin, who I thought might go winless this year until I found out that Todd Zimmerman had another year of eligibility, wins at Eureka in a barn burner,
90-87..... and even more incredible... the box score is already posted for my morning after analysis!!!!   MacMurray, Fontbonne take note!!!... big openers tonite, it would be nice to be able to review a box score tomorrow morning!!!!

But to the point... what a game it must have been... The D3 hoops scoreboard had been posting sporatic scores of the game through the evening (Eureka SID Bryan Moore, if you were responsible, thanks VERY much, and please train your fellow SLIAC SIDs that it can be done) -I'd also note there is a lengthy writeup on the game on Eureka's Bball site...    So I knew that Eureka appeared to have the upper hand in the first half anf Prin had cut into the lead in the 2nd.   there was no doubt in my mind with the score moving as it was that todd Zimmerman had officially returned for Prin... they simply could not have mustered that kind of scoring punch without him... he finishes with 38 points... 6 of 9 from 3's, 14 of 16 from the line in an absolutely incredible performance ... and has only 2 turnovers!!!... he immediately goes to the head of the class in my list of very good SLIAC small guards...  Prin appears to have played a great game... only 11 turnovers, 9 steals, they out rebound Eureka, they shoot  47% from the field, 40% from 3's , 70% from the line.. nothing negative anywhere

And how can Eureka feel about losing... Jordan Kindred goes for 32, Andy Leppard chips in with 14... center Mark Lessen gets 18, going 9 for 10 from the field... it sounds like just what they needed to get a win... but there are some negative tells... Kindred has 8 turnovers... Center Lessen has only2 rebounds... and they get NOTHING from the bench....only 5 points and 34 minutes from the bench.. It's clear depth is a problem for Eureka.

Eureka  has to be very disappointed in their winless start... despite losing 2 big scorers, they had a solid nucleus returning with Kindred, Leppard, Lessen and Black... a little support from the rest of the team should be leading to wins, but it's not happening.....  hard ot understand

Big night of SLIAC hoops tonight... I never would have predicted Prin's win over Eureka last night, especially at Eureka....   let's see how tonite looks.....

Blackburn at Greenville.....  BC is looking for their first win, and can not have been playing very well... Greenville has been off for awhile, but I was very impressed with their games vs Hendrix and Rhodes... this one shouldn't be close... Greenville

Webster at MacMurray....  Webster coming off super second half vs IWU, should be feeling confident... Mac 0-2, but losses vs Wash U and SIUE... Mac can match Webster's depth, but PG Trimble and strong board game give Webster the advantage...

Westminster at Fontbonne....  Westmin is still trying to find the right combo of players and miss Kovach big time....  Fontbonne has looked awful without Jarred McCoy, but he expects to play tonight....  but unless the intensity and the basketball smarts kick in for the Griffs, I don't see how they can come out ahead in this one.....  Vislay will be tough to stop

Let's hope each of the games meets the standard of excitement reached by Eureka and Prin last night

Back from Mac....  Husky goes down with ankle injury in first minute, Mac's Clint Lee defends Willie Trimble.... Webster offense goes AWOL for about 5 minutes in 2nd half.... valiant comeback effort, but airballs galore in last minute kills Webster.....another premier candidate for frosh of the year is Mac's Dylan Burton.....final 78-74 Mac.....
