I've been very busy on another page today... but not alot to talk about regarding Webster until we find out the extent of the Nick Jones injury...   as I said, just a darned shame for everyone if he's not able to play the rest of the way... he looked VERY uncomfortable with it during the 2nd half of the game (when he was not playing)...  it was clearly painful to him....

if he's out, the tourney is wide open.. he just does so much, and the bench is already so short...
Cody Bradfisch is going to have to go from the doghouse to being a 15-20 minute person, and Hollis Edwards will have to play significant minutes so Willie Trimble can move to the 2 when Meeh or Restoff need to come out.

Here's another hot one... I saw at least 3 recruits at the Webster game, two whom I was able to look up on the internet and confirm they are 'better than average numbers' kids from the area....  obviously way early, but Webster is certainly working......

Really like Bradfisch's game. He's not the answer for the problem. With Restoff's size can he go inside and give WU's deffense and rebounding some help?

My horse in the race is a little gimpy right now.

As of now. FU has two Juco players confirmed. Dad's condition is hampering his recruiting. Little brother always a big help out in the rural schools. Look for probably one more Juco at least.

Jett and Rolwing's healthy return will sure help.

Bunchtime - We gave it our best shot. Hard to win 6 on 5. Coach Creal was there, nice of him to mention same.

By the way the boxscore on SLIAC.org has errors. They fouled Woods out with only 12 mins playing time.

FU PG threw 2 passes into the stands the final minute.

Again, It wasn't lack of effort. Tolson was a handfull for FU's best 2 defenders. Fleming did a good job on Visalay. WC's PG who's name evades me played well. Give WC credit they were down and ground it out. Hit ft's when needed.

That's two against WC were we had our chance.

Just got off the phone with Dad. You know you still have the passion when you can't sleep after a loss. Chemo tomorrow. 80 days of treatments to go.

Having seen WC , Mac and GC play.... It's a coin toss to me. WU was a step ahead with Jones.

Classy moment: after game former WC players, Fans and a couple of parents, came down and wished Dad well. That's why I say sometimes it's more then just basketball.

yes something does look wrong with the box score... showing Fontbonne with 11 fouls, Westmin with 22 foul shots....  every single foul committed a 2 shot foul????   Doubtful....   Woods has got to learn to play without fouling, no matter the perceived bias in calls....  and the coaching staff is totally mixing around the minutes, different people playing last night than on Saturday... nothing wrong with that in Fontbonne's situation.

Westmin's decline is evident, and hard to understand...  haven't seen it before...  I'm actually inclined to point my finger at a lack of depth and starters beginning to run out of energy and enthusiasm... only Henderson appears to be helping off the bench...  Maybe the wily Coach Mitchell is just holding a little something back until the tourney? And Vislay keeps on shooting... and missing  (3 for 27 from 3's in the last 5 conference games)  with his hops, why in the world is he not playing around the basket or slashing to it?  no sense...

How were there only 8 assists in a 130 pt game?

It was an exciting finish. FU up 1 and Dioum is gets fouled and with :47 is finally in the bonus. Makes both. Up 3. FU gets rebound from missed shot. Throws ball away trying to make full court pass to open Thomas. WC scores on a back door to Visaly. Next posession FU throws a pass in to the stands. WC gets a 3 from Tolson to go up 2. Dioum beats his man from top of the key with :12 goes strong to the hole. No call as both players hit the floor. FU fouls James who makes one of two to go up 3. FU gets a tough contested 3 att at buzzer from Dioum that draws back iron.

Good crowd for a cold Monday Nite. Not many students, but was lively. Good game to be a WC spectator.

Wow.. great description.... Fontbonne had the game - up 3 with the ball off the rebound from the missed shot, less than 40 seconds, then the walls cave in...  would have been the upset of the year, the game to talk about.....

Hopefan- Great game as a spectator with no vested interest. Visalay had a size advantage over Fleming and we know he has hops. But, played like a 5'10 perimeter player. Great gMe by the WC guard combo.

I just read in the Post that Lee Winfield died. He had cancer and was 64 years old.

I would not call Coach Winfield a friend, but I would call him an aquintence. I go way back to the mid 60's when he played for some powerhouse teams at Sumner and then went on to a great career at what was then  St. louis Baptist Jr College.

I didn't even know he had cancer.

Here is a quote from his son Julian who played at SLU and Mizzou. "He didn't want us to say anything about his cancer. He didn't want people to worry about him. He always put others first, his players, his teammates and his collegues. Everything was about everyone else."

Had heard of Coach Winfield's battle. Only saw him play once when Dad was at Welston HS. Met him several times much later, during his days at FP CC. Is a big loss and have not heard in mentioned on the Talk Sports Station.

Cancer is a terrible disease. It's a private decision on how one approaches their battle.

You have those that try to keep it private like Coach Winfield and Coach Bartow. Then you have those that use the oppurtunity to use their position as a platform ie: Coach Valvano and Coach Stewart.

I know Dad's was a calling from the Lord 16 years ago. And, he's done his best to be a good soldier and show people it doesn't have to be the end, just a trial we live and fight thru.

I'll be the Second to comment on your post Red, because I feel I can address it in a level headed way...

Some people would choose to address their illness as Coach Winfield has, quiet, secretive, so as not to worry loved ones and others

Some People would choose to address their illness as Coach McKinney has, bold, open to the public, to show others that it is a fight that CAN be won.

There is no right way or wrong way, only the way that works for that person.

You and I and anybody else that are not directly involved with these two individuals and their everyday physical and mental wellness  are in no position to make judgement.
