Wow! I log on expecting to read hopefan's commentary on last night's Webster-Spalding game and see nothing. Paragraph two of the article on the Webster website pinpoints the exact play that took the air out of Spalding's second-half comeback.

hopefan even said to me when it happened that it was a game changing play and he turned out to be right.

random thoughts on the Webster-Spalding game....

Webster certainly bounced back well from the shocking loss to Blackburn.. With Nick Jones back, the zone just seemed to move so much better.... Spalding just couldn't get started in the first half.. they had only 4 points after 12 minutes....    at half, Mcafee had 2 at half...
Spalding wasn't getting good shots...  offensively, Moore and Huskey took advantage of poor defensive technique (give these guys a ball fake and up they go) to get some easy baskets...  Jones clearly was not looking to shoot, and Willie had only 1 hoop...

2nd half, big difference.. DeWhon MaAfee..........makes 7 straight jump shots off some super smooth moves...  after that, Willie Trimble takes over, controlling the ball, layups, free throws.. it was their game....
Turning point of game was unfortunate for McAfee... Spalding had cut it to 52-50 with 3:30 left, and Webster had a hoop and a FT to get to 55-50...  McAfee had the ball in the corner, faked willie Trimble out silly, drove baseline and went up for a dunk... but rammed it off the back of the rim...Webster comes down and scores, rather than 3 point, it's 7 and it's over...

in the last two games, I've seen shooting exhibitions by Chris Williams and Dewhon Mcafee that were just plain as good as it gets....  haven't seen anything close to that from the Tigers or the Billikins...  and people wonder why I love D3hoops.... ;D ;D ;D

think I'll pass up all that TV today and go up to Greenville-Mac... see you there!!!

just back from columbia and the tigers. would love to read some details on today's games. does prin have a shot at the trn? i know its  a long shot, butwouldn't that be something. take those two last second shot losses to FC, and they would be sitting pretty. that would also make fc 3-19, ouch!!!!!!

Mac beats Greenville 91-77  really dominates most of the game.. closest Gville got was down 9 at 4 minutes...  Mac dominated inside with Pettyjohn Robertson and Burton getting 32 in the first half... Gville just couldn't stop them.... add to that a typical CJ McClellan assortment of 3's drives and assists , and free throws, and Greenville couldn't catch them.... Greenville WOEFUL perimeter shooting continues...don't understand why that is the game they play...  they go 6 for 25.... Hillier and Agomo both seem tired compared to the excitement they generated earlier in the season... only Seaton seems to use the quickness I expect from them...

McClellan finishes with 22.... and also broke the Mac career record for assists in this game.... Burton 18, Robertson 16, Pettyjohn 17.... best I've seen Robertson look all season- very tough....

I think Mac Westmin 2-3 game will be a classic....

FU loses a 62 - 60 battle royal to a tough Spalding team.

The first team in the bonus was FU with :29 and SC had to be fouled twice in the last 10 seconds to get them to the line. "No blood no Foul". Dioum went thru 2 complete uniforms for a bit of blood. Gashes scratched in both forearms. Someone on SC needs a pedicure bad. Both ways they just did not blow the whistle. There was a flagrant intentional on SC. A "T" on FU and a bench warning. A good old fashion brawl.

Spaulding only scores 2 pts in the final 3 mins. FU made one last run from down 9. Had the ball down 62-60 with 19 seconds. Out of a time, FU runs a set that gets the ball to Woods on the block spin NBA go shoot the free throws foul :09. FU is woefull 8-17 from the line. Woods the better of a poor bunch. For the tie. Rims out first free throw. TO. Miss and tip doesn't work. Foul on FU. SC ball out of bounds with :05. FU had a 5 count but the ball got to MacAfee. Foul. Wrong guy. FU takes time out. MacAfee at the line 2 free throws ice it, one in one. Free throw missed. Fleming gets rebound takes it thru traffic and gets a wide open feet set 20 ft that went solid back iron. Ball game. Exciting to watch.

FU played a pinch zone doubling MacAfee on every high pick. He was held to 14 on 6-21 and 0-8 from 3's in (37 mins). Brasher had solid 13 and 7 in (38 mins). Bacon was 3-12 and1-7 for 9 points (32 mins). Cutsinger had 10 on 4-7 in (36 mins). The loss was not the defensive effort.

Eric Hamilton double – double 11 and 11. Big offensive put backs played 39 mins banging with Brasher. Woods was limited 12 mins due to a cyst on the knee 2-3 and 4 pts. Dioum survived to score 12 and 7 boards. Garner help spur the final come back went 4-4 (2-2) 12 pts in 14 mins. And no one could hit a free throw. FU played 10 guys 10 minutes or more. All gave the effort. FU's PG play has been a problem all year and combo tonite had troubles getting the ball to the right players. But played good defense.

That's the story

Something that I doubt has happened often, if at all... Westmin, in their 109-64 win at BC, which is pretty impressive after BC beat Webster, played 14 men... Everyone of them scored, and everyone of them had a rebound...

AND  they held Obie Farmer to 2!!!!     (no offense intended Obie, and your efforts are appreciated)

Another amazing coincidence... Chris Williams and DeWhon McAfee both light up Webster earlier this week,  but yesterday McAfee goes 6-21, 0-8 from 3's, Williams goes 4-15, 0-6.
Must have been tired arms after the Webster games! ;D ;D ;D

I wrote that I though Greenville is running out of steam, and Red mentioned that Prin is still in the race (what does that say about the state of SLIAC hoops?)... but watch out... it's in these situations where #1 team lets down, #4 team has nothing to lose, and bang, upset city.....   It's 100% up to Coach Bunch and staff to prevent that from happening.....

is Prin really still in the race... well pretty doubtful.. as their remaining schedule is hosting Mac, going to Spalding, and hosting Westmin....  Greenville is 2 games up in the loss column, and plays at Eureka, hosts Fontbonne, plays at Webster, and hosts Spalding....  while I can see Greenville losing 2 or 3, I can't see Prin winning 2 or 3..... nor can I see Fontbonne winning 3 of 3 to finish at 9 losses and in a possible tie....  It's not a done deal, but Greenville is sitting pretty.....

If Obie Farmer and Blackburn can beat Webster on the road. Any thing is possible this year. Obie is riding the wave of one performance. But, back to usual numbers yesterday. He'll have that one game to remember, though.

Had fun chatting with SC's head coach and my vote for Coach of the Year for half of the womens game. Shared history of both schools and just had an enjoyable visit.

Hopefan quit talking about #4 upsets. Your leaning on my horse. I'm putting blinkers on, for rest of the race. >:( I no past performance doesn't show well for my horse, but I got rail bird hunch on #1.

But there are always a couple of 5's in the deck when you have to hit 16!!! ;D ;D ;D
