I'll get you a recap from the game in Macomb,IL tonight.

Fontbonne loses to Rose-Hulman 71-42. hopefan will have to make the comparison between the Fontbonne he saw tonight and the Fontbonne he saw last Saturday. Credit Rose-Hulman with being a good defensive team, but Fontbonne had no answer for that. I'm sure they will get better, but can they improve enough to be in the hunt for a conference tournament spot based on what we are learning about some of the other conference teams in the early going?

Lots of games on Saturday and Sunday to talk about...

To respond to Magic...The games were Saturday and Sunday...Saw all four games.  Rust, well put it this way...they seemed to have two goals..let's only go one on one, and try to take the most difficult shot we can find, and 2) lets start running to the offensive end before we get a defensive rebound...  Maryville just killed them on the boards, and Rust's dreams of being THE Bumblin B this year already seem to be snuffed out.  Rust C's All American man, Markeith Wilson was left begging for the ball on the perimeter as teammates drove to the basket often out of control... didn't see a penetrate and dish either game.....Markeith is (I regret to say) not of All American quality.. he is, simply put, a one dimensional player.. SHOOT..  as for Rust C, a great kid, who has been presented with a new challenge professionally.. he is the Head Coach of the Rust College Women's Team, as well as the Asst Coach of the Men....  he is really an affable guy who bleeds Rust College Blue.....

Guys. sorry, just too tired to keep going... maybe tomorrow.. :-\
Well you was right about the one on one basketball but we fix that problem today with the win against Hendrix got back to running our offensive and Markeith was back to his old self with 25 points..I still think he is All American quality season not over yet just wait an see

Rose Hulman totally shuts down Fontbonne offense... no flow at all...  Dan Lisch has to be an alternate component to the scoring, he surely can't be the go to guy... need scoring from Hamilton, Demisse, Dioum, then Lisch has room to drive....

last game played:
Webster lose to Maryville
Fontbonne lose to Rose Hulman
Westmin lose to Coe
Blackburn lose to Robert Morris springfield
Greenville lose to Western Illinois
Eureka lose to Rockford, will lose to Eastern Illinois tonite
Spalding lose to Coastal Carolina
Prin lose to William Wood

only Mac goes into Thanksgiving with a win...over Manchester

Don't let this get you down guys... the conference games are going to be SO unpredictable... No one will run away with it

WIU over Greenville 82-49.  Final score less than representative of most of the game. With 10 mins to go it was 62-42, afterward which GC scored the first 4 points, then they just ran out of steam, which happens when you are 4-6" and 20-30lbs smaller at every position. (I remember this feeling from playing Wright State in 00).   Game of the night has to go to Alex Mumphard who was 4-5 from 3 and ended the game wiht 19pts, littlest guy on the floor was the most fearless against a bigger team for sure.  Markeith Brown has a nice knack for finding the basket but simply had trouble getting anything off inside over the larger defenders.  KJ Hilliard did a nice job of pushing the tempo and controlling the ball, had moments of very nice penetration in the lane but same story, couldn't get a decent shot off over larger defenders, all 3 of his points came from the FT lane after penetration.   I thought Dondrale Campbell did a nice job of challenging Westerns big men and finding a way to get a contested shot on the rim, finished with well earned points.   The kid that I thought could really do somethign if he developed into an offensive threat was Joe Redmond, took good care of the ball and is lightning quick, only saw 5-6 mins but did some nice things on the defensive end.  Last observation, after seeing them last season I expected to see Jonas Mcbride with some more playing time, but he saw little action and was wearing a brace that was heavily taped up over his nose (broken?).  Most shots were altered and/or rushed trying to get them off over taller defenders than they are used to playing against.   Alll in all I thought it was a decent outing for GC , especially if you want to look at how close WIU played Michigan last week, same Michigan team that knocked off #8 Memphis Monday and took Duke to the wire last night.

Thanks GC... Thus far, Greenville has to be considered the favorable surprise of the season..  Before games, I was very close to putting them out of the mix along with Prin....  and the Pharma loss didn't seem positive either... But they obviously belong IN THE MIX..... I liked the little I saw of Mumphard last year... will enjoy watching him vs Lee of Mac, BC's combo..

Markeith also scored plenty of points in the games against Maryville (23) and Bluffton (32 in 3 OTs). What mystified me about him is that he went the entire triple overtime game against Bluffton without being whistled for a single foul in 50 minute on the court (had 3 fouls in the game against Maryville). He seemed to me to be a pretty passive defender. Perhaps the coach doesn't want him getting into foul trouble to keep his scoring on the court. For the two games he was 17-45 from the field (8-23 on 3s) and 13-14 from the free throw line. Message to opponents, let him take his shots, but don't foul him. These are not All-American or even All-Region stats -- except maybe for the scoring average.

just because he don't foul alot don't mean he's not play D...but as for him getting foul must mean he goes to the rim and he is hard 2 defend at 6'4 dont judge for only 2 games have alot more games to go

Ugly day for the SLIAC yesterday.....

Westmin down to Edgewood   82-52    Kurt Kovach has a good shooting night with 16 points and Verdis Lee has another good game off the bench.... but the rest....

Webster loses to Luther  68-49   Webster crushed on the boards... Stefon Whittingham can't do it alone

Prin down to Rhodes  43-77   Ironman five play most of game... and they get Wash U today....  these guys deserve praise for showing up and playing as hard as the can.....

Spalding loses in OT to Victory (formerly Crichton)

Conference games start Tuesday!!!!!  The field gets even, the non conference results are out the window, and every game is critical....

Prin loses to Wash U    83 - 56

Now then, Wash U Coach Mark Edwards plays 15 players, only one individual gets as much as 16 minutes, no one else gets more than 14 minutes....   EVERYONE gets at least 11 minutes

NO ONE plays 35 minutes to get 40 points, much less 80 points

Do you see the difference, GRINNELL?????

Incidentally, Prin's Kenny Sydness gets 23 points....  could he lead Prin to a win in the SLIAC????

Not exactly sure what you're saying here. I think you like the style of play of the system because it's fun to watch, but don't like the fact that Grinnell's coach allowed his player so many minutes to break a scoring record when they had such a huge lead, right?

hopefan

As I said in the MWC room, I enjoyed their St Louis visit When they used the system to beat a very good Fontbonne team... but to play an individual to get records, against a team that dressed 7 players, is a distinct lack of professionalism and sportsmanship on the coach's part....

Agreed. Also good that you made that post in the MWC room where they can know how that kind of coaching appears to people who place a high value on sportsmanship.

Yeah, because that wasn't the System. Arseneault deliberately departed from the System in order to set that record by leaving the kid in the game for the final ten minutes and directing everyone to give him the ball.

Interesting score last night Central 59 Eureka 56... Fontbonne beat Central by 2 at Fontbonne, Eureka loses close at Central.....  one of the first comparative scores available shows very even....

Westminster beats Milwaukee Engineering 54-46....  Westmin has 24 Turnovers... but win by having a good shooting night and winning the battle of the boards....

Webster gets clobbered by Nebraska Wesleyan.... they shoot poorly and get beat badly on the boards.. only bright spot is Dietrich Sooter begins to find his game off the bench with 19 points and frosh Ahmad Smith has two decent performances this weekend as a sub.....Starters combine for only 24 points...  Still though, this team will be competitive in conference....
